Female Portrayal in the Media

...Women and the Media Samantha Heintzelman Sociology 150-04 October 9, 2014 Women and the Media Abstract: How are young women affected by how the media portrays them? Though there are many articles today in magazines preaching about being body positive; there are still many publications that portray a certain “look” to their models. Long eyelashes, plump lips, messy but still cute hair, thin, and with bigger breasts is the image of the Victoria Secret models that show women that in order to be looked at as “beautiful” or “sexy” you must look like those “perfect” models. I hypothesize that young women are negatively affected by these images of women in the media. Through experiment this proposal will show that even though there are many articles about being body positive the images of the “perfect” looking women will still poorly affect how the women view themselves and will make them strive for an unrealistic perfection. Women and the Media Introduction: Many studies have shown that I women magazines there are more weight loss ads and that women have a harder time dealing with body image than men. Research has also shown that more and more women at a younger age are worried about their weight, and try something whether it be healthy dieting or an eating disorder to try and reach their “ideal” weight. Though all this research is accurate and well put together it still does not answer the question ‘why women who read articles about body positivism still feel negatively...

Veronica said that per her training, she was to report the occurrence. However, she wasn’t sure who to report to at the time. Veronica eventually told her friend, Adriana, who also worked at The Hope School. Veronica asked Adriana what she should do and Adriana told her she would get back to her. Critical Thinking Application Paper

...Critical Thinking Application Paper Whatever we are doing right now is decided by the way we are thinking. Whatever we feel (emotions) are decided by what we are thinking. Whatever we want (desires) are decided by our thinking. For many people who think unrealistic the ending results could end up in disappoint for them. There are countless routes to express the ideas of critical thinking, at the same time as there are numerous ways to express the definition of any abounding and substantive idea. Yet, as with any idea, there is a core to critical thinking that cannot be ignored. Intellectual origins of critical thinking are as early as its study, visible eventually, to the philosophical procedure and foresight of Socrates 2,500 years ago who exposed by a method of questioning the idea that people could not reasonably justify their confident claims to knowledge. Paul R., Elder L. & Bartell T (1997) Petress describes the importance of critical thinking, declaring that”…critical thinking examines assumptions, discerns hidden values, evaluates evidence and assesses conclusions.” ([5] Petress, 1984). [6] Critical thinking enables individuals with the ability to comprehend what they have been shown or read, as well to develop that insight without increased guidance. Understanding critical thinking enables individuals with knowledge that is smooth and constructed upon itself. Critical thinking is not simply routine learning or the skill to soak up information. The importance...

Midnight in Paris

...Frank Vargas Professor Beverly Whitson English 52 24 March 2014 The Era We Live In What’s one of the worst parts about living life? It can be not being able to find that one true love in life, or even living with regret in your heart. I always hear conversations about people being together with a person they don’t love, or people talking about something they wish they could have done when they had the chance, but were too concerned about another factor in their lives, now having to live life full of regrets. Like Gil Pender says, “That’s just the era we line in…” In the 2011 film, Midnight In Paris, written and directed by Woody Allen, tells the story of Gil Pender’s, played by Owen Wilson, longing for self-fulfillment and his love for historical 1920’s Paris, France. The film also stars veteran actress, Rachael McAdams, playing Gil’s significant other, Inez. The film starts off with Gil and Inez, two engaged Americans in modern Paris having a little vacation. On a lonesome late night stroll, Gil finds himself lost in the backstreets of Paris and sees an old car from the 20’s drive up to him with open doors. Ready for an adventure in Paris he decides to get into the vehicle. Little does he know that he just stepped into a time portal transporting Gil back to the wonderful times of 1920’s Paris. Confused and full of awe, he assures himself that, “He was born too late.” While trying to figure out where he is, he runs into another young American couple, Zelda and Scott Fitzgerald...

Midnight In Our Town

...when dead, these actions and chores do not exist anymore. Although she learns this lesson, she can not use it to change the way she is living her life because she is already dead. Wilder purposefully does this to, teach the readers how important living in the present is, and to regard life as something wonderful and satisfying. Midnight in Paris teaches the same lesson as Our Town through the character Gil, who travels back to his golden era. Gil accidentally goes to the past, when he enters an antique car at midnight while partially drunk. When he traverses to the past, he meets a beautiful lady, Adriana, whom he starts to fall in love with. During a conversation, Gil finds it odd when Adriana says that the age she would like to go to is Belle Epoque, 1890’s France, the era she finds golden, because she is living in his golden era. Later on in the film, he travels there with Adriana but soon realizes that everyone has a different golden era when hearing two men from that time period saying they would love to live during the Renaissance. In the beginning of the movie, he does not realize that the members of a certain generation do not find it satisfying, because it is everyday life for them and they want something that happened in the past, a time they think is interesting and fun. It is exactly how Gil thinks of his current time period, boring, saying he would rather be in 1920’s France walking in the rain. Towards the end of the movie, Gil makes the realization that life should...
