We live in a world thriving with technology that boggles the mind, from personal management systems that help organize our lives, thermostats that know our work schedule to control the heat for when were home or not, to cars that can auto park themselves. So how is it with all this technology that we still wait four to six business days to receive our online packages of small, every day essentials? This is were drones are starting to be turned from a aviators recreational hobby to a tool used by corporations to tailor to customers everyday needs at the click of a button. But despite the commercial boost these drones could deliver, there is now an every growing hurdle of safety, liability, and security these corporations need to pass in order …show more content…
These guidelines can potentially restrict Amazon Air from ever leaving the ground despite the claims by Misener that the technology to fly these drones outside of the operators sight exists, something they will need to prove to the FAA and congress before they reconsider the restrictions on the rules. The largest difficulty that Amazon faces with their plans is proving these drones can be flown safely in residential areas, can be flown without operators being in line of sight. If the regulations are not changed then as stated by Michael E. Drobac, the executive director of the Small UAV Coalition said, "That means we really are not talking about unmanned aerial vehicles. We are talking about something that has to have a person. It defeats the whole purpose." (Snider, Mike, and William M. Weich. "FAA Shoots down Amazon's Drone Delivery Plans.") Though at this point in time should Amazon succeed in changing the FAA’s opinion on UAV’s being flown outside of the operators line of sight they still lack the technology at this time to process orders in under thirty minutes. (Lavaris, Nick. "Amazon to Begin Testing New Delivery Drones in the US.", Press, …show more content…
Meanwhile with over seas countries having looser regulations than the US it has attracted creative, innovative people, and of course money to those places. Sky-Futures, a British based company that uses drones for data collection and analysis for the oil and gas companies in the UK. As Co-Founder Chris Blackford said in regards to Sky-Futures work in field with drones, "a head-start over the U.S. because we understand pretty intimately the problems facing the oil and gas market, and how we can solve them with technology." (Wagstaff, Jeremy. "Overseas Drone Makers Get a Head-start on the Market as U.S. Lawmakers Dither on Regulation.") Other such companies who are using drones not for profit but for bettering the earth are BioCarbon Engineering, another British company that is using drones that are equipped to plant a germinated tree seed to speed up reforestation process. This has even inspired company’s based in New-Zealand and Australia to start production on drones to be used in by the military, oil, gas, mining and farming company’s. However, creating the drones is only half the battle and the process. There is still much to be done in developing the software, which will run, operate, and utilize the data these drones use

Defining Amazon

...This paper illustrates the ultimate market power that Amazon now has that was once shared by larger corporations. In the recent weeks, Amazon topped their leading competitor, Wal-Mart, in earnings per share. Amazon had been a market leader in their supply chain strategy by analyzing their customer’s orders to show demand, excellent customer service, and individualized product offerings (Muha, 2014). During their holiday season, they bid with the larger capacity 3PL transportation carriers to pay up to three times their normal rate to pick up their freight and deliver on time. Amazon has also sparked an awful lot of controversy over their “Amazon Prime Air” project which is nothing more than a drone dropping a small package at a customer’s door. While this project is still under much scrutiny, Amazon is still testing and moving forward with it. Defining Amazon’s Competitive Edge in Today’s Marketplace Amazon got their start in 1994 as an online book retailer and did not begin to publically trade until 1997. So how did such a small company become one of the world’s largest retailers with such little capital? Prior to doing this research, and I am still partially correct, I thought Amazon took full advantage of the technology boom of the late 1990’s and just grew based on demand. In 1998 they started their music store and in 2000 they opened a fulfillment center overseas and launched Amazon.co.jp for Japanese customers. Moving to 2005, Amazon created their “Amazon Prime”...

IF TOMORROW COMES by Sidney Sheldon, ©1985 BOOK ONE Chapter 01 New Orleans THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 20--- 11:00 P.M. She undressed slowly, dreamily, and when she was naked, she selected a bright red negligee to wear so that the blood would not show. Doris Whitney looked around the bedroom for the last time to make certain that the pleasant room, grown dear over the past thirty years, was neat and tidy. She opened the drawer of the bedside table and carefully removed the gun. It was shiny black, and terrifyingly cold. She placed it next to the telephone and dialed her daughter's number in Philadelphia. She listened to the echo of the distant ringing. And then there was a soft "Hello?" "Tracy... I just felt like hearing the sound of your voice, darling." "What a nice surprise, Mother." "I hope I didn't wake you up." "No. I was reading. Just getting ready to go to sleep. Charles and I were going out for dinner, but the weather's too nasty. It's snowing hard here. What's it doing there?" Dear God, we're talking about the weather, Doris Whitney thought, when there's so much I want to tell her. And can't. "Mother? Are you there?" Doris Whitney stared out the window. "It's raining." And she thought, How melodramatically appropriate. Like an...
