“Marketing and Selling Technique Seminar”, a successful seminar that was held last Tuesday (July 10, 2012). The seminar brought much information, ideas, tips, as well as inspirational thoughts and experiences on us business management students shared by successful people in the field of marketing.

The heartfelt invocation which started the program made the whole crowd in silence, and then it was being followed by our national anthem. The idea to exert a little effort to make the students alive to start the seminar was very much appreciated; the singing portion participated by talented ladies and the “pick-up lines” that were thrown by CMBT students made the crowd awake. I was happy when our department dean Marilou Pascual and the Vice Presidents of our campus started to share their inspirational messages, it was like we’re so privileged to hear words of wisdom coming from them. After the speech of our dean and of the vice presidents, an energetic dance number was performed by selected third year students, I guess many of us was entertained but somehow, somewhere I heard voices of my fellow students saying “ang inet naman!”, well I proved them right because I was also experiencing irritation because of the hot weather. Most of us students got excited because Sir. Arjhel Domingo the master of the ceremony just announced that before Mr. Simangan speak, we must first get our food!, so it’s “Merienda Time!” I’m just a bit disappointed about our drinks, it’s because it was warm! But at least the bread included was just fine. After the break time, Mr. Domingo finally introduced our resource speaker. I thought that Mr. Simangan will be just boring, but I was wrong because I enjoyed listening to him and with the use of the prepared presentation seen through the projector, I was able to understand more what Mr. Richard was saying. The resource speaker shared lots of

Investment Banking and the Capital Acquisition Process

...Investment Banking and the Capital Acquisition Process Smith (1986) 1. Introduction This paper reviews the various methods firms use to raise capital and the effect these methods have on security prices. Firms can raise external capital by selling several securities which they market in different ways. In terms of the theory of corporate finance, capital markets play a vital role in a firm’s investment policies. Therefore, it is critical to have an understanding of the various contractual procedures in the process of raising capital. To provide us with this understanding, this paper will look at the theory and evidence related to stock price reactions around announcements of differing security offerings, the contractual arrangements associated with the marketing of corporate securities and incentives for under-pricing in initial public equity offerings. 2. ...decisions based on their competitor's reactions. They also must use advertising to differentiate themselves from their competitors. It is very interesting how a firm operates when considering the market structure and making market decisions to guide the firm's actions and reactions. It was interesting to learn the different markets that a firm can be part of, whether it is a perfect competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly, or monopoly. Each market has several firms that exists within it and have defined themselves by using characteristics of such markets. As a team we had to understand the meaning of competitive firm, monopolist, and monopolistic competitive firm to maximize a business's profits. * Competitive firm - profit-maximizing condition of a competitive firm as MC = MR = P (Colander, 2010, p. 322). * Monopolist firm - A monopolist can charge the maximum price consumers are willing to pay for the quantity the monopolist produces (Colander, 2010, p. 355). * Monopolistic competitive firm - is a market structure in which there are many firms selling differentiated products and few barriers to entry (Colander, 2010, p. 361). We feel that some of our struggles in the class are still how to read and understand graphs about supply and demand curves and how we can use it in our businesses to help us become more successful. In conclusion, the economics of profits and losses can be determined in today's marketing strategy. The business has to determine...
