I am writing this briefing note for you to gain some understanding of the organisation in preparation for your start.

Schuh was established in 1981 in the North Bridge Arcade in Edinburgh. The Schuh concept was, and still is, based upon a simple philosophy: “To provide aspirational but accessible fashion footwear, sold in a unique and exciting retail environment at prices which represent value for money and sold by friendly, knowledgeable staff.”
We still hold true to the original Schuh philosophy and stock an exciting array of footwear from over 90 well known and new up and coming brands, including Converse, Vans and UGG as well as our own labels; Schuh, Momentum and Red or Dead. We aim to offer value for money and a level of service that’s second to none. Our customers range from those who have known and shopped with Schuh for years to those who are just discovering us. The one thing they have in common is a love of shoes. We stock such a wide variety of brands and styles that we have something to cater for all ages, genders and occasions. In 2012 our shoes became smaller with the launch of Schuh Kids, offering a full range of kids branded product too.

In the last two years we have opened a whopping 40 stores which takes the total number of stores to a 100. To enable the recent growth and future expansion plans of the Schuh store estate and online offering, the company needed to expand beyond the Neilson Square distribution centre in Livingston, Scotland. The new 245, 000 square foot DC is five times larger than the Livingston warehouse and is located on the recently acquired site at the J4M8 complex in Bathgate, Scotland. Schuh want to continue to grow with even more store openings throughout the UK. We also have plans to expand into Europe, starting in Germany.
