The game of basketball has been around since December 21st, 1891 where it was founded by Dr. James Naismith in Springfield, MA. Dr. Naismith, originally from Canada, had his roots in ministry before choosing to follow his true passion of physical education and it was through this that he found himself enrolled at the International Young Men’s Christian Association Training School. The game originated as a way to handle a group of hostile youth during the physical education hour at the YMCA. Dr. Naismith’s original attempts were to reformat outdoor sports and activities and bring them indoors, but soon realized that these activities were meant to be outdoors for a reason. There are both advantages and disadvantages to both scenarios. The entire college experience is a learning trip and it is oftentimes a young adults first step towards independence. Living on campus is an adjustment and is a huge eye-opener to the real world. The college dorm life is considered to be part of the "full college experience," but the costs of living in a residence hall can persuade students to remain home while they are in college in order to avoid housing fees. The biggest advantage of living on campus is that it gives you a chance to gain independence. Some students know they want to move out of the house but aren't quite sure they're ready to have their own apartments. Living on campus can provide an in-between step (Lyons 1). Students will still be living on their own and responsible for taking care of their living space, it just wont be as overwhelming as paying rent and everything else that comes with owning an apartment. We get the right to drive a car at the age of 15 with someone 21 years of age. While at 16 we can get a driver’s license legally, and drive without supervision of an adult. The law of the legal drinking age was changed on Dec. 22, 1978 (Markoff, 2012). People believed that changing the law would stop 18- 20 year old from drinking, and reduce highway crashes. In my opinion the law don’t stop the 18 year olds from drinking, and the highway crashes haven’t stopped. The drinking has went underground, or behind closed doors. This makes it more dangerous for college students because they can’t have any drinks out in the open at a bar, or at family event like New Year ’s Eve.
