Week 3 Team Reflection
The issuance of different stocks by corporations is a topic that we are getting a better understanding of through reading the text and studying the Wiley plus texts. Authorized stock is the amount of stock that a corporation is authorized to sell as indicated in its charter, and within that broad spectrum are many different kinds of stock that the corporation can chose to sell. Examples of those stocks are par-value stock and no-par value stock. A par value stock is capital stock that has been assigned a value per share in the corporate charter, and a no par value stock is stock that has not been given a value. Preferred stock is capital stock that has some contractual preferences over common stock. With regards to the name “preferred”, it means that the corporation gives an unsecured dividend and does not have to pay that dividend back, however preferred stockholders have to be paid dividends before common stock holders.
Public corporations issue various forms of stock to meet specific internal requirements and to satisfy public demand. From initial public and secondary offerings to different classes of stock, companies access the public markets to raise funds for expansion and debt repayment, as well as to allow original investors and owners to cash out and diversify their portfolios. Each of the different types of stock represents a form of ownership.
Common stock is the most common and entitles shareholders to dividends when applicable and voting rights for the board. Common stock takes a lower priority than corporate bonds, preferred shares, and company creditors. Preferred stock conveys ownership and takes priority over common stock if a company must liquidate or declares bankruptcy.

Weekly Refleciton

...Week Four Reflection xxxxxxx Acc/291 xxxx xxx Week Four Reflection This week’s consensus is overwhelmingly a feeling of clarity as compared to last week. Our team feels much more comfortable with statements of cash flows and financial statement analysis than with dividends, bonds, etc. The following are individual reflections on what we learned during week four. I think this week was easier for me than others because of the simplicity behind the terms. The statements of cash flows include operating activities, investing activities and financing activities. Operating activities include cash flow from business operations, things like sales. Investing activities includes assets, and financing activities include stockholders equity. We learned about direct and indirect cash flows this week. Indirect cash flows are the most commonly used by business and consist of three major steps: (1) determine net cash, (2) figure changes in asset and liability accounts, and (3) compare the figures on the statement of cash flows to the balance sheet. The second topic of this week was in regards to financial statement analysis. What this means is using financial statements in three different ways of comparison. The three ways are intracompany, industry and intercompany. The analysis of financial statements can be viewed horizontally, vertically or with ratios. Horizontally refers to over course of time, vertically refers to the change in figures, the difference between current and base...

(Round cost per mile to 2 decimal places, e.g. 10.50. Use rounded amount for future calculations. Round final answers to 0 decimal places, e.g. 125.) Assume that Brainiac uses the straight-line method. (1) Prepare the journal entry to record 2011 depreciation. (2) Show how the truck would be reported in the December 31, 2011, balance sheet. Week 5 Ratio Analysis Memo

...Week 5 Ratio Analysis Memo ACC/291 Kudler Foods Memo To: CEO-Kudler Foods. From: Team B Date: August 22, 2011 This memo is in regard to a recent horizontal and vertical analysis performed on Kudler Foods. The analysis completed was to inform the company of potential interests from different users. The users will be able to use ratios calculated to reveal performance and the current position of the company. The vertical and horizontal analysis is attached along with calculations of liquidity, profitability, and solvency ratios. The liquidity, profitability, and solvency ratios allow users to identify the financial health of Kudler Foods. The liquidity ratios include the current ratio, acid-test ratio, and inventory turnover. Kudler Fine Foods has no accounts receivables so there was no need for a receivables turnover calculation. The liquidity ratios show that the amount of liquid assets is high in comparison to the industry average. This means that Kudler Foods has assets that can be converted to cash very quickly. Creditors would look at these calculations and be appeased by the ability Kudler Foods has to pay their short-term liabilities. The profitability ratios calculations included asset turnover, profit margin, return on assets, and return on common stock-holder equity. The ratios calculated show by use of profitability ratios the company financial position is worrisome. This is said because ROA is low. When ROA is low then the company is using less money on...

Information System Literature Review

...Information System Literature Review Team A University of Phoenix Information System Literature Review Paper Over the last 10-15 years, the gaming industry has come an extraordinary long ways in development and growth. This particular industry continues to grow and improve from year to year. The newest generations have come from board games, to video games, and finally computer games. The computer games have developed from two dimensional (2-D), three dimensional (3-D), and virtual environments. Gamers get to experience revolutionary virtual realities known as massive multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPG). To understand the growth into MMORPG’s, a game developer must research the history, theory, some negative implementations, and contemporary best practices of networking, the opportunities, and innovation with the field of MMORPG’s. Historical development of the field The first computer game produced was 2-D in 1962 (Thomson, 2008). This was just a simple game where two players controlled his or her spaceship and attempted to destroy the opposing player. This was the lead into an ever-evolving world of gaming. The gaming industry has evolved into virtual world environments. This type of gaming has unleashed a world where players create an avatar in which can look anyway they want. This has allowed the gamers of today a way to communicate in a new way. It has even gone as far as allowing people a new way of learning (Barnett, 2010). Colleges are...

...IFRS: FASB and IASB Fair value measurements provide users of financial statements with an accurate picture of the value of a company’s assets. Both IFRS and GAAP require firms to include information regarding fair value measurement practices in the notes of financial statements. Under either system, companies will be required to report assets at either book value or fair value, depending on the situation. As a general rule of thumb, all assets in the same class must receive the same valuation treatment. In regards to the value of receivables, IRFS uses a two- tiered method that first analyzes individual receivables, and then looks at receivables as whole to determine if there is any impairment. Basic accounting and reporting issues related to recognition and measurement of receivables, allowance accounts, recording discounts, the allowance method to account for bad debt and factoring are pretty much all the same between GAAP and IFRS. However, IASB (International Accounting Standards Board) and FASB (Financial Accounting Standards Board) are taking steps by working to implement fair value measurement, the amount they currently could be sold for, for financial instruments. The FASB and IASB are facing opposition from various factors thus have adopted a piecemeal approach. Step one is to disclose the fair value information in the notes, and second step is the fair market option which permits companies to record some type of financial instrument at fair value in financial statements...

Heart Failure

...Heart Failure Western Governors University Pathopharmacological Foundations for Advanced Nursing Practice Heart Failure It is estimated that about five million people in the United States are living with heart failure with an overwhelming number of 550,000 newly diagnosed cases each year, costing the nation roughly $32 billion dollars per year (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2016). Heart failure is a complex, pathophysiological condition in which the ventricles of the heart is weakened and unable to pump effectively to meet the body’s needs for nutrients or has lost adequate filling capacity. Clinical presentations of heart failure depends on which ventricles have failed to pump blood adequately; left ventricular failure, also known as congestive heart failure (CHF) is more common than right ventricular failure (McCance & Huether, 2014). The most common symptoms of heart failure are shortness of breath, fatigue, and peripheral edema. HF is not a disease, but rather a manifestation of a diseased heart. Large number of disorders can lead to heart failure, and with the aging population and many surviving primary cardiac events, it is no surprise that the most common reason for hospitalization in patients older than 65 years old is heart failure (McClintock, Mose, & Smith, 2014). Heart failure has become a major public health problem because it is the only cardiac condition that continues to increase in prevalence (McClintock, Mose, & Smith, 2014)...
