The consumer goods sector is a category of stocks and companies that relate to items purchased by individuals rather than by manufacturers and industries. This sector includes companies involved with food production, packaged goods, clothing, beverages, automobiles and electronics. Performance in the consumer goods sector depends heavily on consumer behavior. When the economy grows the sector will see an increased demand for higher-end products. When the economy shrinks there is an increased demand for value products. While some product types, such as food, are necessary, others, such as automobiles, are considered luxury items.

You will share some of the essential strategic and administrative steps for this important function of Human Resources and will include metrics for which to evaluate the recruitment and selection approach that will be implemented. The situation: Suppose that you are the new HR Director at HSS (the case study presented in our Course Resources under modules) and you have already made a presentation to the CEO and the Board of Directors on the need for HR planning and and enhanced strategic role that HR must play in the organization. After that presentation, and having read the research on managing human resources strategically that you have presented (assignment 2 literature review), the CEO confides that she has been thinking about how the senior staff in the organization are recruited and selected. Recruiting & Staffing

...Recruitment and Staffing Proposal Kofi Djanphie HRMN 400 Professor Smoot 9/27/15 Cover Memo TO: CEO FROM: Kofi Djanphie DATE: September 27, 2015 SUBJECT: Recruitment and Staffing The recruitment and selection process contributes significantly to the attainment of adequate personnel. In order to sustain optimal functionality within a business or to incite improvements in recommended areas, a company must be staffed with the appropriate people. “Recruitment and selection methods are particular means to develop the practices of each stage in the recruitment life-cycle and process, from sourcing candidates to the hiring decision” (Articles and News on Recruitment Methods, n.d., para. 3). Searching for and acquiring senior staff does not differentiate from the procedure that is involved with non-management candidates. They both include choosing from an array of recruitment and selection styles. Three recruitment approaches have been designated to provide HSS with the greatest opportunity to encounter the most competent individuals. Also, three selection methods were chosen to assist with the difficulties that can arise during the hiring process such as making an effective decision. Business strategy requires a cost/benefit and metrics analysis to determine areas of success and failure. An organization needs to know what worked and what did not. This ensures that ineffective practices are excluded from future proceedings that coerce the squandering of limited resources...

Bernie Madoff

...THE RISE AND FALL OF BERNIE MADOFF Bernadette Smith Business Law Professor Kopf 8/22/2010 Bernard Lawrence "Bernie" Madoff , born April 29, 1938 is an incarcerated former American stock broker, investment adviser, non-executive chairman of the NASDAQ stock market, and the admitted operator of what has been described as the largest Ponzi scheme in history. In March 2009, Madoff pleaded guilty to 11 federal crimes and admitted to turning his wealth management business into a massive Ponzi scheme that defrauded thousands of investors of billions of dollars. Madoff said he began the Ponzi scheme in the early 1990s. However, federal investigators believe the fraud began as early as the 1980s, and that the investment operation may never have been legitimate. The amount missing from client accounts, including fabricated gains, was almost $65 billion. The court-appointed trustee estimated actual losses to investors of $18 billion. On June 29, 2009, he was sentenced to 150 years in prison, the maximum allowed. Madoff founded the Wall Street firm Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC in 1960, and was its chairman until his arrest on December 11, 2008. The firm was one of the top market maker businesses on Wall Street, which bypassed "specialist" firms by directly executing orders over the counter from retail brokers. On December 10, 2008, Madoff's sons told authorities that their father had just confessed to them that the asset management arm of his firm was a massive...
