Objective 310.2.3-08 Develop an Ethics Program

...Objective 310.2.3-08 I and two other individuals have decided to start a company that will provide management consulting services to nonprofit organizations. The company will have 15 to 20 employees. Since many of our clients will be paying with funds provided by government sources, we have decided it would be appropriate to have an ethics program in place before we start offering services. A company must have an effective ethics program to ensure that all employees understand its values and comply with the policies and codes of conduct that create its ethical culture (Ferrell, Ferrell & Fraedrich, 2008, p. 211). In order to develop an effective ethics program, it must contain certain items. It must first have a code of conduct to establish what is and is not acceptable behavior and to set a general corporate tone as to how employees are expected to conduct themselves. Second, it should have a high level corporate officer in charge of the program. This will also help demonstrate the importance of ethics to the corporation. Third, an effective and ongoing ethics training program is necessary to ensure all employees are aware of what is expected of them. Fourth, a system to monitor and enforce ethical standards must be in place in order to hold employees accountable for their actions and lastly, it must have a mechanism to modify and improve the program when deficiencies appear. When developing our code of conduct, we will use a values orientation instead of a compliance...

...Prompt #11:      I believe that the eighty/ twenty rule that Malcolm Gladwell discusses in the novel, meaning that eighty percent of work is done by twenty percent of people, is very relatable to the real world. This 80/20 rule is known mainly as Pareto's Law. Founded by Vilfredo Pareto in 1906, the formula was established to describe the inequal distribution of wealth in Pareto's home country of Italy. He stated that 20% of the people owned 80% of the countries wealth and hence the eighty/ twenty rule was established. The 80/20 rule has been changed from its strictly economical meanings to purely mean that in anything a few (20 percent) are vital and many(80 percent) are trivial. Two modern day examples where this rule is clearly visible are in the classroom and also in athletics.       In sports the eighty twenty rule could be displayed in many different ways. One example would be the salaries of players. If you look at the roster of the New York Knicks, a basketball team in the Eastern Conference of the NBA, you will find that they have had a total of 21 players this season. Between those 21 athletes the team as a whole was set to make over eighty-one million dollars. If you look at the individual player salaries though you will find that not all players make an even amount. In fact, the top four earners on the team (Carmelo Anthony, Amare Stoudemire, Andrea Bargnani, and Jose Caledron) were set to earn almost 63 million dollars alone. That's almost 77% of the teams total...

Queen James

...LeBron James spent two days trying to figure out the right words. An assistant jotted some ideas on notecards, which were ignored. So when the moment came to deliver his MVP acceptance speech, James spoke emotionally about family, charity, history and what the Miami Heat organization means to him. And he finished with a flourish. "Heat nation, we have a bigger goal," James said. "This is very overwhelming to me as an individual award. But this is not the award I want, ultimately. I want that championship. That's all that matters to me." James accepted his third NBA MVP award Saturday, making him the eighth player in league history to win that many. The others — Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan, Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson and Moses Malone — all have won NBA titles. On Sunday, James resumes that quest. "He's going to get his," Heat President Pat Riley said. "He will get his championship. And there might be a lot more there, too." James received 85 of a possible 121 first-place votes from a panel of sports writers and broadcasters who cover the league, with fans on NBA.com combining for one vote. He earned 1,074 points, topping Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant (889 points, 24 first-place votes), the Los Angeles Clippers' Chris Paul (385, six first-place votes), the Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant (352, two first-place votes), and San Antonio's Tony Parker (331, four first-place votes). ...Born on August 23, 1978 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Kobe Bryant played for the Charlotte Hornets right out of high school. He was soon traded to the L.A. Lakers, where he went on to win five championships and become one of the leading scorers of the NBA. He has had a famous rivalry with one-time teammate Shaquille O'Neal and was once accused of sexual assault, though charges were later dropped. Bryant played on both the 2008 and 2012 U.S. Olympic teams, winning two consecutive gold medals with teammates Kevin Durant, LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony, among several other top players. Early Life Kobe Bean Bryant was born August 23, 1978 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Named after a Japanese steakhouse, Kobe Bryant is the son of former NBA player Joe "Jellybean" Bryant. In 1984, after ending his NBA career, the elder Bryant took the family to Italy where he played on the Italian League. Growing up in Italy alongside two athletic older sisters, Shaya and Sharia, Kobe was an avid player of both basketball and soccer. When the family returned to Philadelphia in 1991, Bryant joined the Lower Merion high school basketball team, leading it to the state championships four years in a row. With an eye on the NBA, he also started working out with the 76ers. Though he boasted good grades and high SAT scores, Bryant decided to go straight to the NBA from high school. In 1996, he was picked by Charlotte in the draft, and was subsequently traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. NBA Career ...

...Kobe and LeBron are two of the best players in the NBA. They were both blessed with many talents. For many years Kobe and LeBron have sold out every NBA arena. Kobe Bryant’s determination, great footwork, and the ability to score the basketball made him into one of the great players in the league today. LeBron James strength, ability to lead a team, and his ways to change a game made him into a great player. Kobe has a killer jump shot and great post moves to make a defender struggle to guard him. LeBron’s strength makes him a mismatch for anybody to guard him. In the NBA people have a hard time guarding him because he is either too fast or too strong for opposing players. Hard work and dedication pays off so they can become the best players in the game of basketball. First, Kobe’s and LeBron’s high school years were the same. During Kobe’s junior year, averaged 31.1 points, 10.4 rebounds and 5.2 assists and was named,” Pennsylvania Player of the Year.” Colleges called him up to recruit him after his breakout year; but, when Kevin Garnett went in the first round of the 1995 NBA Draft, he began considering going straight to the league. In his senior year of high school, Bryant led the Aces to their first state championship in 53 years. During the run, he averaged 30.8 points, 12 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 4.0 steals, and 3.8 blocked shots in leading his high school to a 31–3 record. He ended his career as Pennsylvania's all-time leading scorer at 2,883 points. LeBron’s junior and...

Dopin in Sports

...DOPING IN SPORTS Have you ever played a sport that you worked on your whole life, then lost to someone who used steroids? Well you’re not the only one, over 78% of past and current athletes are on or used steroids. I say steroids should be banned from sports for good and I also have some reasons why. Reason 1, they become stronger than an average human bean. Steroids make your muscles and brain grow faster than a normal human’s rate. This causes outbreaks of strength, aggression, and unreal muscle mass. Reason 2, it’s unfair to others who work out. Athletes like Derrick Rose, LeBron James, Ray Rice, and Kevin Durant work out daily and eat right. Others like Shawne Merriman, Jose Canseco, and Barry Bonds would eat unhealthy, then take steroids. Reason 3, it causes illness and deformation. Illnesses like Gynecomastia and HIV can be caused by steroids. Also it can cause heart and kidneys failure, development stunt, balding, high blood pressure, malfunctions and more. I know some people might say using steroids is easier than working out on regular basis. This is true, but it is not worth getting ill or losing a dream, because they were too lazy to work out. They will regret using steroids, instead of getting active. I say that the athlete who used or is using steroids should be banned from the league they were in. It’s unfair, unsafe, and heartbreaking to people everywhere. People lose their dreams and their lives, while the factories who make steroids make money. Don’t...

Standing 7-foot-6-inch (2.29-meters) tall and wearing size 18 shoes, he was drafted No. 1 by the Houston Rockets and made the N.B.A. All-Star team his rookie year. Yao was selected to the NBA All-Star team eight times. He averaged 19 points and 9.2 rebounds during his NBA career. More importantly, his impact expanded the NBA's influence in Asia into lucrative merchandise sales and TV ratings.  Yao is China’s first global sports superstar with a personal brand valued at more than $1 billion. Even after his retirement he remains one of the most popular celebrities in China. When U.S. President Barrack Obama addressed a meeting of Chinese-American business leaders he predictably quoted the Confucian sage Mencius but also quoted Yao Ming : “No matter whether you need are new or an old team member, you need time to adjust to one another.” In seven NBA seasons Yao has averaged 19.1 points and 9.3 rebounds (2010)/ In 2007 Yao was named an NBA All-Star for the sixth time. In the 2005-2006 season he was the top All-Star vote getter ahead of Kobe Bryant. Sports Management

...Charles Allen Mrs. Rogers Integrated Marketing 4/11/12 Kobe Vs. LeBron in the Market World Two of the biggest names in the NBA are Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. With both men playing in very lively cities, Los Angeles, California and Miami, Florida both Kobe and LeBron are very marketable players. Seeing them both in the cities on billboards, commercials, or hosting events or charities is very likely. Since both are the league’s biggest names, which one is the most marketable? Taking into consideration that does the most work in the community, commercials, billboards, and media interviews, will measure who is the more marketable player. Kobe and LeBron have been compared time after time, because they are both future hall of famer’s. Both have very respectful spots on Sports Illustrated’s Fortune 50 list. Kobe, was placed at number six with a total of 10 million from endorsements last year. But Kobe being a more “seasoned” veteran than LeBron, has had many endorsement deals. The Bleacherreport.com reports in February of 2001 Kobe signed a deal with McDonald’s for 10 million dollars (http://bleacherreport.com). McDonald’s was promoting a new meal called the Big N’ Tasty and Kobe was the front of it all. Kobe has had video games with Nintendo but he was more loved for his role in the world famous game Call of Duty: Black Ops in 2010. With Black Mamba written on the side of his gun, Kobe has his own featured scene. A very key endorsement for Kobe Bryant was Adidas. This...

Cleveland Cavaliers Saturday Night Concert

...Entering the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Saturday night matchup with the Boston Celtics, the Cavs could have viewed the contest as a legitimate test during the last stretch of the NBA season. Boston arrived in Cleveland with a 38-25 record, good for third-best in the Eastern Conference. A test was exactly what the Cavaliers got. The Celtics started the game on fire, posting a double-digit lead less than seven minutes into the contest. However, Cleveland battled back and eventually pulled away from the scrappy Celtics for a 120-103 victory in Quicken Loans Arena. With the win, Cleveland pushed its record to 33-3 when scoring at least 100 points this season, while also taking the season series with Boston 2-1. “I just told us we need to be more physical on both ends,” Cavs head coach Tyronn Lue said. “I don’t think to start the game, we didn’t come out aggressive on the defensive end, and we didn’t come out aggressive offensively. In the second half, we came out and we were able to attack downhill, get to the free throw line and get to the basket.” Leading 103-96 after Celtics center and former Cavalier Tyler Zeller converted two free throws with 5:31 to play in the fourth quarter, the Cavs put Boston away late. After Zeller’s freebies, Cavs guard J.R. Smith immediately sank a three-pointer, LeBron James drained a layup and shooting guard Iman Shumpert splashed a jump shot. The three consecutive buckets gave Cleveland a 110-96 lead with 3:59 to play, essentially putting the game out...

So this now has to be 250 words huh… On the Wiki * LOS ANGELES -- Antawn Jamison is joining up with Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash to chase a championship with the Los Angeles Lakers. * Jamison will sign a one-year deal for the veteran's minimum with the Lakers, a league source told ESPNLosAngeles.com's Dave McMenamin. * * Jamison * The 36-year-old forward will bolster the Lakers' bench with scoring and veteran leadership while pursuing the first championship ring in a career largely spent as the best player on bad teams. * He won't have that problem with the Lakers, who will have Bryant and newcomer Nash in their backcourt flanked by two elite 7-footers -- although their identities will depend on whether their apparent efforts to land Dwight Howard are successful. Jamison also will be reunited with coach Mike Brown, who was in charge of the Cavaliers when Jamison was traded to Cleveland during the 2009-10 season. * Jamison had several suitors for his services, including his hometown Charlotte Bobcats, the Brooklyn Nets and the Golden State Warriors, his employer for his first five NBA seasons. For a player who has never advanced past the second round of the playoffs in 14 NBA seasons, the Lakers' chance to contend apparently was too enticing to Jamison. * The Lakers are the fifth NBA team for Jamison, who averaged 17.2 points for an awful Cavs team last season despite shooting a career-low 40.3 percent...
