Dr. Crises violated 3 ethical standards.
1. 2.06 Personal Problems and Conflicts (section b)
Dr. Crises had become increasingly depressed and had feeling of inadequacy in both his work and personal life. When he determined that his client had romantic feelings for him, and he for her, he should have terminated the professional relationship, followed appropriate procedures for referring his client to another provider. He should have then sought professional guidance and assistance for his feelings of depression and inadequacy.
2. 3.08 Exploitative Relationship
Even though the intimate relationship appeared to begin after the professional relationship ended, there was still the potential for an exploited relationship. The personal romantic …show more content…
10.8 Sexual Intimacies with Former Therapy Clients/Patients
They did end the professional relationship after the discovery of romantic feelings, however, they did not wait the required two years to begin their sexual/romantic relationship. In addition, I do not feel that Dr. Crises would be able to supply compelling evidence against exploitation. Several examples of this include no mention of a referral to another therapist for the client to continue her treatment, the relationship is implied to have begun immediately after termination of the professional relationship and the professional relationship ended in order to begin a sexual relationship.
I did contemplate in addition to this violations adding in 3.04 Avoiding Harm and 3.05 Multiple Relationships. I decided against including them because I felt that I could not adequately defend the decision to include them. There is information that could be construed as harmful to the patient, including the lack of further treatment for whatever illness brought her to Dr. Crises to begin with. However, this is not specifically addressed in this article. In addition, one could argue that there wasn’t lasting harm to the patient, both the patient and Dr. Crises advise they are satisfied with their marriage. I also decided against the multiple relationship violation. It appears that after the realization of romantic feelings, Dr. Crises ended the professional relationship in compliance with

Ethical Awareness Inventory

...corporate, and educational success relies largely on a person’s ability to make valuable and ethical professional decisions. The differences in ethical and moral characteristics can have positive or disastrous effects on careers and personal lives. In this paper the importance of understanding personal ethical perspective and the relationship between personal and professional ethics in psychology will be discussed. According to Mulcahy (2011), the Ethics Awareness Inventory Core is a philosophical study of moral values based on assumptions of what is determined to be right and wrong. The acronym for Core means Character, Obligation, Results, and Equity. These words define the meaning as a set of principles of beliefs for the background of the concept that includes morals, values principals, and rules that include standards of conduct and obligations for individuals and organizations. The ethical awareness inventory helps in evaluate the ethical style of an individual. This program asks a series of questions and evaluates the answers. Based on the answers an individual learns what his or her ethical perspective is. Many people view ethics from different perspectives and because of these differences is natural for people to have ethical conflicts with others. For example, an individual who has a different view about religion and politics may see ethical issues differently from another person who has a different perspective of religion and politics. In essence, ethics, like values...

...Women home-based business owners: insights from comparative analyses Karyn Loscocco and Andrea Smith-Hunter Introduction Women are becoming entrepreneurs at a more than proportionate rate compared to men (Renzulli et al., 2000). There has been a corresponding interest in studying who these women are, what motivates them to become owners, and what affects their economic success (Clark and James, 1992; Loscocco et al., 1991; Moore and Buttner, 1997; Smith-Hunter, 2000; (Renzulli et al., 2000; Weiling et al., 2001). The woman home-based business owner (HBB), however, remains understudied. There has been more research on women working from home during the past decade (Heck et al., 1992; Waldrop, 1994; Jurik, 1998; Prestniz, 1989), but the bulk of the work in this area has been on homebased employment (Powers, 1995; Dannhauser, 1999; Edwards and Field-Hendrey, 1996; Ahrentzen, 1990; Bailyn, 1989), rather than HBB ownership. Though the work in these areas is a much-needed complement to studies of men small business owners, to our knowledge no study has yet to compare the woman home-based owner to her obvious counterpart, the woman who locates her business outside of the home. We seek to answer a number of questions about women who own and operate businesses from their home by comparing them to women owners whose businesses are run elsewhere. We are motivated by recent statistics showing that the HBB sector in the US is substantial in size and sales. In 1997, HBB represented 52...

Providian

...Harvard Business School 9-398-008 Rev. June 7, 1999 Providian Trust: Tradition and Technology (A) A New CEO Within two weeks of accepting the position of CEO of Providian Trust Company, Stephen Walsh, a lawyer by training, faced an unusual corporate conflict and he would have to play the role of judge. There was an extraordinary difference of opinion between Providian Trust’s internal auditor, Peter Storey, and the leaders of a major information technology (IT) project in the trust division. “Peter’s extremely vocal point ran to the issue of documentation, that it was incomplete and should be brought up to speed,” explained Walsh. The conflict reached a climax during an Audit Committee meeting on May 13, 1995, when members of the committee, who were all on the Providian Trust board of directors, expressed to Walsh that they had lost confidence in the internal auditor and recommended that the external auditor, Steinman & Smith, do an analysis of the project documentation prior to implementation. The purpose of the project was to convert the trust division’s outdated information system into a more efficient system using Access Plus, new trust and custody management software made by Select One. The project had been initiated in 1993 under a former CEO, who had been dismissed by the board, and had continued under an interim CEO. By the time Walsh arrived on the scene, over two-thirds of the $18 million budget had been invested in the implementation of the IT...

...ATTITUDES AND SOCIAL COGNITION Thinking Too Much: Introspection Can Reduce the Quality of Preferences and Decisions Timothy D. Wilson University of Virginia Jonathan W Schooler University of Pittsburgh In Study 1, college students' preferences for different brands of strawberry jams were compared with experts' ratings of the jams. Students who analyzed why they felt the way they did agreed less with the experts than students who did not. In Study 2, college students' preferences for college courses were compared with expert opinion. Some students were asked to analyze reasons; others were asked to evaluate all attributes of all courses. Both kinds of introspection caused people to make choices that, compared with control subjects', corresponded less with expert opinion. Analyzing reasons can focus people's attention on nonoptimal criteria, causing them to base their subsequent choices on these criteria. Evaluating multiple attributes can moderate people's judgments, causing them to discriminate less between the different alternatives. When faced with a difficult decision, people sometimes spend a good deal of time thinking about the advantages and disadvantages of each alternative. At one point or another, most of us have even reached for a sheet of paper and made a list of pluses and minuses, hoping that the best course of action would become clear. Reflection of this kind is generally thought to be beneficial, organizing what might otherwise be a confusing jumble...

The reason for this is that the Shogun wanted to ensure that those with authority and power were able to generate a stable source of income from their land, while leaving the peasants with little to survive on. The political stability of the Tokugawa period was under threat due to the colonial expansions of countries such as Portugal and Spain into Asia, via catholic missionaries (1).
