Hair products, deodorants, toothpastes, male and female cosmetics, dish washing liquids, detergents, floor polishes, oven cleaners, pesticides and insect repellents. These are all products that we have used either today or somewhere in our lives but we are not the first ones that these products were used on. Every second all over the world, 22 animals are killed in laboratories that declare that they are saving humanity by testing various products on animals before they are released into stores for human access.

But is mutilating, beating and enslaving innocent animals really worth the data? Not only are these animals being taken advantage of as they have no voice in the matter but animal testing has proven to be inaccurate. There is no need to test on animals anymore with the improvements in human cell testing. If we were wise enough we would realise this and stop killing millions of innocent animals every year for our own petty uses.

Human subjects are not tested on without their consent yet when it comes to animals; rights go immediately out the window. Animals all over the world that are confined in suffocatingly small labs are deprived of all basic morals. These animals include: mice, rats, birds, sheep, rabbits, amphibians, guinea pigs, dogs, monkeys, pigs, reptiles and cats. All of which are used for testing to determine: how toxic a substance is if swallowed, how irritate a product may be if it gets into the eye or other sensitive part and to determine how toxic a substance would be if sprayed. Millions of animals die each year during testing although the chances are that even more die due to the fact that their deaths don’t technically count. Tests can include: mice inhaling toxic fumes, dogs being force fed pesticides and rabbits having cosmetics rubbed into their eyes. You wouldn’t perform these experiments on your own animals so why let other

For and Against Arguments Animal Testing

...Against: * 1) Animal testing is not the same as human testing : Animal testing and human testing have different effects and results. The reaction of a drug in an animal’s body is quite different from the reaction in a human. * 2) Drug testing on animals causes stress, pain and sometimes death: Animal testing is cruel and sometimes it doesn’t even work. Some of the animals are not even properly anesthetized so, they feel sharp pains and usually die. One example of animal testing is called the Draize test in which the product tested is placed in the animal’s eyes resulting in blindness and death. Another example of animal testing is the LD50 in which huge amounts of a product are put into the animals’ stomachs until they die. In this process they suffer from vomiting, diarrhea, paralysis, convulsion and internal bleeding. * 3) Animal testing is morally wrong: Besides producing suffering and pain, animals being tested generate high levels of depression because of being inside of small cages. It’s a proven fact that most scientists that do animal testing feel guilt and sorrow although they should not become emotionally connected with the animals. * 4) Animal testing is very expensive: Animal testing costs over $136 billion dollars annually for the American public. Animals must be fed, housed, cared and treated with drugs. The tests are very expensive and they may be practiced more than once in short periods of time. * 5) There are many alternatives...

...opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to research through animal testing. The opinions vary and the passion runs deep. Both sides have extremely intelligent people, such as doctors and scientists, that argue vehemently for their opinion. While both sides present equally convincing arguments, there are downsides to each and a compromise must be reached. Many people, such as Dr. Andre Menache, who has campaigned against animal testing for over thirty years, would argue that animal testing is cruel and simply not worth it. According to Menache, “if we rely on animals to predict human response, we will get the right answer only 33% of the time. This figure is based on the correlation between preclinical...

...Animal Testing Horrifying images come to mind when people discuss animal testing: mutations, glow-in-the-dark hair, and death. Since the debate began, those who oppose animal testing often propose alternative methods to replace animals. Activists suggest methods such as in vitro or computer programs. Regardless of these new advances, persisting facts endure proving animals to be useful in multiple scenarios, and animal testing to be ethical despite common belief. Animal testing has proved its usefulness in the past century in numerous ways. Credit is due to animals for the treatment to diabetes, organ transplants, and the polio vaccination (Myers). In fact, the past century attributes every stride in medical advancement to animal experimentation....

...BoWen Zuo Dr. Danielle Bray English 1101 2 March 2015 Pharmaceuticals Should Not Be Tested on Animals Various pharmaceutical companies claim that testing of their products on animals is indispensable because they require a complete living organism in the process of developing pharmaceutical products. Scientific evidences have proven that humans and animals differ with regard to metabolism, physiology, and anatomy (Portaluppi 101). Further evidences point to different reactions to pharmaceuticals and chemicals among animals sourced from different species (van der Worp et al). Consequently, it is impractical to predict the possibility of humans reacting in a similar manner to pharmaceutical products as animals. A study...

...Animal testing is using animals in experiments for educational, commercial or for the purpose of research. For centuries, animal testing have been used in scientific and medical research. Each individual look upon animals in a different way; some consider animals as their mates while others consider animals to be their subordinates which can be used for their own good. Numerous medical research centers use a variety of animals as testing subjects. During animal experimentations, some animals are experimented on to check the reliability of some medication while others are used to gather information about human behaviors in specific conditions. It is also used in testing of medications, medical strategies, consumer products and military weapons....

Arguments Against Animal Testing

...Every year, over 25 million animals are used to conduct experiments for scientific and commercial research. Testing on animals have developed safe products for human use, which includes medical treatment, medicine, cosmetic, and skin care. Experimenting on them has enabled us to advance our approach to creating and innovating commercial and scientific products. People forget that the animals also benefit from these experiments. Others argue that it is inhumane and now that we have alternative options due to today’s technology, we should not be using animals anymore. Machines can replace the use of animals as well as prevent mistreatment of them. Opponents also claim that animals are different from humans which makes results irrelevant and therefore people...

Others think that it’s necessary in the medical field and will help advance medicine. It has helped with many medical discoveries, but it does have it’s flaws and hiccups that undermine it’s overall value. Though it still has some strong points, animal testing should be limited because animals are not suitable replacements for human drug testing, animal testing doesn’t produce accurate results, and there are many other reliable alternatives to it. ...A very touchy subject on whether or not animals should be tested on. More than 100 million animals are killed from testing in the U.S alone.  That’s about 273.973  animals a day that die from getting tested for biological, medical, and cosmetic reasons. But why is this a thing, perhaps humans wouldn’t want anything bad happening to them and only to an innocent animal.  Just think of your animals at home, they are scared  going to the vet, let alone in a cage their whole life and getting nothing but tests. There are many reasons as to why this vicious act should be stopped immediately.      You’re  hurting an animal. That should be enough reasoning to stop. What gives you the right to test on confused scared animals. Some people believe...

Arguments Against Animal Testing

...Animal testing research paper Throughout history animals have been unfairly tested on. As early as 384 Bc animal testing has occurred (Hajar). In 1980 Henry Spira, an animal rights activist, took an ad out in the New York Times with the slogan “How many rabbits does Revlon blind for beauty's sake?” That is what started the campaign to stop animal testing. Animals are tested on to make products such as shampoo, makeup, and sunscreen. When you test on animals 50% of the animals that get tested die during the study. The ones who survive are later killed. The main animals that are tested on are monkeys, rats, mice, lizards, guinea pigs and baboons but are not limited to those animals. Animal testing should be banned because it is unnecessary and cruel to animals. Different procedures are done to animals that are painful and would be considered animal abuse in any other situation. To test products and chemicals on animals there are many procedures that are done. One procedure is vivisection, which is the act of cutting or experimenting with live animals or putting harsh chemicals on the animals. Another procedure that is done is a Draize test. A Draize test involves dripping substances in rabbit or other animals eyes causing pain and in serious cases blindness. These procedures should be stopped because it is hurting live creatures and is cruel to...

Persuasive Essay Against Animal Testing

...Animal testing is the use of non-human animals for experimentation. There are studies that show that it is estimated that between 100 – 150 million vertebrate animals, including mice, rats, birds, fish, rabbits, guinea pigs, farm animals, dogs, cats and non-human primates, are used in animal testing worldwide. This large number does not even include the millions of vertebrates in the United States that are excluded from the Animal Welfare and thus not required to be reported. Animals are tested for the safety, and efficacy, of products to humans. In fact, both the EPA and the FDA use animal testing for the marketing of industrial chemicals, vaccines and medication. This is unethical for many reasons, most animals have a biology that is different from humans, so most animals make unreliable test subjects. Also, there are better testing ways that end with knowing how the human body will react....

Animal Testing Synthesis

...dissolve your teeth, or be paralyzed from polio? There is a growing movement to stop all use of animals in tests but particularly in experiments performed for reasons of human vanity, not health. These tests have resulted in countless medical treatments, helping millions of people. Animal testing is necessary because it allows people to avoid testing new products and it increases the standard of living for all humans. Source C argues that animals should be used in medical and commercial testing because it means that the treatments have been tested and that you aren’t the first person to have this done to them. The reference to you being ‘the guinea pig” in Source C is especially important because it jokes of the man being tested on instead of an animal. Source C’s most important information is how easily people connect with the idea of being tested on. While Source C doe make an important argument about animal testing it doesn't actually have any information to back it up, unlike Source A....
