Part 1: Answer the Module Review Questions listed below. These questions were chosen to demonstrate your understanding and help you assess your progress. 1. How might cultural, political, or geo-economics challenges affect a global company’s use of the Internet? Give several examples.
Geo-economics challenges include the physical distance between the consumer and provider, time zones, telephone connectivity, exchange rates and cost of living in different regions and countries. A company has to adapt and accommodate to the differences in time zones by providing 24/7 customer support or providing international shipping.
Cultural challenges are language, cultural and religious differences, as well as social attitudes that differ the work styles and business relationships of people. This may force a company to hire employees that are more accustomed to these cultural or lingual differences and set them up as a point of contact, for example, as customer support.
Political challenges encompass rules, regulations and laws that govern different regions and countries, along with tax laws and restrictions. Different countries and/or regions might prohibit importing of certain products. This restriction may be an inconvenience to a company because it disrupts their potential sales. 2. Will the increasing use of the Internet by firms with global business operations change their move toward a transnational business strategy? Explain.
Definitely. All current businesses are constantly changing their strategies to include the use of the Internet in order to expand transnationally. As other companies start to extend their products offerings globally through the Internet, other companies will be forced to do the same to maintain a competitive advantage. 3.
