My academic success at Rutherford Early College High School has been my life's greatest achievement. Over the last four years, I have taken and excelled in the most challenging classes offered at Isothermal Community College, and I will be graduating in May with my high school diploma, my Associate of Science degree, and my Associate of Arts degree. At only eighteen years old, I feel that this is a significant accomplishment that has given me a head start on completing my college education and pursuing a career.

Although I am not yet certain about the specific career I want to pursue, I am currently planning to major in chemistry, and I have a good idea of what my dream profession might look like. As a highly ambitious and results-driven person, I hope to work in a profession that will give …show more content…
I have always been capable of conducting formal, professional conversations with my professors and academic advisers and I have always managed to succeed in my oral presentations in my school courses, but these things have never come easily or naturally. However, throughout my four years in high school and community college, I have forced myself to step outside of my comfort zone in various ways in order to improve my conversational and public speaking skills. At the end of my sophomore year, I joined Isothermal Community College's newly formed debate team. Although sharing my ideas and arguments with my fellow team members and giving speeches in front of a group of people during meetings made me very uncomfortable, I persevered through these exercises and refused to allow my fears to prevent me from accomplishing my goals. As a result, I have learned to verbally express my ideas much more clearly and have become a much more confident public speaker. My decision to push myself to leave my comfort zone and overcome my fears in order to better myself as a person is something I am most proud of in my

...come from all around the world with zero experience of working together on any projects. Although each member tries to inform other members how they are doing by sending emails, it is a sad truth that not everyone will read the emails and be interested in how their colleagues are doing. Everyone just work on their own, making the team a collection of individuals rather than a real group. Without a channel to communicate with each other, it is hard to develop a sense of unity. The frequently organized business trips and the multiple projects at once also show that there is a miscommunication between the secretary and other members. Moreover, there is no standard of excellence to regulate and guide the performance of the employees. Team accomplishment is not being recognized as well. Members thus cannot find the value of performing to the utmost and are frustrated with the heavy workload. Given the above situation, the leader seems doing nothing to handle the stressful circumstances. Base on the analysis of team effectiveness, Jim should intervene at this time at internal level, focusing on relational actions. Building team relationship for a virtual team is even more important than collocated team. As they are working across time and space together with a need of dependence, the most critical aspect to enhance team efficiency is to focus on the collaboration between members. With a sense of unity as well as the belief that individual’s performance can affect the progress of the...

Education in America

...Adedayo Ojo ENGL 1301 November 20, 2012 Education in America Education has been a prolific part of the United States of America and every other country alike. For a country to maintain vigorous economic growth and advance in technology, it has to have a respectable academic system, and the United States has done magnificently well in those areas. The country has produced many scholars with in-depth knowledge in science, technology, and criminal law, with reputable teaches that help students achieve those educational feat. But what we have seen in the last few years is that the United States has drastically dropped among countries with great students in mathematics and science. The task of fixing the education and creating prodigious professionals as it once used to be is not only the responsibility of government, and parents, but also an obligation to the students. Education has played a significant role in the achievement of the United States in its short but illustrious history. The government acknowledges the importance of high standard academic by providing schools with nice facilities, competent teachers, and grants. But most students of this generation, however, have mismanaged those opportunity. They believe that college is not an obligation, and they do not have to work hard for good grades in school; perhaps because they are not the one paying for it. Some people even consider education to be discriminatory. For example, some believe that people should be able...

Nursing Degree Competence

...There are varied avenues of academic development that prospective nursing students can select from when contemplating entering into the field. The two most frequently achieved pathways in nursing education for an entrance position, is an associate’s degree or a bachelor’s degree in nursing. A survey organized by the Health Resources and Services Administration in 2008, demonstrated that fifty percent of nurses retained a bachelors degree or higher and that at least thirty-six percent received an associate’s degree ("Fact sheet: Creating," 2012). However, the variance between the degree levels statistically is not the only differentiating consideration. The primary disparities among an associates and bachelors degree in nursing are curriculum based, patient outcome related, administrative preparation and opportunity. Presently, either approach to nursing study is an acceptable path to establish a career in the discipline; however the education levels differ considerably in these particular areas of concentration. An associate degree program in nursing serves to instruct pupils on fundamental nursing skills, in comparison, a bachelor degree is focused on progressive courses of research and nursing principles. The associate level is two years in length and based regularly at community colleges; as a result graduates are able to execute a transition to the workforce more promptly. A prerequisite of general studies is required to obtain acceptance to a nursing program at this...

First Generation Studetns

...Katrina Klein Sean C. Bird The Washburn Experience 9 March, 2015 First-Generation Students Many of the first-generation students do not know the advantages they have about being a first-generation student and how to accomplish their goals but with all advantages there is always disadvantages. What exactly is a first generation student? According to the College Board “First-generation students can come from families with low incomes or from middle or higher-income families without a college education. Some have parents who support their plans for higher education while others are under family pressure to enter the workforce right after high school.” (College Board). Most of these students don’t know much about college and many only know the disadvantages. As a first-generation student one has the ultimate challenge being the first one to pursue a college education. Many of the students are older, married, have children, employed, attend college less than full time, and are less involved in college activities but these students are able to function and thrive in two opposite worlds which is a skill that most second-generation students do not have. There are many advantages of being a first-generation student it gives one more freedom than restrictions. Most second-generation students can’t choose their school or study a field they are truly interested in, because their parents are funding their education and want to make the decision for them but as a first-generation...
