“All Abound Eve”

All about Eve is a dramatic film in the fifties, that got many academy awards nominations, and won six of the fourteen nominations. I have always enjoyed, the slow transition of changing a character during a film or TV series, I am fully aware it is no easy task, and the character with the most settle, yet enormous change during this film has definitely have to be Anne Baxter. The beginning of the movie was very dull for her character, there was nothing really outstanding about it, and made me question why this actress was nominated for an academy award. Her counterpart, Bette Davis would easily catch my attention because of her cockiness, and Anne Baxter's fascination with Bette Davis's character certainly made Bette Davis a lot more interesting. However during the course of this film, it was all about Eve.
So, the film starts with a ceremony, introducing pretty much all the characters, and making sure you notice how Eve receives the award, then the film proceeds with a flash back, explaining how all these characters got together in this same room. As for now Eve is introduced as a humble and respectful character, her fascination for Margo and her plays drive her to meeting Margo one day. When she does Eve tells Margo and her friends about her sad story, but since the character is so dull, up to this point, it didn't affect me one bit, She eventually becomes her secretary/maid which proceeds doing anything she can to please her Idol. Margo realizes her real maid, doesn't really like Eve and asks why. Her maid, fully aware of Eve's intentions, tells her how Eve is studying her every move and can lead to her fall in carrier. This baffles Margo, yet kept this comment in mind and was more aware of Eve overall. During this time Eve has been still a dull character, a normal kid just wanting to do any errand for her idol, very humble, and respectful towards Margo and anyone who Margo seems to know. Everyone seems to care and notice about Eve by this time in the movie and her character is starting to loosen up a lot more. Bette Davis's emotions begin to get a settle change, she begins to talk to a lot more of Margo's friends, and seems to be pushing Margo away from her circle.
Margo gets drunk in a party and yells at everyone because of the discomfort of she has about herself, specially about her age. This is when, the Drama is a lot more noticeable, Margo has discomfort with her emotions and Bette Davis is part of it, she knows its an important time in her career, and has a script written for a play specifically for Margo yet she doesn't feel like shes young enough to do so, there are plenty of other girls that can do that and even better. As for now she just displays this emotion with anger, her friends begin to think differently of Margo, saying how they are tired of how she treats them, Margo then goes up to sleep. Later on in the film, Margo is late for an audition, 2 hours late to be exact, and Bette Davis was elected to do Margo's paper since she is her student and does an excellent job, everyone is astonished for how well she did and got the paper, and Margo did not like this one bit. Bette Davis's character later on finally making her own decisions, she is finally portrayed as a rising star for her talent and the news notices this so she gets an interview, and Bette Davis talks wrongly about Margo this makes everyone dislike Bette Davis's character. Bette Davis confesses to Margo's friend about her taking Margo place in the upcoming play written specifically for Margo, and wants her to tell Addison.
Bette Davis is revealed as a impostor, Eve isn't her real name, and she made up her sad story just so Margo can take her, her acting is on point, all her emotions are connected to what an insane person with a master plan would do and act, after someone discovered her real intentions. Bette Davis crying and rolling on the bed, like a little girl was an excellent addition. Eve finally does the show and wins the award back to where we began, and now even after Eve's appreciations during her speech, nobody seemed to care about her. Towards the end Eve finds a young girl in her house, and she acclaims she is a great fan of her and is willing to do whatever Eve wants, and Eve falls for her lies, just like Margo did. Ironic ending.

Eve's Dreams in Paradise Lost

...Adam and Eve’s subconscious, as well as to God’s respective plans for them. Adam and Eve’s dreams illustrate the differences inherent within them and their very different relationships with God. Eve’s dreams are particularly dramatic in their substance, and in their drastic contrast before and after the fall. I propose that Milton’s use of dreams in Paradise Lost demonstrates that prelapsarian Eve could never have truly comprehended good and evil. All of Adam’s dreams in the poem are divinely inspired, while Eve’s first dream is induced by Satan, and her final, postlapsarian dream a vision from God that shows her that she will go on to bear the “promised seed” (12.623) that will deliver salvation. This essay will examine the different ways in which Adam and Eve receive information and how it affects their understanding and, consequently, their actions. We are first introduced to Adam and Eve as Satan is observing them in the Garden of Eden, acting as the first anthropologist in order to ascertain how to bring about their demise. Satan notes first that Adam and Eve appear to preside over all in the Garden, and second that there are clear distinctions between the two which render them “not equal, as their sex not equal seemed” (4.296). Their separate purposes are also immediately apparent at line 297 “For contemplation he and valor formed, / For softness she and sweet attractive Grace, / He for God only, she for God in him”....

Causes of Eve Teasing

...Eve teasing Eve teasing is a euphemism used in India and sometimes Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal for public sexual harassment, street harassment or molestation of women by men, with Eve being a reference to the biblical Eve. Considered a problem related to delinquency in youth it is a form of sexual aggression that ranges in severity from sexually suggestive remarks, brushing in public places, catcalls, to outright groping. Sometimes it is referred to with a coy suggestion of innocent fun, making it appear innocuous with no resulting liability on the part of the perpetrator. Many feminists and voluntary organizations have suggested that the expression be replaced by a more appropriate term. According to them, considering the semantic roots of the term in Indian English, eve-teasing refers to the temptress nature of Eve, placing responsibility on the woman as a tease, as though the aggressive response of the males was normal rather than criminal. Eve-teasing has been a notoriously difficult crime to prove, as perpetrators often devise ingenious ways to attack women, even though many feminist writers term it as "little rapes” and usually occur in public places, streets, and public transport. Some guidebooks to the region warn female tourists that eve teasing may be avoided by wearing conservative clothing, though eve teasing is reported both by Indian women and by conservatively-dressed foreign women. MEANING :- Eve teasing is a euphemism used in India for sexual harassment...

He was the son of a successful Protestant merchant, and was provided with an excellent education that included the opportunity to travel widely throughout Europe. He was fluent in a number of classical as well as modern languages, including Greek, Latin, Hebrew, Aramaic, Spanish, Italian, French and Dutch. In 1625, he began his attendance at Cambridge University with the intention of becoming a clergyman in the Church of England, but was disillusioned by what he considered the arrogance and ignorance of his fellow students. He decided that his true calling was to serve God and his country as an author and poet. Inspired by Roman poets of antiquity, and particularly Virgil, Milton aspired to create a great epic poem in the English language. He considered two other distinctly British topics for his epic—the story of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, and the military exploits of the general Oliver Cromwell—before settling on the Biblical story of Adam and Eve and their fall from God’s grace through disobedience. Milton was politically active throughout his life, and was outspoken in his beliefs against...

Pandora

...Pandora and Eve The Greek myth of Pandora and the Hebrew story of Eve both relate the creation of the first woman, but the woman was created for different reasons. The story of Pandora is about the betrayal of a titan, named Prometheus, who stole fire from Zeus and the gods and gave it to man. As a punishment, a woman was created to bring misfortunes to mankind. In the story of Eve, a woman was created by God as a companion for man, but she also brought misfortunes to man. Although both stories are about the creation of the first woman and how their disobedience is the source of despair for mankind, the story of Eve has a more positive view of women. In the Greek myth of Pandora, the creation of the first woman was ordered by Zeus as a gift to punish man for stealing fire. Zeus ordered the other gods to create Pandora. She was given several traits by different gods such as beauty, musical talents, healing, manual dexterity, and gardening. Pandora was lovable, talented and was the ideal female. In addition, Pandora was also given a box and told never to open it. Yet, given the traits of foolishness and curiosity, she opened the box and released the misfortunes that afflict mankind. In the story of Eve, the creation of the first woman was by God, who decided that Adam should not be alone : “It is not good that the man should be alone. I shall make him a helper meet for him” Gen Ch2; 18. Therefore, God caused a deep sleep on Adam and He took one of his ribs and created Eve as his...

In the case of keenan-reuben , the accused were initially just convicted for 14days and then later 3 convicts were arrested under IPC sections 302 (murder), 324 (causing hurt by dangerous weapons) and 434 (mischief). I believe that the section 354 and 509 of the Indian Penal Code must be made stronger. At present offences such as eve teasing and sexual harassment are bailable. Either we should make the offence as non – bailable or the victim should be given the right to treat the accused in whichever way they wish. Was Eve Black Really Suffering from Mpd?

...When relating this to the Thigpen and Cleckley’s study they claim that the patient who was referred to as Eve White in the study to be suffering from MPD. However, there have been many arguments which state that Eve White may have been tricking Thigpen and Cleckley throughout the therapy. This essay will focus on my opinion to whether or not I believe in the fact that if Eve was really suffering from Multiple Personality Disorder. The whole nature of the study came about when Eve White had been referred for therapy to one of the authors of sever and blinding headaches, at her first interview she also complained of blackouts following her headaches. When Eve White was being interviewed the therapist interprets the way Eve White changes approach towards to him; being more familiar and relaxed as she had in fact become Eve Black, an entirely different personality; which is a symptom of Multiple Personality Disorder. I believe that Eve Black was in fact suffering from MPD, there are several reasons why I think this such as the findings which back up the idea that Eve Black had MPD such as several days after a visit to the therapists, a letter from White appeared at the therapists’ office. The letter concerned her therapy and was writer in her usual handwriting, but at the bottom of the page there was a paragraph that looked like a child had written it, this shows that Eve White did have MPD as her complete writing style has changed towards the end of the letter. It could be...

Eternal Loneliness

...Eternal Loneliness Only Lovers Left Alive is a movie about a short piece of two vampire lovers’ common life. I always believe vampires are the most pathetic population in the universe. Living in the dark and abandoned by the god and the people, what is the point having everlasting life the superpower. Actually not only the vampires I take pity on, but all the immortal creatures. Being immortal means witnessing lovers and friends passed away infinitely. Dracula waited his reincarnation wife for four hundred years; Legolas said goodbye to his dearest friends – Aragon and Gimli. Confronted with immortal, time would be bondage of the soul. Even they could share the everlasting life with their lovers, time can still become the time bomb of the relationship. The person has to return to single again, and wandering brimless cage of time. Due to the everlasting life, the person would have done almost everything in the world. Having a future without love must be much more inane and lonely for having experienced love before. Love is the only thing that makes them feel alive in loneliness. Only Lovers Left Alive is the first vampire-themed movie that described detailed daily life of a couple of vampires. By the time there are no werewolves, hunters, and witches, the conventional natural enemies, time is the only thing left turning against vampires. Everyone came to the universe alone, and then facing death by themselves. Escaping from the last trial, the alternation...

...Below is a much briefer summary of the case study of Eve The aim of this case study was to provide an account of the treatment of a 25-year-old woman who was referred to Thigpen and Cleckley because of 'severe and blinding headaches'. The psychiatrists used a case study method. This consisted of interviews with the patient and her family, hypnosis, observation, EEG tests and a number of psychometric and projective tests including, memory tests, ink blot tests and intelligence tests. The patient (referred to as Eve White in the study) had been referred for therapy to one of the authors because of ‘severe and blinding headaches’. At the first interview she also complained of ‘‘blackouts’’ following her headaches. However they were puzzled that Eve White had no memory of a recent trip. The therapists used hypnosis and the amnesia was cleared. Several days after a visit to the therapists, a letter from Eve White appeared at the therapists’ office. The letter concerned her therapy and was written in her usual handwriting, but at the bottom of the page there was a paragraph that looked like a child had written it. On her next visit Eve White denied sending the letter, though she recalled having begun one, which she never finished and thought she had destroyed. During the interview, Eve White who was normally very self-controlled became distressed and asked whether hearing an occasional imaginary voice made her insane. She reported that she had on several occasions over the...

Sincerity in Paradise Lost

...The Impact of Adam’s Sincerity in Book X of Paradise Lost Once Adam and Eve betrayed God and were judged by Jesus, tensions were high between the two of them. Adam wanted nothing to do with Eve because he felt that it was her fault, and because of this Eve felt dejected and said she wanted to commit suicide. After Eve said this, Adam became more understanding and easygoing. From Lines 1013-1096, Adam explains to Eve that they could have it much worse, and suggests that instead of bringing harm to themselves or others they should instead admit their faults and beg for his pardon. Adam’s speech to Eve about begging for forgiveness and God’s subsequent acceptance represents kindness and honesty prevailing over hate, and shows the inverse of what the council of hell chose to do. From lines 1013 to 1096 we see a change in Adam’s feelings toward their situation. Instead of feeling contempt for Eve and Satan and wanting to act out on his hatred, he thinks rationally about what the consequences of those hasty actions may be. On lines 1020 through 1028, Adam states that even though death may be a quick solution to their problems, he doesn’t doubt the vengefulness of God and says that he will not exempt them from paying for it later, and will make “death in them live.” On hurting Satan, he says that that will only put him out of his misery and allow him to escape his punishment, while adding onto theirs. This shows that Adam is choosing not to let hate overwhelm him...

Reflections Paper

... The two topics I have chosen to write about are the Fall of Man and Teaching/Instruction. During this second part of the course, I have learned some more interesting topics during the final weeks. This paper will cover the ideas I have learned so far in this course. II. Part One a. Theological Definition The beginning of the Fall of Man begins in the passage that took place when Adam and Eve, went from being obedient to God to being defiant of God. Adam and Eve were created with purity and were to obey God their creator. Then Satan came a long and convinced Eve and Adam to disobey God by eating the fruit from the tree of knowledge. This was the beginning of sin, and what I believe, was the period, that became known as, the Fall of Man. b. Biblical Foundation As described in Genesis 1:1-31, God is the creator of all living things, plants, animals and humans. God created Adam from dust and Eve was created from Adam’s rib, both were created in God’s image. God made the Garden of Eden a place where all of Adams and Eves desire for sustaining life could be met. God’s only restriction for Adam and Eve was not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. (Genesis 2-17). Eve was approached by a serpent who had persuaded her to eat the fruit from the tree that God told them not to. Then Eve talked Adam into eating the fruit from that same tree. After eating the fruit from the tree, both Adam and Eve began to view the world in a different way...

...that fall in this category. Eve and Sir Gawain in their respective works of literature fall to deception. They both let their emotions be altered which ultimately led to their downfall. Sir Gawain had a vision in mind but it was hindered by how his pride ended up being a form of deception. Eve was giving specific orders not to eat the fruit from the forbidden tree and would have abided by this until the devil came and deceived her by preying on her gullibility. Paradise Lost gives us a unique perspective of Eve. In the story Eve was created after Adam in order to complement and help him rule over the land that God gave them. God gave them freedom to have anything they want in the land but told them specifically that there was one tree in particular that they could not eat from. Eve was much different from Adam because she was a female and her entire mannerisms were different. God specifically made Eve to be different. She was more in tuned with her feelings. She was emotional and was beautiful in her physical features. Eve fed off of that and embraced the fact that she was beautiful, which later had a role in her downfall. Compared to Adam she is a bit inferior. Eve is presented as inferior because Adam is the one that is usually trusted with making decisions. She doesn’t have a problem with him making the harder decisions that require critical thinking and analysis. The devil was very aware of this and used that as a way to get to Eve and deceive her. He was aware...
