POST GRADUATE PROGRAM – 16

INDIAN INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT

KOZHIKODE

COURSE COMPLETION CERTIFICATE

Q – My college will not issue the course completion in the format issued by IIMK. What can I send instead?

A – You may send a letter from your college with the following points. Please note that it must have the required college seal and signature of the Principal or the Head of Department

• You are currently a student of the institute

• You have registered to take the required examinations

• The tentative date of declaration of results.

Q – I have the mark sheets of all the semesters, and the course completion certificate but have not obtained a provisional certificate. Will this suffice?

A – Yes.

Q – I have submitted the original course completion certificate along with my registration form. I will not receive my mark sheet before joining. Do I need to carry a second course completion certificate along with me?

A – If you are a fresher and will get your marks sheet only after the joining date, you will have to carry a course completion certificate, duly signed, with you at the time of registration. If you have a copy of the one you have submitted earlier, that would do. If you have not kept a copy, you'll have to get another one issued from your college.

Q – I have received my graduation certificate. Do I need to obtain a course completion certificate?

A) No, the course completion certificate is only required if you are yet to receive your graduation certificate.

EXPERIENCE CERTIFICATE

Q – What are the certificates that one needs to carry related to Work Experience?

A – Appointment/relieving/ experience letters on the company's official letter heads will be required. In case you are unable to get any of these three documents then payslips will also be considered. In all cases hard copies are required. Exceptions are made in case of work-ex achievements. In case of achievements, it may not be possible for your experience letter to mention all these details. Hence we accept e-mails from official company ids as well.

Q – My company will not be able to give me experience letter soon. What should I do in that case?

A – If your company cannot issue an experience certificate, you can get pay slips for the months you have worked in the company. Pay slips would suffice for time being till the time you get your official experience certificate.

FEE STRUCTURE

Q - What is the fee structure for PGP program at IIM K?

A – Last year’s fee structure is subject to change since IIM K has reduced its fees by Rs 30,000.

Q – Can we avail loan facilities on campus?

A – Yes. Regarding loans for paying the fee, every year MADCOM (Merchandising and Designing Committee) ( http://madcom.iimklive.com/) arranges for bulk loan deals with banks at attractive interest rates, no collateral. However, the deal takes place only after the term starts so the initial fee has to be borne by the student.

Q – How much would be the initial fee and would I be reimbursed the fees?

A – The initial amount last year as well as this year is Rs 50000/-. Arranging this initial amount should be fairly easy since on production of the offer letter from IIMs, banks rarely refuse loans. Once the MADCOM deal is through you will be reimbursed that amount and can close the loan from the outside bank.

Q – How do I decide the bank from which I can take the loan?

A – Every year many banks come on campus and give a presentation giving details of the loan offers. After attending the presentations, the batch is allowed to vote for banks which they would opt for and banks are selected thereafter. Last year the rule was that if 70% of the students voted for one bank that would get selected. If no bank gets 70% or above votes, multiple banks are allowed to offer loans.

Q – What documents are required while availing loan from campus?

A – Documents required during loan process are:

a) IIM K Offer Letter

b) A Photo ID proof

c) Permanent Address Proof

In case students want to avail certain interest rate waivers, they would have to get the family income certificate for the last financial year.

INFORMALS AND SANGAM

Q – What are Informals and Sangam?

A – As the name suggests, Informals are casual gatherings with the present students at IIM K at popular joints like CCD etc. where you can get your doubts cleared regarding life at and after K.

Sangam is an event wherein the prospective students are given a chance to meet the alumni from IIM K many of whom are now in top management position in various industries. With a rich exchange of ideas and learning at a common place, Sangam is one of the most cherished and unique experiences that an IIM student can have before actually joining an IIM. And yes, it is an exclusive IIM Kozhikode initiative.

Q – When and where are Sangam and Informals held?

A – Informals would be held on May 12th, 2012 across various cities. Sangam is planned on May 26th this year at various reputed hotels across 7 different cities. . Informals are generally planned before Sangam so that students know each other better.

Q – Do we need to carry anything when you come to attend Sangam?

A – Yes. A copy of offer letter is necessary.

LAPTOP DEAL

Q – How do I order the laptop? What are its specs? What was the price & spec of the last year's model?
A – The exact process to order the laptop, specs and all other details shall be conveyed in due course of time by MADCOM, since the process is still on. You will be notified on this google group (and FB) and will have sufficient time to order the laptop. The deal has two rounds - the orders can be placed in either of the rounds. The rounds differ in order deadlines, delivery timelines, and payment modalities. Ordering the laptops in the first round is recommended. Knowing last year's model & price would not be indicative of this year's deal, since the computer hardware market is extremely dynamic - both spec & price wise.
Q – How do I pay for the laptop? Will it be covered under my educational loan?
A – The payment modalities will be conveyed in due course of time (most probably through DD). The laptop expense is covered under the educational loan (Students opting for getting the laptop through loan would invariably be in the second round of orders)
Q – When & where will the laptop be delivered?
A – The laptops from the first round should be delivered a week after the commencement of the academic session on the respective IIM campus. The second round orders will be delayed correspondingly. However, MADCOM will try on a best effort basis to expedite the process for the second round orders also.
Q – What will happen if I order a laptop while I am at IIM X and then there is waitlist movement and I go to another IIM Y?
A – We are factoring this in the process, and will be talking with the Company to change the shipment destination to your new IIM even after the order is placed. However, this will depend on multiple factors - the time when you inform us, whether the shipment has already been dispatched or not etc. Since the process is coordinated across the major IIMs, the Pan-IIM Deal Team will try to arrange this on a best effort basis, but will not be in a position to commit.

Q – Can I buy multiple laptops/net-books/combos for my family/friends etc?
A – Yes, you can buy any number of laptops/net-books etc. However, please note that the educational loan will cover only one laptop. Also, the order will be delivered to your campus, and the payment modalities will be at the campus. We will not be in a position to accommodate any request to deliver the Laptop/collect payment at any other location other than the campus.
Q – Are there any other hardware/software deals being arranged?
A – As of now, the Laptop Deal is the only deal that the Deal Team is working on. However, if there is any other requisite hardware/software that is deemed necessary for the academic purpose, the Deal Team would try to arrange the same.
Q – Can we use our old laptops?
A – Yes, you can use your old laptops. Any laptop with decent specs would do the job (Vista/Windows7 compatible laptops are recommended).
Q – Are MACs available through this deal?
A – No, at present MACs are not part of the deal; but if there is a sizable demand then we will look into it.
Q – Is there any restriction on OS? As in are there any OS specific software that are used?
A – No, there is no restriction on OS; you can use Windows, Linux, MAC whatever you want. Yes, there are some software like SPSS, I-think etc that are used (but their non-windows compatible versions are also available with the students).

Q – Would a net-book suffice for the 2 years?
A – Yes, a net-book would suffice all the academic purposes (in fact it is easier to carry/handle a net-book in the classrooms/campus rather than carrying the 14/15 inch laptops). But many people prefer a bigger screen for other stuff like movies, games etc. So it’s totally your call. [Many on campus are using the net-book as a complement to their laptops]

Q – How do you get the membership of such groups?

A – Students who are interested are given an introductory session by each IG/Club/Committee.
