Remediation of Tribe and Abramovic Artwork What is remediation and how does it play part in art? Everything has its own creation but it takes one to start it. Many people tend to think a specific performance or media was it’s own original content, which results to be true. Have one ever consider about people who appropriated someone else’s idea and change it their own way. That is a form of remediation by changing its past media to new media. However, the way I define remediation is recreating or remediate something to make it better or worse. Remediation defines as representation of one medium in another by defining characteristics of new digital media. Both of these terms help us understand more about new media compared with reality. Immediacy referred to virtual reality as being captivating, which means style art presented through a medium to make itself visible. (Bolter and Grusin, 21-22). Most of today’s video game is immediacy because of the graphic image being display on the television giving one a virtual reality. It creates a 3 dimensional realm having different perspective. For example, the VR (virtual reality) headset is a training tool for US army, who can experience the same reality when they were at the battlefield. It also helps them prepare for reality circumstances and interact the same experience when they were at war. I would consider Kerry Tribe, Untitled (Potential Terrorist) and Marina Abramovic, (The Artist is Present) as aggressive remediation because they are both referring to the media on how it disconnect with society or media targeting individuals. How I define aggressive remediation, the ability of artist being able to switch up the style using techniques from older media and making it their own. Aggressive remediation maintains a sense of multiplicity or hypermediacy by transforming the older medium entirely but still mark the presence of it. (Bolter and Grusin, 46). From Tribe and Abramovic artwork, one can see that they are address some of the issues, which media are addressing today? Subjects that impact society like age, gender, and culture.
