I failed to include a detailed response on how I will improve my academic writing this semester in my academic writing improvement plan. When reading the feedback I discovered how my writing was limited and how I was not providing adequate information, I decided to use this feedback from my tutor and progress through the semester on improving my paragraph structure and apposite information. This semester I have edited my writing multiple times and this has allowed me to discover mishaps that I turned s blind eye to. In comparison to the feedback I received on the second assessment, it was evident that my writing had improved quite a lot and was of a higher standard.

Reflection on Personal Skills Development

...I managed to develop my academic and personal skills both as an independent learner, but also as a member of formal or informal groups. Having been assigned tasks such as literature reviews, research essays or reflective essays, all of them involving either an oral or written presentation, I employed a range of skills that could not have found a better environment to develop in; critical thinking, working with others and time management are just few examples. Aside from measuring our ability and understanding of the assigned task, evaluation allows us to progress on things we are performing well on and adjust our weaknesses. According to Marshall and Rowland (1998), evaluation can be performed by ourselves, assessing and judging our work in a subjective manner or by others. However, the drawback of being our own assessors is the risk of being accused of bias. Therefore, acknowledging the feedback received on my work has been a significant factor for the development of my skills. It not only helped me better identify my strengths and weaknesses, but also gave me self-confidence and enthusiasm, two key factors for a continual improvement of one's self. The module I have undertaken in the second term, Personal Skills for Business Management Students, has undoubtedly drawn my attention to some of my weak points, such as note taking strategies and paraphrasing, and helped me improve them, as well as acknowledge the importance of developing a workload plan for each assessment. Even...

Academic Literacy Evaluation Essay

...My initial plan to improve my academic literacy was unfortunately not as successful as I had hoped. I had initially planned to add resource sheets on spelling, grammar, vocabulary and punctuation to my weekly readings but found these more helpful as a printed document that I initially skimmed over and was able to refer back to as needed. The resources for writing strong essays are another that I have printed and put into a folder for future reference along with a copy of the key principles. I do feel, however the more essay’s and assessments I write and the more feedback I get over the next few years will be vital in my essay and assessment writing improvement. The paper rater and the writers diet websites have become an essential part...

What Is Your Plan

...areas do you plan to work on, and why? The areas I plan to work on are the following: writing, library skills, strategic reading, critical thinking and maintaining academic progress. These are the areas in which I feel I need the most improvement because I have been in the IT field for over 30 years. Since I have been in the IT field so long, my writing and research is in a technical format, which has caused me to lose the skills listed above. In this technological environment, communication tends to be short and to the point, referred to as “techie,” there is very limited elaboration done. My technical writing is far away from the APA style. I am at the point in my career that I need to speak and write in both styles, Technical and APA to advance my career. The following are a few of the requirements for me to achieve a promotion: • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Effective communicator, presenter, and negotiator. • Ability to work closely with customers and suppliers, defining expectations and mutual responsibilities. I am confident that if I am successful with my plan I will achieve my goals. What resource or resources do you plan to use and how will you use the resources? Be specific: Describe why you think a particular resource will be useful, provide an example of how and when you plan to use it, and discuss how you will apply what you gain from it to your academic work. I plan to use the...

...Writing 101: My Trials and Tribulations Writing 101 As my first English college course nears its end, I can’t help but be proud of the minor yet significant improvements I have made throughout the last eight weeks. I enrolled in WRTG 101S to meet my general education requirements, but also to refresh my reading and writing skills, as it provides the foundation for most other college courses. When I began WRTG 101S, I was uneasy with the quality of my research, formatting, and writing; now I am confident in my ability to produce well-written literature. Over the past eight weeks, I have learned much about the writing process and the importance of prewriting, writing, and revising to ensure a quality end product. Since being introduced to college writing and the writing process during a conference assignment in week one, I have applied these skills to all of my writing projects, which have yielded successful results. These steps allow me to progress through any writing assignment in an organized and efficient manner. This process was especially helpful in the cause and effect essay. This was the first essay I had completed in 10 years, since graduating high school. I was very anxious and nervous about the assignment since I had not written academic pieces in quite some time. Honestly, I still become anxious when approached with any type of writing assignment. This is due to my desire to excel in all that I encounter. I now, however, feel more at ease in knowing that I have specific...

...CHAPTER DEVELOPING AN EVALUATION PLAN 4 As program staff start planning for program development and begin addressing the components of the logic model, they should keep in mind that as the logic model takes shape, the development of evaluation plans will follow soon after. The logic model can act as a guide to assist you in determining when your evaluation plan should be developed. As you identify the accomplishments and outcomes in your logic model, the next question to ask yourself is, “How will I determine if I met my accomplishments and reached the outcomes I identified?” The evaluation plan will provide a framework for why the evaluation is to be conducted, what is to be evaluated, and how the evaluation will be conducted. After you have assessed the community needs and determined what services/activities will be implemented to address those needs, the evaluation plan is the next step in your planning process. Empowerment Evaluation Before learning how to develop an evaluation plan, it is important to look at the purpose of conducting a program evaluation and understand the type of evaluation models available. This section of the chapter introduces the empowerment evaluation model and the benefits of using this model for program development and improvement. Gutierrez (1994) defines empowerment as the “process of increasing personal, interpersonal, or political power so that individuals, families, and communities can take action to improve their situations” (p. 202)...

Persuasive Essay

...Personal Responsibility What is personal responsibility? What is its role in making a college student successful? Even though there are strategies out there to help someone overcome the lack of personal responsibility, I believe it is very important to be responsible while trying to be an academic success because failing to turn in assignments can cause lower grades, and not taking the initiative can cause you to miss important information. Failing to properly manage your time can also play a role in whether or not you are successful as a student. Personal responsibility plays a key role in whether or not a student in academically successful, but first we have to define what personal responsibility is. It has many different definitions; such as being mature, accountable, and trustworthy. Being mature is part of being responsible because without it you may make one sided decisions or be very impulsive. For instance when young teenagers think they are invincible. Second, being accountable is part of personal responsibility because when a person can’t be held accountable for his or her actions people tend to lose trust which brings me to the last definition. Having peoples trust is a key factor of personal responsibility because if someone doesn’t trust you then they don’t think you are responsible enough to handle the situation, material, or information that they hold. These are a few reasons why personal responsibility plays a huge role in whether or not a person is academically...

... The purpose of this PDP module is helping people gain the personal, academic, reflective and professional skills. In this report, I am going to reflect on what I have learnt and I need to improve. In academic area my strongest skills are note-taking, referencing and information skills. However, in presentation skills, academic writing and learning skills are the area that I still need improving. In career-related skills, I am good at self-management, adaptability and team-working. On contrary, I still need to learn how to manage time efficiently, budgeting and communication well. 2. Academic skills Three strongest skills: * Note-making. By taking e-lesson from PDP, I know how to do note-making effectively last term and keep practice during this study period. In terms of me, I need to point out the key words from the messy information and then focus and re-organize the key words to the pattern that I am familiar with. Finally, I need to revise it and concise it times and times again to make a higher and more depth understanding of my notes. After I tried again and again, I realized that I can revise quiet easy by focusing on the main parts teacher referred in class. As note-making is pretty useful, I use it almost every day and now I can make notes quickly and precisely, which plays a vital part in my university study. * Referencing Referencing, this can be seen as a basis of academic writing (Neville, C. 2012). During term two periods, we had many assignments...

...What is the purpose of this guide? The purpose of this guide is to help academic units develop and/or improve the process of assessing student learning. Why is assessment of student learning important? In effect there are two reasons assessment of student learning is important. Assessment is needed for improvement. Improvement, with its internal focus provides • opportunities for the academic community to engage in self-reflection of its learning goals, to determine the degree to which these goals correspond to student and societal needs, and to evaluate if students’ activities, products, or performances coincide with the academic community’s expectations; • offers information to students about the knowledge, skills, and other attributes they can expect to possess after successfully completing coursework and academic programs. • establishes ways for academic units to understand the dimensions of student learning when seeking to improve student achievement and the educational process. Assessment is needed for accountability. Accountability, with its external focus, provides Step One: Identify Goals A goal is a statement expressing what ideals are to be achieved. Goal statements tend to be broadly philosophical, global, timeless and not readily amenable to measurement. They capture the knowledge, skills, and values that students should acquire in a program by a course. This first step in identifying goals requires faculty and others to reflect on questions such...
