Netflix Swot Analysis

...A SWOT analysis is an essential evaluation that every company should consider utilizing. It reviews phases and elements of a company with the purpose of showing what aspects are working well and which ones need to be improved. By applying the SWOT analysis to Netflix, I have concluded that their strengths are, the easy stream and the accessibility that the service offers to its customers. Subscribers can enjoy their favorite shows and movies in the comfort of their home, on the go, during their lunch break and even on their mobile devices or computers. Another strength that Netflix has is their affordable monthly subscription that ranges between $7.99 and $11.99 per month which includes unlimited movies and TV shows. The additional benefits of a membership depend upon how much you want to pay each month. With the improved development of internet speed, more customers are preferring to watch their movies and TV shows online thus decreasing the usage of DVDs. This is considered a weakness of Netflix, because the company decided to separate their services into two categories: the streaming Netflix and DVD.com, a Netflix company which offers physical DVDs that are delivered by mail. The DVD by mail operations have decreased considerably in recent years and the decline of memberships is expected to continue in the future. On the other hand, a big advantage Netflix has compared to other similar services, is the growth of International markets. Netflix is present in more than 200 countries...

The Languagelessness of Immigrants

...The Languagelessness of Immigrants Ivy Dr. S. Xie English 239.03 Nov 21, 2012 People are in the fortunate position of choosing where in the world you would like to live. However, most immigrants facing removal proceedings are frequently hamstrung by language and cultural barriers. Both Kingston’s Woman Warrior and Suki Kim’s The Interpreter illustrate languagelessness of Chinese and Korean immigrants across American states, which are rejection by failing assimilation into American mainstream, loneliness and isolation from other people, and sense of identity crisis. Rejection by failing assimilation into American mainstream For the first generation born in America, it is especially difficult to reconcile the heavy-handed and often restrictive traditions of the emigrants with the relative freedom of life in America. In Women Warrior, Kingston draws a sharp contrast between her fantasy about Fa Mu Lan, the Chinese traditional woman warrior, and the defining moments of her real "American life." Fa Mu Lan had her village's grievances tattooed on her back; Kingston has Chinese stories practically drilled into her brain and is labeled with racial epithets. Her personal struggle and vengeance lie in making sense of the stories through writing, in depicting through words the struggles of growing up Chinese-American. There is an important difference, though, Fa Mu Lan could achieve her vengeance and then return home, but Kingston's vengeance seems to be a never-ending struggle...

The It

...Wonder Woman was more than a lasso slinging, bullet dodging super hero; she is an American feminist’s icon. Wonder Woman was introduced to Americans during World War II, by William Moulton Marston, a Harvard trained psychologist and lawyer. She represented nationhood at a time when our nation was at war. She was the daughter of Queen Hippolyte ruler of an all-woman race of Amazons living on Paradise Island, somewhere located in the Bermuda Triangle. She was named Princess Diana, after the Romanized version of the Greek Goddess Artemis (Emad, 2006). Since the inception of Wonder Woman, her origin has changed twice. Originally she earned her power and title she embodied for decades when she won a power competition amongst the other Amazonian women. In the second version of her origin she did not win her powers but instead was given them to her by the Gods themselves. Wonder Woman was much more than a comic book super hero. According to historian Lori Landay, “Wonder Woman operated in wartime popular culture as a metaphor for the movement in femininity out of the garden and into the war” (p. 11). She contained her super human powers from the public and lived a dual life, nurse and super hero. This reinforced the perception that women need to hide the power and strength allowing men to remain the dominate species. By the late 1990’s, Wonder Woman’s image changed and began to align with the times. She bared a more determined look, her body was toned and she donned a more “ready...

Indeed, Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Borders have used Blogs, Twitter, and advisement banners. These are a few ways of using technology to meet the demands of their customers. Thirty One Gifts Overview

...Three Approaches Differentiation: Thirty-One Gifts is a company that has substantially grown and continues to grow. They have found ways to differentiate themselves from other direct sellers with in multiple ways. The ways that stand out to me are its focus on women, tie to a biblical passage, hours of operation, and product. Its focus on women also ties to the company’s biblical connection. As stated in an article, “the very name of Thirty-One comes from the Bible. The company’s official materials say that Proverbs 31 ‘celebrates hard working women who are compassionate, gracious and inspiring to their families and the people around them” (Feran, 2011). The bags and goods sold from Thirty-One are all sold as direct-sales where the sales consultant typically sells at hosted parties; however, it also includes sales online. This allows for all hours shopping which was an intentional reason for starting the company; the CEO was in Atlanta before the company existed, attempting to shop at gift stores and “when she realized that the shops selling those products all closed at 6pm, something clicked” (Feran, 2011). Lastly, their product itself is differentiated, and one main way is that the bags and most items can be monogrammed. Cost Effectiveness: Krispy Kreme is my example for cost effectiveness. First, Krispy Kreme significantly outperformed the market estimates for earnings per share for yearend 2011 by posting $2.01 EPS while the estimate averaged at $0.06 EPS. This, along...

...resources for teachers, acting as a one-stop shop for classroom items, toys and games, and educational electronics. Started in 2001 with only 500 products, Wizard of Math now offers tens of thousands of products. The Challenge At the end of 2006, Amazon.com approached Wizard of Math with an opportunity to begin listing on their marketplace immediately; a large provider of educational toys had pulled off of their platform, and they were in the market for a new vendor. While Wizard of Math was extremely interested in the opportunity, they knew they lacked the resources available to connect their data with Amazon’s Webstore platform. At the time, Wizard of Math was managing their listings by hand and had no visibility when an order came through to know if the warehouse had the inventory in stock. Specific requirements included:     The ability to transition 15,000+ products from manual to automatic management Custom fields, as required by Amazon The ability to add and discontinue 300-400 products each month Visibility to distributor stock levels so the company could guarantee inventory and achieve a high ranking on Amazon The Solution Amazon introduced Wizard of Math to Merchantry, and, after due diligence, Wizard of Math selected the Merchantry platform. Merchantry assisted in enabling Wizard of Math to sell on the Amazon Webstore, and after integration, became the system that manages all of their inventory and order processing. Data feeds enable Wizard of Math and...

7 Lessons of Xiaomi’s Marketing Success Story in China

...#1: Product – not just another knock-off Competing only on price was not what XiaoMi has chosen as their core strategy. Surely, their phones and tablets are cheaper than Apple’s and Samsung’s but, by far, not the cheapest ones in the market. There are cheaper smartphones that flood China, however all of them have a major flow – poor quality. Essentially, those devices are reverse-engineered versions of Samsung models built from cheaper materials. By coming up with a good quality phone at lower price range was the key strategic move that put XiaoMi firmly on the map. The phone has a robust case, high quality screen and a reasonable battery. It doesn’t break easily, unlike cheaper copycats that start having issues after just a few months of use. By building it’s own Android-based OS called MIUI, XiaoMi phones got new exciting features not found on standard Android devices as well as plenty of customization options. #2: Price – pay less now, pay more later XiaoMi has also realized that selling cheaper phones near their actual cost was not a sustainable long term strategy, so they decided to go with the Amazon’s model – just cover the cost of the devices and make money from selling content. Although, XiaoMi is often compared to Apple, especially considering the fact that their founder, Lei Jun, resembles Steve Jobs in his style and charisma, it is clear that XiaoMi’s true inspiration comes from Amazon. Also, XiaoMi mostly sells online which further reduces cost of sales and...

Amazon

...Business Model Analysis Amazon started as an online bookseller, rapidly expanding into music and movies, and ultimately into electronics and household goods. The online retail line of business includes those products sold by Amazon as a traditional retailer, most commonly as a low-cost retailer, and Amazon claims to have “Earth’s biggest Selection” of products available through its family of websites, sold at the lowest cost at a small profit. However, Amazon doesn’t stock everything that is sold through its website. Another portion of its online retail strategy is to serve as the channel platform for other retailers to sell their products and taking a cut of every purchase. Amazon maintains its status as a destination website, but does not have to maintain inventory on slower-selling products. Analysis based on business model canvas framework (Exhibit 1: Amazon business model canvas), divided into three parts, how Amazon services and products are produced and the costs involved, what Amazon offers to its customer, and who Amazon sells its services and products to and how these are delivered to market. Talking about key partners, Amazon has historically acquired, invested, collaborated and partnered with suppliers and manufacturers delivering its online retail business. Besides, the network among sellers provides chances for dealers to sharing and communicating with each other. Looking at the company’s key activities and resources, Amazon focuses on producing great...
