The family is a social group characterized by common residence, economic and co-operation and reproduction, according to George Murdock. The term of traditional family includes heterosexual relationship between two parents, being married (preferably first marriage), having children, living together, division of labor by sex (father is the breadwinner and mother is the homemaker), taken father's name by wife and children. These type of families are more than a social unit, it is given "holy" status in society. Nuclear family is a type of traditional family and requires adapting to a life that requires high mobility, isolating husbands and wives from their kin (neolocal residence), a strong dependence of individual members on one another.
In fact the traditional type of families, family includes multiple meanings because of this reason there are alternative family forms such as single parent (majority are female headed households, common between West Indians and Puerto Ricans), blended and reconstituted (formed by adults who have married previously and who bring their children from their previous marriage to the new marriage, forming a new family unit), extended (based on common descent, commonly consists of a married couple and one or more married children), cohabiting couples and complex families (co-wives' economic and political interests, especially with regards to their children, their labour, and their allegiances to their kin, often conflict). These type of families are a cross-culturally universal social institution which do not have to based on traditional meaning of the family but identity construction, economic production (distribution of goods, labor demands, inheritance) and reproduction (biological or cultural).
The reason of the decline in nuclear family is industrialization, according to functionalist sociologists. Before the half of 18th century, the

Levels of Measurement

...Normally, when one hears the term measurement, they may think in terms of measuring the length of something (e.g., the length of a piece of wood) or measuring a quantity of something (ie. a cup of flour). This represents a limited use of the term measurement. In statistics, the term measurement is used more broadly and is more appropriately termed scales of measurement. Scales of measurement refer to ways in which variables/numbers are defined and categorized. Each scale of measurement has certain properties which in turn determines the appropriateness for use of certain statistical analyses. The four scales of measurement are nominal, ordinal, interval, and ratio. Nominal: Categorical data and numbers that are simply used as identifiers or names represent a nominal scale of measurement. Numbers on the back of a baseball jersey and your social security number are examples of nominal data. If I conduct a study and I'm including gender as a variable, I may code Female as 1 and Male as 2 or visa versa when I enter my data into the computer. Thus, I am using the numbers 1 and 2 to represent categories of data. Ordinal: An ordinal scale of measurement represents an ordered series of relationships or rank order. Individuals competing in a contest may be fortunate to achieve first, second, or third place. first, second, and third place represent ordinal data. If Roscoe takes first and Wilbur takes second, we do not know if the competition was close; we only know that Roscoe outperformed...

Level of Detail vs. Level of Development in Construction

...Level of Development and Level of Detail came into play with the advancement of computers and BIM technology. As the AEC industry began move towards using computer renditions for design and analysis, it became necessary to define the certainty with which drawings could be trusted. The detailing of elements changes throughout the duration of a project, so it is important for the team to be able to recognize what level of detail is provided and how trustworthy it is. For this reason, different levels of development were created to allow for a standardized system of analyzing drawings and details. Level of Development vs. Level of Detail The level of Development (LOD) enables construction teams to specify and distinguish the content and reliability of Building Information Models at various stages of the design and construction process with high levels of clarity and reliability. The LOD describes the minimum dimensional, spatial, quantitative, and qualitative data included in a Model Element to support the authorized uses associated with such LOD. Since each Model Element develops at a different rate, the Level of Development (LOD) framework allows the project team to understand the progression of a Model Element from conceptual idea to precise final definition and description. The LOD of a given Model Element informs other Project Participants how developed the information is expected to be. This allows participants to extent to decipher which that information can be relied...

4 Levels of Measurement

...4 Levels of Measurement Nominal Scale The nominal scale (also called dummy coding) simply places people, events, perceptions, etc. into categories based on some common trait. Some data are naturally suited to the nominal scale such as males vs. females, redheads vs. blondes vs. brunettes, and African American vs. Asian. The nominal scale forms the basis for such analyses as Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) because those analyses require that some category is compared to at least one other category. The nominal scale is the lowest form of measurement because it doesn’t capture information about the focal object other than whether the object belongs or doesn’t belong to a category; either you are a smoker or not a smoker, you attended college or you didn’t, a subject has some experience with computers, an average amount of experience with computers, or extensive experience with computers. No data is captured that can place the measured object on any kind of scale say, for example, on a continuum from one to ten. Coding of nominal scale data can be accomplished using numbers, letters, labels, or any symbol that represents a category into which an object can either belong or not belong. Ordinal Scale The ordinal scale has at least one major advantage over the nominal scale. The ordinal scale contains all of the information captured in the nominal scale but it also ranks data from lowest to highest. Rather than simply categorize data by placing an object either into or not into a...

Sea Level Rise

...Greenland. While the shipping industry—which now has easy northern access between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans—may be cheering this “natural” development, scientists worry about the impact of the resulting rise in sea levels around the world. The Impact of Rising Sea Levels According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, made up of leading climate scientists, sea levels have risen some 3.1 millimeters per year since 1993. And the United Nations Environment Program predicts that, by 2010, some 80 percent of people will live within 62 miles of the coast, with about 40 percent living within 37 miles of a coastline. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) reports that low-lying island nations, especially in equatorial regions, have been hardest hit by this phenomenon, and some are threatened with total disappearance. Rising seas have already swallowed up two uninhabited islands in the Central Pacific. On Samoa, thousands of residents have moved to higher ground as shorelines have retreated by as much as 160 feet. And islanders on Tuvalu are scrambling to find new homes as salt water intrusion has made their groundwater undrinkable while increasingly strong hurricanes and ocean swells have devastated shoreline structures. WWF says that rising sea levels throughout tropical and sub-tropical regions of the...

Multi Level Marketing

...What is Multi Level Marketing (MLM)? Multi-level marketing, also known as network marketing, is a form of direct sales in which individuals, known as distributors, sell products, usually over the telephone or go door to door. Distributors recruit other distributors who do the same. Each distributor makes money on the products that their recruits sell in addition to the money they make from their own sales. The idea is that eventually the original distributor can just sit back and let the distributors he recruited make money for him. For a fee, usually between $25 and $100, these MLM companies will sell people a distributor kit that includes informational brochures about the product they will be selling, price lists, order forms and an instructional manual. Basics of MLM When it started in the 1930s, MLM was a legitimate business practice that afforded a way for small businesses to get their products to consumers in rural areas that had no access to these products. The idea was much like that of the traveling salesman. At the time, the products sold themselves and the percentage that went to the owner(s) was regarded as an award to those who built the organization. The focus remained on the product. MLM today Today, with the advent of technology giving us the ability to travel far distances, there is no need for these "distribution systems." Therefore, the focus has shifted from the product to recruiting new people to buy into the program or to sell low-quality products...

Global warming is an important cause if climate change. The temperature of the world is increasing day by day. As a result the ice of arctic areas is melting. And this is raising the sea level. Though the temperature is increasing equally all over the world but all the countries of the world are not equally affected by this global warming. Usually costal areas, islands, and lower lands are mostly affected by this sea level rise. They are flooded badly each year because of this sea level rise. Global warming not only affects the environmental life but also they affect the political economic and infrastructural basis. Bangladesh is one of the most vulnerable countries of sea level rise. Sea Level Rise

...productive coastal and marine ecosystems are imperative to the state’s present and future. These ecosystems provide food and other products for its habitat as well as valuable and irreplaceable ecological functions. These systems also attract visitors from all over the world who wish to experience the beauty and recreational opportunities these locations offer. The state’s life-support system, economy, and quality of life depend on preserving and sustaining these resources over the long term . Of prime interest to Florida is the climate changes impact on rising sea levels. Sea Level Rise (SLR) has been identified as a major global problem. SLR has two causes, the melting of mountain glaciers and polar ice sheets and thermal expansion of the oceans. At present, the mean global rate of sea level rise is approximately 3 mm per year. However, within a relatively broad band of certainty, projections for future sea level rise consistently indicate a non-linear increase in this rate. A rise of at least 1 meter before the end of the century is an increasingly likely possibility . SLR is a serious problem for Florida because of its vast stretches of coast-line. A large portion of the state’s coastline and near-shore inland areas are less than 10 feet in elevation and are...

Understanding Your Customers - Hr Cipd Level 3

...The role of a HR Assistant is a varied and interesting role as no day is ever the same, whilst dealing with clients. A HR function should ensure the services they provide are timely and effective, as they are a cost centre and need to be adding value to any business. Understanding Customers Customers of HR want a proactive HR function, which spots issues ahead of time and works closely with managers to address them. Within HR there are many types of clients who have different needs, below I will list the 3 most common and an example of a need they may have from HR. * Employees An employee may contact HR to ask for information and guidance regarding how to initiate a flexible working contract. * Line managers A line manager will contact HR for advice and guidance on how to manage sickness and absence regarding an employee. * Directors Directors may need to know the staff structure of an organisation in order to prepare for issues that affect the whole business. As a HR Assistant is generally front line, they may have to prioritise conflicting needs from the clients. For example - an employee may phone up to complain that their manager is bullying them and they would like advice. The manager would also phone HR but to complain that an employee is not fulfilling their job expectation and would like advice. It is the role of the HR Assistant to remain impartial and to give clear accurate advice. One helpful method in prioritising needs can be found in Stephen...
