A letter to pen pal

Dear Davie, January 6, 2014
Thanks for the letter.
I also haven’t written to anyone, in another country than Denmark, only over the internet.
I really don't know if I’m good at English, I love the language and I think I am okay at it.
I don't know what you exactly what you mean, with the life over here.
I live in south Denmark, so there aren’t so many beaches, but in the summertime there is stopped with people. We have some old doors and some buildings, among other things, some people find interesting, I just think it is boring.
Some time I really want to go to America, and see some of the things, like lady liberty, the golden gate, and all those things.
About the Race's, I do not we have any problems at all, with people who does not look like us. There is a lot of foreigner in Denmark and of course not all of us like them, but I don't have any problems with them being here.
The wild life over in California sounds really amazing, in Denmark I do not think there is anything else than Reindeers.
Guitar and drums wow, are you good at it? I do not play anything, but I really want to play the piano.
I like Michael to, but I like all kinds of music, well a lot of it. Are there any other musicians you like?
I do not have a real job, I help my dad sometimes. He is self-employed, and has not hired any people, so he needs the help.
I think it is really cool that you work in a supermarket, I am afraid to do that, when I get old enough, because I do not like to talk to strangers.
It sounds really interesting in your country, and I would love to hear more.
Love,

Pen Pal Letter

...Hello Friend, I am glad to hear you are interested in learning more about the internet. It will help you excel in your technology in your country. Having all of the information you need does make things easier. You can look up anything and everything from news, weather, music, sports and much more. The one thing is that there is so many different sources for what you are searching for. You have to make sure you research each one to know if it is a good credible site for your information. When I am searching for topics or items on the internet the value is important. Checking for authors and who owns the site can help. To assess any sort of value you should cross check it with other sites of similar value and information. The more you cross check, the more you can assess what value that site actually has. A false or out of date web site has no value. When you are on the internet for whatever reason, it is always important to make sure the site is credible and the information is up to date. Using out of date information is more common than you think. A lot of people do not research the information or web site they are using. They don’t take the extra step. Some think that the internet is a truth fountain and that nothing on the internet is false. That is very important for you to know. The internet is not all true. In order to determine if a web site is reliable, you should research the information and check for authors and backgrounds. Knowing the web sites back ground...

Race - Historical Report

...October 1, 2014 Dear Sarafina, Hello my dearest pen pal. I hope this letter finds you well and in good spirits. Since we are still in the getting to know you phase of our correspondence I thought it would be a good idea for us to relay some information about my heritage and cultural history as you have done for me about yours. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the Italian history through your eyes, experiences and historical research. Are you ready for a historical walk through of my African-American culture? Although I reside in the United States now my history starts in Africa where my people were sold off and enslaved to the white Americans. The first African slaves were brought here to the United States in the Colony of Jamestown Virginia in 1619. Slaves were brought here to help aid in the production of mass crops such as tobacco. Slavery continued and ultimately ended on December 18, 1865. During the slavery era there were things that aided slaves like the under ground rail road. This was an avenue that helps slaves escape to freedom. One of the most famous escaped slaves was Harriet Tubman. She escaped in 1849 and was one of the most celebrated and effective leaders of the Underground Railroad. President Lincoln was a key element when it came to dealing the freeing of the slaves when he released the emancipation proclamation in 1863. Although Lincoln accelerated the movement of freeing the slaves he knew it would take a constitutional amendment to let the...

The Dragon Devouring The Companions Of Cadmus Analysis

...I do so look forward to when I may write you again. I was once a poor wretch, lost in the past. These letters give me the chance to use a cettain amount of…something which I find both motivationsl and cathartic. Did you enjoy the article I sent last time? In all my ecstasy in finding a friend to listen to me, I neglected to mention a thing about it. Do you think that a funny thing? I can tell you I am amused. I never had a friend quite like you. Most people will not have an experience with a one-sided pen-pal to be sure, but I fell there is something quite special between us. Yes, something special is happening. Do you feel it? Though we have not yet met, I'm certain of the truth in this. As I write this letter, I am reminded of my favorite works of art, "The dragon devouring the companions of Cadmus" by Hendrick Goltzius. Have you seen it? The expressiveness in the dying eyes of the men draws me every time I used to see it. The way he captures their shock at the discovery of such a horrific beast in such a seemingly pastoral setting is unparalleled. Of course, They don't let us view such grotesque imagery - it is far too upsetting. Yes - Do look at and you may agree. However, I can see it whenever I, not infrequently, close my eyes. Such brilliance cannot be contained in the real world....

Mary and Max

...Mary and Max It is 1976, an 8-year-old Mary Daisy Dinkle (Bethany Whitmore) is a lonely little girl living in Mount Waverley, Melbourne, Australia. Her relatively poor family cannot afford to buy her toys or nice clothing, and she is teased by children at her school due to an unfortunate birthmark on her forehead. Her father is distant and her alcoholic, kleptomaniac mother provides no support. The closest thing she has to a friend is the man for whom Mary collects mail, Len Hislop, a World War II veteran who lost his legs as a prisoner of war and has developed agoraphobia. One day, she decides to write a letter to someone living in New York City: by pure chance she chooses Max Jerry Horowitz (Philip Seymour Hoffman) from a telephone directory. Max turns out to be a morbidly obese 44-year-old whose various mental problems (including anxiety attacks and overeating) have left him unable to form close bonds with other people. Max decides to write back to Mary, and the two become friends. Over time, Mary's increasingly sensitive questions about the adult world give Max progressively worse anxiety attacks, and he is ultimately institutionalized. During his time there, Max is diagnosed with depression and Asperger syndrome. Now aware of why he has difficulty relating to other people, Max finds a new lease on life and resumes his correspondence with Mary. The two remain friends for the next two decades, keeping one another updated on various events in their lives. Mary (Toni Colette)...

Childhood Book

...friends and their surroundings. While we are never too old to read tales of compassion, caring, and unequivocal friendship, Lobel's Frog and Toad tales primarily speak to children in primary grades. The language is basic, the sentences are short, and the chapters in the books are just the right length. Even though the characters are fictional, the feelings they share are very real, and the care they show for each other and the world around them stands as a good example of behavior. This book is a perfect example of taking a theme and creating stories surrounding that theme in a variety of ways that will appeal to younger children just learning to read. Children seem to relate strongly to these tales. In response to "The Letter," in which Frog becomes Toad's pen pal to fulfill his...

Touch Me

...”Touch me” - Analysis Hunger, poverty, possibilities, survival and bad health are all a big part of the exciting extract of the novel “Touch me” by Romen Basu. It is a heartbreaking story that will give you the view of poverty from an insider; it will make you realize how much poor people go trough in the chase of new possibilities. In this essay I will analyze and interpret the extract of the novel “Touch me”. I will characterize the main characters being Jathumal, his mother Tarabai. I will partly focus on Jathumal and Tim’s relationship and also the caste system in India. “Touch me” takes place on the Mirabag squatter’s colony in Mumbai, India. Mirabag squatter’s colony is one of the poorest parts of Mumbai, where the protagonist Jathumal is settled with his mother Tarabai; they live in a little ruined hut that easily could turn into ruins. “Jathumal’s hut was made of sheets of corrugated iron for walls with discarded scrap iron covered with tattered tarpaulin for the roof. Putting his shoeshine box in the corner by the door” (p. 38, l. 1). This easily describes how bad the conditions are. Jathumal is a ten year old Indian shoe polisher; he has no school because in order to survive and feast, he must work for the money. Jathumal is a very kind and goodhearted kid, even though he must work for the sake of his mother’s health, he does not complain and protest against it. He has seen the world as it really is from the start and that only makes him stronger and more appreciative...

Crib of Words

...Katie vonErden Professor Thompson English 2089 31 January 2016 A Crib of Words “Mommy…is she going to have a wittle baby, just like my sister Ali?” said an awestruck 4 year old Katie vonErden. Before I can even remember, my parents have always sensed my adoration and passion for the miracle of life, babies specifically. No matter the setting, I was always toting my own baby dolls in pretty pink, floral carriages and feeding them generously from miniature baby bottles. Eyes beaming and my mouth never losing its delighted smile, I’d always love “playing mother”. Never missing a beat, from the sunrise to sundown I spent most of my hours pretending to read fantasy stories to “my baby” and create my own baby care/personal schedules. No matter where I happened to be, whether in a busy-bodied grocery store or in the confinement of my princess-themed room, I absolutely loved making up colorful stories about unicorns and rainbows—literally—and adding in my own noises and expressions to “make my baby smile”. Bubbling over with a constant energy imagination, my stories always had happy endings and dramatic plot twists. I wanted to be the caregiver that made one laugh hysterically and dance with anticipation. As I arrived at the ending of my stories, I felt it. I felt the story, its energy and excitement, bringing me closer to “my baby”. My 41 inch height and even tinier physique defied the independent, motherly spirit and passion I had for babies. I wanted to teach, open up...

Essay Analysis: Unfettered by Guilt, She’s Ready for Checkout

...Kayla Morrone September 19th, 2012 Unfettered by guilt, she’s ready for checkout written by Rosie DiManno is an expository essay following the trial and sentence of the formerly known as Karla Leanne Teale. It discusses Karla’s actions, the damage they cause and whether or not she is genuinely guilt-ridden for what she’s done. I feel DiManno writes a well-crafted essay that stimulates an intellectual and emotional response to Karla’s trials. It lets audiences uncover the truth behind Karla Teale and whether or not she is deserving of a new life in Montreal. The author’s purpose in writing the essay encourages intellectual thoughts in order to form a basic opinion of Karla. She then reinforces the opinion through the use of tone, allowing a new emotional perspective. The language the author uses brings together the essay’s objective in reaching a final conclusion of Karla, one that is not admirable. It is difficult to imagine, from my point of view, that someone would defend Karla for the crimes she is convicted of. However, these people do exist and Rosie DiManno makes it her objective in this essay to show Karla’s true colours. She explains Karla’s actions, interprets and then criticizes them to allow the audience to realize Ms. Teale’s underlying intentions. I feel Rosie makes this point clear through her use of rhetorical questions to mock, ridicule and demonstrate Karla’s lack of sentiment. An example of this literary device is seen through the quotation...

Behaviro and Communication

...Organizational Behavior and Communication Paper   ‘The phrase “The customer is always right” was originally coined by Harry Gordon Selfridge, the founder of Selfridge’s department store in London in 1909” (Bonnell, 2009). This phrase is used by a number of businesses to portray an image to the public that customers will receive quality customer service, and is also unfortunately used by customers to abuse and exploit employees. Southwest Airlines has adopted a different strategy, one that is unique and sought after by many organizations developed by their founder Herb Keller who started the company in 1971 (Smith, 2004). The Mission Statement of the company is twofold and first addresses the customer. Second the statement addresses its employees. The customer’s message “Mission of Southwest Airlines” states, “The mission of Southwest Airlines is dedication to the highest quality of Customer Service delivered with a sense of warmth, friendliness, individual pride, and Company Spirit.” The second portion of the mission statement titled “To Our Employees” states, “We are committed to provide our Employees a stable work environment with equal opportunity for learning and personal growth. Creativity and innovation are encouraged for improving the effectiveness of Southwest Airlines. Above all, Employees will be provided the same concern, respect, and caring attitude within the organization that they are expected to share externally with every Southwest Customer.” “The company’s...
