I also went through stages of change where i felt I could not care for my children because I was being evicted from my apartments, no transportation, and losing jobs every month due to my attendance. I went through a change of depending on men who I thought were the world to me and always left me. The final change took place when I got tired and got saved. I grew up in the church all of my life and as an adult; I wanted to live the party life. It is amazing how even in our "mess" God is still there with us even when we stray. We may leave him but he never leaves us. When I got saved, my life changed and has never been the same. I am now stable, my twins are 14 and they are respectful young men of God. Giving birth to a child creates a strong bond between a mother and daughter, the emotional bond created between my granddaughter and myself is due to the fact, I had custody of her for the first two and half years of her life and I sang Amazing Grace to her every night before bedtime. She weighted a pound and six ounces when she was born, by the Grace of God she is a thriving six year old. This gives reason for her name, Nevaeh Lee, her first name backwards with her middle name, Heaven Lee. This poem touches my heart on a level no song has ever done. It was a way we spent our special time together. I can feel her little body lying on my chest with her hand clutching my shirt collar. Our city has a population of 4,660, according to the 2010 U.S. Census. Although our city is only one square mile, we have many diverse groups of people that live here. While we may not be a large city by any means, we are rich in culture. Our racial break up is listed as such: 71.82% White, 6.09% African American, 0.22% Native American, 15.72%Asian, 11.46% Hispanic, 3.24% from other races, and 2.81% from two or more races. 0.10% Pacific Islander. While the majority of the community is white, we do celebrate other cultures. We as a community try and make sure that we stay as diverse as possible. I have lived here most of my life, and have never had any kind of racial issues. Even in the high school that I went to, which was mostly Hispanic and African American, I cannot recall ever having a racial issue with anyone else. In my community we have a mayor, and a city council. As of today, all of the members on the city council are white males. Our race might be the only thing that we have in common. While I do not agree with a lot of the things that our city council is doing right now, I plan on trying to change some of that by running for council myself. Grand Rapids is a very small town that cares about all of the people that lives and visits our great village. “We are a prodominetly white community but, there are a few different races that live in our community”, says Mayor Judy Keifer. Mayor Keifer has also made it real clear that all people are welcome to our community no matter age, race, or sex. “ Although there is not much diversity between races, Grand Rapids, or Gilead as it was known as from1833 to 1868, was founded by a number of diverse races”, as reported by Boy Scout Historian Mark Tolles from Troup 325. Although Grand Rapids is a big hearted community, there are only about 1,002 people that occupy our village.
