A motion picture adjusted from the realistic novel accomplished the higher consideration than the first book. The motion picture was a free adaption of the realistic novel. The motion picture utilized a wide range of components to make it more alluring then the novel. The fundamental explanation behind the prevalence of the motion picture or the novel is that novel is composed for various group of onlookers than the film is made for, which implies that motion picture must be appealing to the general population. The subject of the motion picture and novel was same as both clarified the narrative of Leonidas and the Battle of Thermopylae.

The motion picture coordinated by Zach Snyder is not truly precise, but rather delineates the dependability, fearlessness, and quality against Persians by legends in antiquated Greek in 480 B.C. The primary topic of the motion picture depends on the History, Action, Fantasy, and Adventure. The film has numerous scenes erased or added then the first novel to make appealing to the crowd. The significant change saw in the film was in the presentation of the primary character, King Leonidas. The fundamental center of the motion picture was on the fight then the tale of penance and adoration for the decency of the general public.

The realistic novel 300 by Frank Miller gives the complete history of the Battle of Thermopylae and Leonidas. In the novel, Miller depicts Leonidas as the superhero though in motion picture Spartans were considered as superhero at first. In novel, King Leonidas is intense lord, who considers his officers as "youngsters" and is fast in offering discipline to the individuals who reprieve the order. The ruler in the motion picture is additionally been depicted as hard lord yet he is more shown as pioneer of society and considered his officers as his companions than as a subject. Movies Compaired to History

...------------------------------------------------- HUM 111 The movie 300 was based off of a graphic novel, but both are just cultural and artistic expressions of a historical event. Though both are exaggerations of what actually happened there are many parts that are based on actual events. Over the course of this paper a handful of aspects of both 300 and The Battle of Thermopylae will be compared. There are many stories and retellings of the Battle of Thermopylae of varying facts, the main focus will be of key components that show up in both items. The largest aspect you see in both the movie 300 and the Battle of Thermopylae is the number of Spartan hoplites. The number of Spartan hoplites came to 300 in both the movie and history. Another likeness between the two is the leader of the Spartan hoplites, Leonidas. He was also the one that essentially kick the war off. Of these first two items they are probably among the most recognizable to anyone that knows the story of the Battle of Thermopylae and have seen or know of the movie 300. Other similarities between the movie 300 and the Battle of Thermopylae is the deal that Ephialtes made with Xerxes to show his army the way around the Spartan soldiers using a mountain path used for herding goats. This betrayal by Ephialtes was what brought the downfall of Leonidas and the 300 Spartan hoplites. Ephialtes betrayal of his homeland earned his name an everlasting stigma where his name gained the meaning “nightmare”. One of...

Film Critic

...Film Critique ENG 225 Introduction to Film Instructor: Lynette Cahill Abstract This essay is a critique on Zack Snyder’s movie, 300. This is a film on Leonidas, who is the Spartan King alongside 300 Spartan Warriors that willingly volunteered to stand up against a Persian army, which were almost ten times as many as they were. After a careful look at the film for the following critique, it is clear that there is a general theme prevailing in the whole movie that, sometimes one has to make sacrifices to gain freedom. Film Critique The movie “300” finds its roots from a graphic novel named 300 also, that was written by Frank Miller in 1998. The movie is based on one of the fierce Persian Wars in 492-449 BC in a battle known as the Thermopylae Battle. This battle went down in the historical books as a war that was characterized with plenty of bravery. The Spartan King, who was known as Leonidas, was the leader of 300 Spartan warriors who engaged the Persian Army in a war, which intended to block them from going into Greece via a two-meter wide pass in the Thermopylae Mountains. In as much as the Persian Army greatly outnumbered the Spartan soldiers, they were held back for two days, and in those two days they encountered major losses, which outweighed that of the Spartan warriors by far. However, on the third day, all was lost when a traitor informed the Persian King of a Path...

300 Summary

...I gave a four-star rating to "Sin City," the 2005 film based on a graphic novel by Frank Miller. Now, as I deserve, I get "300," based on another work by Miller. Of the earlier film, I wrote prophetically: "This isn't an adaptation of a comic book, it's like a comic book brought to life and pumped with steroids." They must have been buying steroids wholesale for "300." Every single male character, including the hunchback, has the muscles of a finalist for Mr. Universe. Both films are faithful to Miller's plots and drawings. "300," I learn, reflects the book almost panel-by-panel. They lean so heavily on CGI that many shots are entirely computer-created. Why did I like the first, and dislike the second? Perhaps because of the subject matter, always a good place to start. "Sin City," directed by Robert Rodriguez and Miller, is film noir, my favorite genre, taken to the extreme. "300," directed by Zack Snyder, is ancient carnage, my least favorite genre, taken beyond the extreme. "Sin City" has vividly- conceived characters and stylized dialogue. "300" has one-dimensional caricatures who talk like professional wrestlers plugging their next feud. The movie involves a legendary last stand by 300 death-obsessed Spartans against a teeming horde of Persians. So brave and strong are the Spartans that they skewer, eviscerate, behead and otherwise inconvenience tens of thousands of Persians before finally falling to the weight of overwhelming numbers. The lesson is that the Spartans...

It is a follow-up to the 2007 film 300, taking place before, during, and after the events of that film with a fictionalized retelling of the Battle of Salamis. It is based on the as-yet-unreleased Frank Miller graphic novel Xerxes. Zack Snyder, who directed and co-wrote the original film, acts as writer and producer on Rise of an Empire. Sullivan Stapleton as Themistokles Eva Green as Artemisia Lena Headey as Queen Gorgo Rodrigo Santoro as King Xerxes, God-King of Persia. running time: 102 minutes country: United States budget: $110 million Queen Gorgo tells her men about the Battle of Marathon, in which King Darius I of Persia was killed by General Themistocles of Athens. Darius' son, Xerxes, witnesses his father's death, and is advised to not continue the war, since "only the gods could defeat the Greeks". Darius' naval commander, Artemisia, claims that Darius' last words were in fact a challenge and sends Xerxes on a journey through the desert. Xerxes finally reaches a cave and bathes in an otherworldly liquid, emerging as the "God-King". He returns to Persia and declares war on Greece. Gorgo had been narrating the tale to her Spartan army, and leads them to assist in the battle alongside other allied Greeks, outnumbering the Persians. The Movie "300" - Facts and Ficition

...The explosive movie “300” garners a wide range of praise and criticism from fans and critics alike. The overall movie stays true to the real-life story of the battle of Thermopylae and even has minor details depicted accurately, but it also leaves out major parts of the story. This contradiction of historical accuracy is the main reason for critics to give the movie a thumbs down. However, most of the fiction involved in the movie is pretty obvious and not meant to be taken literally, which, therefore, allows the viewer to enjoy the movie for its visual appeal and not necessarily for its historical teachings. In the end, the opinion of the movie is based on personal preference, but it is still worth mentioning some of the fiction involved in the movie and some of the factual depictions. Before the historical accuracy is discussed, a little information is needed. The movie “300” is an American historical action film made in 2007 and directed by Frank Miller. The movie is based off the graphic novel by the same name and has Gerard Butler in the starring role as the king of the Spartans, King Leonidas. The plot of “300” tells the story of King Leonidas as he leads 300 Spartan warriors in the battle of Thermopylae. This battle took place in 480 BC between a group of allied Greek soldiers, led by the 300 Spartan warriors, and the invading Persian army. Leonidas is only allowed to take 300 soldiers due to religious customs in Sparta going on at the time...

300 Movie

...300 Jonathan Hewitt ENG 225 Cicely Denean-Cobb October 2, 2012 The film I have chosen to do my critique on is Zack Snyder’s 300. 300 is a film about King Leonidas, the King of Sparta, and his 300 Spartan warriors who all stood up against the God-king Xerxes and his massive Persian army from annihilation. After watching the film very closely for my critique I believe there is a serious underlying theme that everyone has the right to be free and sometimes you have to stand up and make sacrifices to keep your freedom. Standing up for freedom is never an easy task as shown in 300 but, everyone deserves to be free. In discussing the storytelling, acting, cinematography, editing, sound, style and directing, the impact of society on the film, genre, a formalist approach to analysis, and the overall textual theme of 300 I will attempt to back up my belief. Storytelling 300’s narrative structure is the first-person point of view of Dilios, a Spartan solider under the command of King Leonidas. The film is presented in chronological order and takes place in Sparta and Thermopylae, Greece. The major conflict in the film is that the Persian army has come to Sparta and requests their submission or will kill them and enslave their women and children. King Leonidas makes the decision to stand up to the Persians but; is not allowed to go to war with the Xerxes, the Persian God-king, because the Ephors deny him the right. The Ephors are later found out to be traitors. Unfortunately,...

Foundations of Mythology

...Running Head: Foundations of Mythology Foundations of Mythology Short Answers Christina Wright University of Phoenix World Mythology Dr. Lawton November 2, 2011 Foundations of Mythology Short Answers How is the word myth used popularly? For example, what does the statement, “It’s a myth” mean? In contrast, how is the word myth used in the academic context? After considering the definition in your textbooks and course materials, write a definition in your own words. The word myth is used popularly in stories or tales that have been told over periods of time that are usually not completely true, but are told in way to be believed as true ("The white hat," 2010). The statement, “It’s a myth” means or refers to something that is not fully true, but it is claimed to be true. It’s basically like if some random person was to tell you a story that something happened to them that was seen as farfetched, in reality no one really knows if it actually happened or not. In contrast, the word myth in academic context is used as follows; Myths are ancient narratives that attempt to answer the enduring and fundamental human questions such as: How did the universe and world come to be? How did we come to be here? Who are we? What are our proper, necessary, or inescapable roles as we relate to one another and to the world at large? What should our values be? How should we behave or not behave? What are the consequences of behaving and not behaving in such ways (Leonard & McClure...

Since its inception, Pixar established itself as a leader and innovator in computer animation. Its first animated short films garnered many film awards, most notably The Tin Toy, which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 1989. A string of blockbuster hits followed, each film doing better than its predecessors. A Bug’s Life was the highest grossing film of 1998. Toy Story 2 became the highest grossing animated movie of its time in 1999, later topped by Monsters, Inc. in 2001, and then by Finding Nemo in 2003. On January 30, 2004, it was announced that Pixar and Disney had failed in their negotiations to extend their contract beyond the animated film Cars, to be released in 2006. With the stellar success of Finding Nemo, Pixar felt entitled to a more profitable contract with Disney. The new Disney CEO Robert Iger has stated that he will continue negotiations with Pixar. Before Pixar makes its decision on its future relationship with Disney, it should consider its survivability and likely profitability in seeking distribution deals elsewhere. II. National Bookstore Industry Analysis

...CHAPTER 4 INDUSTRY AND COMPETITOR ANALYSIS Industry Analysis 4.1 Porter's Five Forces A. Rivalry among Competing Firms - Weak Rivalry among competing firms is considerably low since NBS has maintained its position on being the largest and top bookstore and distributor of the country. Moreover, there are relatively fewer sellers that any one company's actions have little direct impact on rival's business. Products of rival competitors were also somehow different in approach as to which, say, Fully Booked and Goodwill Bookstore focus on book retailing rather than offering school supplies. Even if firms compete with same books and other materials, the pricing strategy of NBS is relatively lowest among rivalry. This has been one of the advantages of NBS throughout the decades past. Lastly, competition has already transcended on internet based systems by delivering online services which fast-paced technology-driven consumers demand. Almost all competing firms have already adapt this change and continually to develop further their online marketing, promotions and strategies. B. Threat of New Entrants - Moderate Threats of new entrants for NBS is moderate since factors of relative price of substitute, low product differentiation, big switching cost to buyers, easy access to distribution channels and high capital requirement is considered. Relatively, strong partnerships with publishers would be advantageous for potential entering firms. Moreover, it is easy...

Two groups of polyester knitted fabrics were analysed. The change of tree selected groups of properties was investigated before and after the application of dye-sublimation printing, namely durability (breaking force and elongation, abrasion resistance and pilling resistance), physiological properties (water vapour permeability, air permeability) and colour-fastness (resistance to rubbing, to domestic and commercial laundering, to perspiration). Further, the structure changes of fabrics (thickness and density) during heat pressing both without application of dyes (without transfer printing on material) and with application of dyes were also studied to analyse the affect extent of printing conditions (particularly pressure and temperature) on total wear comfort printed fabrics. The results show that the tested materials meet requirements in terms of colour-fastness to rubbing, to domestic and commercial laundering and to perspiration to a very...
