Commercial Campaign Review Project

Commercials are created to get a company’s product recognized for present or future use. They’re many different kinds of commercials, some are created to make you hungry, help with pain, offer healthier food for your dogs, and especially to make your kids beg you for toys they see on the television. Commercials are the most effective marketing technique as far as getting a product recognized and publicly known. I personally love funny commercials and the ones I have decided to talk about have made me laugh and have left an impression in my mind of their products. The first commercial I am reviewing looks like it takes place in 1950’s, it edgy, different and funny. Progressive Insurance commercials have had a few funny ad campaigns, and this one is no different. Taking place in a time when women were the ‘stay at home moms’ and the fathers were the breadwinners, this commercial takes it another step and criticizes a women who’s trying to take matters in her own hands by price checking other companies to try and save money. As she talks a Man keeps interrupting her as to why she isn’t cooking or taking care of the kids, while she tries to put him in his place, the commercial ends with the man asking where her husband was? I didn’t grow up in the 50’s, so I could see how an older generation could be affected by this Ad. However I was not, it’s a witty commercial that makes me think about how things use to be. Progressive is a huge corporate company that sells every kind of insurance there pretty much is, such as auto, home, renters, motorcycle, R.V and even boat insurance. As a billion dollar company they can afford lavish and entertaining television commercials to entice anyone to use their company. From the college student using them for their inexpensive car insurance and renters insurance for their apartment, to a millionaire using them as their homeowner’s insurer on their mansion and boat insurance on their yacht. They appeal to anyone over the age of 18 to insure their property because you have to have an insurance company legally, so why not the best and least expensive company? But is progressive really the cheapest? Not only will they tell you they may not, but they will show you what your rates would be with other companies. I believe they are taking an unusual approach, yes this will bring more people to their site but will it help or hurt their sales if they are not the cheapest? Will people use them just because they feel like they are an honest company? I also reviewed a comical Turbo Tax commercial, I feel like they did a good job to point out how easy using their tax program really is. Using very intelligent people in their ad campaigns that are not necessarily needed because the program is apparently very easy to use. They have what seem to be dimwitted people attempting to do their taxes through the Turbo Tax app for your cell, then a simple question pops up such as did you buy a house in 2015? And the genius will just tell him to click right there if he did indeed buy a house. Most Americans over the age of 18 pay taxes, or file their taxes so Turbo Tax is taking big strides to be the easiest, fastest and most convenient tax preparation service out there. They have a snapshot option so all you have to do is take a picture of your W2 and it fills all the info in for you, then you simply answer a few questions such as ‘do you have children?’ and you’re done! Turbo tax has run an excellent Advertising campaign this year, all their commercials tie in together and they all show you a different feature that Turbo Tax offers. Everyone needs to have their taxes done, it’s just a matter of if your comfortable paying a place like Jackson Hewitt where you have to sit there across from a tax preparation expert and then pay $200 to have them fill out questions about you, or if you want to sit at the comfort of your home, in your underwear if you wish and fill in the 10 lines and answer the 20 questions yourself and pay $0 for federal, and $35 for state taxes. I have personally used turbo tax the past 7 years and they import all my information every year which cuts down dramatically on how long it takes to complete. This year it took me 10 mins to do my taxes and $36. This literally appeals to everyone who needs taxes done. Thirdly, another commercial I am reviewing is a new commercial that actually airs on T.V this super bowl. It has widely known comedian Kevin Hart in it where he plays a father who spies on his daughters date, he lets his daughters date take his new Hyundai Genesis car which offers car locator and many other new features, which will make it easier for Kevin Hart to spy on them. He pulls a lot of James Bond moves out, such hanging from a helicopter while his daughter and date are parked in the car about to kiss. I’m sure after this commercial airs, this car is going to blow up the auto industry, everyone who can afford a $30,000 car and is in the market for a sedan, will love this. Hyundai use to make me think about being a cheaper alternative to a Honda or Toyota, but they have stepped their game up and I feel have surpassed Honda and Toyota’s. With great gas mileage and comfortability, the Hyundai Genesis would be a good buy for anyone whether you live in the city or in a rural suburb. Everyone loves chocolate right? Well I do, and I chose the always amusing M&M commercial, where oddly enough a women looks like she’s cheating on her husband, when the man walks in and notices someone under the covers with his wife he tears off the blankets and you have this huge, delicious ball of chocolate in bed. Chocolate commercials affect me, because they make me crave it until I break down and stop at the gas station. I’m not sure if kids 12 and under really are affected by chocolate commercials in that way, I thinks it’s more of a see it at the store while checking out and have-to have it. Lastly I reviewed an entertaining Dorito’s commercial, named Goat for sale. It’s about this goat, who a man has as a pet, well apparently this goat loves Dorito’s as much as the man does because he eats 40 bags in one day. The man has all his cabinets full of Dorito’s, when the goat wakes up to find all the Dorito’s gone and his owner is in the room making a sign ‘Goat for sale’ with all the bags of Dorito’s, then the goat proceeds to shut the door to beat up his owner and take his chips back. Everyone I’ve ever met likes Dorito’s, whether for a football party, snacking or a group of friends hanging out playing video games most people of any age enjoy them, however I do believe they are aimed toward the younger teenagers/college kids who will eat half a bag in one sitting. Television and computer ad campaigns come in all varieties. Whether they are sad, funny or serious they all have a point and purpose, while some don’t make all that much sense and fail to get their point across, television ad campaigns are still the best marketing and advertising techniques to get the product recognized world-wide.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY In mid 2011 Roger David released an advertisement for their new clothing line “New Love Club” through an email campaign to their existing customer base.
