Richard Rodriguez's use of irony in his dissertation titled “Blaxicans’ and Other Reinvented Americans” was not an effective writing style to persuade his audience. The authors opening statement consist of derogatory terminology and offensive vernaculars to the immigrant community specifically Mexicans, but according to OMB the phraseology Hispanic is politically accurate. In Rodriguez’s opening remarks he converses about how immigrants speaking in their language of preference is disturbing.
