Social Justice
Social justice is how we help those in our community, as a teacher our role is to offer the best and fairest education to all of our students, to be fair and model equality in the classroom, all students need to have the same educational opportunities and one student should never feel left out or left behind. “Diversity, equality, and social justice are the foundation for education that is multicultural” (Johnson, Musial, Halle, Gollnick, & Dupuis, 2005).
One issue in the classrooms is that many teachers have limited experience and knowledge about other ethnic and religious groups other than their own. In order to offer the best education to a multicultural classroom a teacher must first educate their selves on different ethnic groups and religions, by doing this the teacher can offer better education to their entire classroom as a whole. As a teacher, I would offer different group projects that would be based on different cultures and religions, by doing this it allows the students to interact with one another and help educate one another on the different cultures.
It is important that children learn at a young age about acceptance and appreciation for others, this can start in a classroom. Having areas of education based on the topic of acceptance is a great way to start, the more that a child understands about other cultures and religions will allow them to except someone for being different than them. In today’s society a classroom is filled with children who are different than one another, whether they are different because of their race, raised poor or rich, raised by a traditional family or a nontraditional family, children need to be taught that these are the things that make them unique in their own
