There are lots of advantages to the social media world. We , I believe have taken for granted the use of social media because of the convenience and the speed of which we can put the internet to work for us. Some of the advantages are the websites such as face book, twitter and you tube, for example. On these sites we can find lost friend or family, we can catch up on what is happening around the world and all the gossip also. It is easy to find and research any and everything with the many search engines we have at our fingertips. Also the greatest advantage I have found is with social media is to call attention to some matters that otherwise may never have gotten any attention whatsoever. With all these advantages also comes the disadvantages of when we are researching for information when also have to verify the sources in which the information is coming from, make sure that the author is creditable and that the information isnt from a source such as wikiencyclopedia, which anyone can write and post information which can be edited and changed by others without having any creditablility at all. I believe also that social media is a disadvantage to the kids these days in ways that, they don’t have to go to a library and actually look and read a book to get the information for say a book report, if they want a phone number they can just google it, never having to actually use their brain to remember the alphabet in the phone book for example. I truly like the internet but also think we need to remember that some of the “old fashioned” way of finding information is the best way to have a true and creditable source at times.

...of defense based companies. The defense industry has companies located in countries all over the world that are vital to mobilization, deployment, and sustainment of military operations (Homeland security, 2014). The defense industry has come under scrutiny, because of its work with the war in Afghanistan, the battles here in the US, and defense spending. These days, people and businesses are influenced by social media, television, peer pressure, and these outlets can change the way a company functions or operates. Despite the best logical responses to certain social pressures, the defense industry actions will not please everyone, but it will provide the most basic sense of security we are all use to. A good example is the F-22 military aircraft was created to revolutionize the way we fight a war, so far the F-22 raptor program consists of 187 aircraft and cost 79 billion dollars($420 million per aircraft), but matched with a cheaper aircrafts in other countries. The larger social media forums such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, even track your internet use based on search engines and provide advertisements specific to your most recent searches. It is inevitable to try to engage even in everyday life without seeing the importance and the power that social media has to reach a diverse group of people. With the growing use of social media it would be impossible to assume that this would not affect business: daily commerce now has different ways of advertising and able to hit different markets all together. As with anything, social media has the power to affect businesses in both a positive and negative manner, however the positive trends seem to be outweighing the negatives. Social media provides companies with a new highly effective form of communication. Both internal and external communication takes on new life, through quick and effective communication. It has never been easier to simply press as button and have confirmation that a message has been sent. In the past, letters, telephone calls and face to face interaction, took on the primary form of communication, but today even email is revived, when you can receive confirmation of when your message has been received and/or read. “For entrepreneurs, social media is already becoming...

Communication and Information Management Assignment

...Management Assignment Communication and Information Management Assignment 1. Mass Media Trends Mass media consists of a large range of diversified media channels that reach a large audience through mass communication. There are seven trends that characterize modern mass media; audience segmentation, convergence, increased audience control, multiple platforms, user-generated content, mobile media, and social media (J.R. Dominick, 2011). I think mobile media has the greatest effect on society because these days people cannot live without their phones. Literally anything and everything one could imagine can be done from a smart phone and because access is so instant, transferable, and continuous, it is changing the way we live, work, and play. Before the outbreak of smart phones, audiences had to physically go to their media source, giving their time and attention in order to receive its messages. Today, people carry their media source everywhere they go and are notified by an alert sound or vibration when something that they have deemed important is available to them. 2. Classifying Mass Communications There are two approaches to classifying mass communications. "The functional approach emphasizes the way that audiences use mass communication and the benefits people receive from media consumption" (J.R. Dominick, 2011). This approach seeks to analyze why people consume the media they do, how they feel about it; positive or negative, and how it can be improved upon....
