Amei Wallach What Is Art Analysis

...Text 1: “Art; Is It Art? Is It Good? And Who Says So?” by Amei Wallach “It seems pretty clear by now that more or less anything can be designated as art.” This is true, whether or not I think something looks beautiful, or a song sounds melodic it can still be considered art. Sculptures made of trash can be considered art, where I just see someone's leftovers gone rotten. Just like a pile of trash has the possibility of turning into a million dollar sculpture, all art has the possibility of turning into great art. Art isn't great because it looks beautiful to everyone: it's great because it inflicts emotion in the viewer. I look at garbage and see garbage, someone else looks at garbage and sees the struggle of the forgotten few. Wallach quotes artist Richard Prince, who says that there will not be “a consensus” in a room of people. For Prince, his art is good because he feels good when he makes it. It's the fact that his art causes him to feel that makes it great....

Eveline

...Courtney Osmond Professor Jhingree ENC 1102 12 March 2014 Symbolism in Eveline and Everyday Use Symbolism is a common part of any story; from a play to a poem. In both Eveline and Everyday Use, hidden symbols are used that represent each character. In Eveline, the symbol used is dust which covers everything in Eveline’s life. In Everyday Use, the quilt is the symbol that represents heritage. Also, additional symbols are used to define each character. Symbols add a hidden meaning to the story that can add depth to the characters. In James Joyce’s short story, a prominent symbol is dust. Eveline’s character has lots of dust, since she is lifeless, and never advancing. In Eveline, Eveline looks around her room taking everything in. She observes “all its familiar objects which she had dusted once a week for so many years, wondering where on earth all the dust came from (McMahan et al. 3).” This means that she is looking at her life and all the dust that has accumulated over the years. She is noticing how stale and boring her life is due to all the pressures of her dad. Her dad is the main cause of dust build up all these years. Her father abuses her and “says what he would do to her only for her dead mother’s sake (McMahan et al. 4).” The “dust” in Eveline’s life is due to the pressure of taking care of her dad, and trying to support him. Over the years the dust kept piling up, making the dust unmanageable, causing her to freak out at the end of the story. Just as she is about...

New Method of Power Quality Improvement in Classical Ac/Ac Controllers Using Pwm

...NEW METHOD OF POWER QUALITY IMPROVEMENT IN CLASSICAL AC/AC CONTROLLERS USING PWM SUBMITTED BY LEKHASRI.M KARTHIKA DEVI.G ERODE SENGUNTHAR ENGINEERING COLLEGE, Erode-57. Mail id: eseclekha.eee@gmail.com karthierd.g@gmail.com Contact no: 9791758935 8012178062 Abstract: A lot of topologies of pulse-width modulated (PWM)-AC voltage controllers for single-phase and threephasesystems are proposed up to date. PWM-AC controllers have important advantages comparedwith the phase-controlled AC voltage controllers using thyristors and triacs. This article presents anovel control technique for application to PWM-AC controllers with ability of generating smallerharmonics. In the proposed control method, both the traditional AC voltage controllers and the PWMAC. controllers are combined, smaller THD values are obtained and switching losses are minimized. Thus, the harmonic pollution in the power system will be reduced and the power quality will beincreased. In order to investigate the proposed controller performance, computer simulations andexperimental studies are performed. Obtained results are compared with those of the conventionalPWM-AC controller. Key words: Power quality, AC choppers, PWM-AC controllers, AC sector-control voltage converters INTRODUCTION There are three basic types of AC to AC converters. Thesimplest ones, the AC voltage controllers, allow...

Impact of China’s Expansion in Every Sphere on United States of Amerca

...IMPACT OF CHINA’S EXPANSION IN EVERY SPHERE ON UNITED STATES OF AMERCA Introduction The concept of striving for hegemonic state is not a new concept or term to us; rather this notion has kept repeating itself throughout the record. In today’s practical world, great powers are searching extensively and aggressively for opportunities to attain power over others, with hegemony being their ultimate goal. In present realistic and anarchic world system, power is all that matters to selfish and domination oriented states. In a very similar way, China, which has been making success by leaps and bounds, is in time aiming to gain the position of super power, the position which in the present day is being enjoyed and exercised by the United States of America. With around 1.3billion population; estimating for one-fifth of the world’s entire population, with world’s largest armed forces, China, while contributing about 13percent to the world economy, is at present the fastest developing country across the sphere, with raw potentials to becoming a super power down the line. (China: The 21st Century Super Power, September, 2005) China, for past few decades, has been observed making substantial progress in almost every sphere, not only with an aim to improve its international front, but also to maximize its share of international power and gain a position that is desired by a few of the known competing great powers. China has been implementing and devising a mix of very optimal agendas...

Rogara a Deus sem cessar: 'Dá-me a Nova Inglaterra!'...
