Absolut Blank.
The alcohol industry is an ever-competitive market—from small-batch to the biggest name brands. Founded in 1879, Absolut Vodka could be depicted as classic vodka; but Absolut markets their company to the unique individual pursuing an alternative lifestyle (Bhasin). They provide a diverse range of products that can provide a new twist to a classic experience. Absolut is one of the world’s top five spirit brands—sold in 126 markets (Absolut: Brand Profile). It is one of the few brands that have been able to continuously increase sales even though the market is shrinking (Bhasin). In an industry that is prohibited to advertise on the television, creativity and innovative campaigns are crucial for success. Absolut became one of the …show more content…
Absolut have been primarily concerned with print ad marketing; their innovative approach has defined the brand as artistic. They promote continuity and variety. The global brand has created impact through representing their proprietary bottle design with taglines like “Absolut Perfection” and through respected artist references and collaborations. Their print innovation is the focal point of their communication with the target audience.
One of their famous campaigns was introduced as Absolut Blank (Macleod). It was a global initiative that consisted of twenty artist collaborations through film, print and outdoor advertisements (Macleod). This campaign was designed to inspire creativity through a blank canvas, with the tagline “It all starts with an Absolut Blank.” This iconic reference to the bottle with a blank canvas entices artists and consumers to collaborate. The premium price of the vodka suggests that a smooth drink is in the future for the consumer. After reading many Absolut vodka reviews, it is apparent that people do not think it is worth the price. One person says, “They have great ad campaigns” (Brodrecht). They continue to say that it is only a “good mixer” and “a smooth but bad tasting shooter” (Brodrecht). Others say that it is “a mid-range vodka” that the company can’t “justify its price” (Brodrecht). There is a consensus that the product does not delivery on quality with the price it has. Absolut continues to define itself as premium vodka with high-quality efforts to produce the best product for the consumer. This is how they reach the target audience; they want to appeal to the innovator who wants the premium price vodka with the marketing hype.
