I. Introduction

There are many issues that face the interpreter as he approaches the book of Revelation. Is my exegesis theologically biased? What type of hermeneutic do I employ when dealing with prophetic passages? Should I apply the grammatical-historical approach consistently throughout all of Scripture? Am I bringing an interpretation to the text? Am I exhausting the interpretive process, or am I merely guessing? Some of these issues are fundamental, while others are peripheral. All are important, but the peripheral issues stem from the fundamental issues. The most fundamental difference between Amillennialism and Premillennialism is a theological bias. The result of this theological bias surfaces another fundamental difference: hermeneutical methodology. All the other issues are employed within or are peripheral to these two core issues. The thrust of this paper will deal with these two core issues while dealing with the peripheral issues when they surface.
II. Defining Terms

A. Amillennialism

First, however, we must define the terms Amillennialism and Premillennialism. In Latin, the prefix a- is a negation of the following root word. The root word –mille means 1,000. The suffix -annus means years. Thus, the word a-mille-nnial means literally “no-1,000 years”. This is poor terminology because Amillennialist’s do not necessarily believe that there will not be a Millennium. What they teach is that there will not be a Millennium on present earth when Christ will sit on David’s throne and rule over all the nations. To deal with those passages they teach that Christ is reigning now through the hearts of believer’s on earth or by the saints now in heaven. John Walvoord sums up well what Amillennialism teaches.

Had we to give that book a title, we might with justice call it “The Book of the Coming Kingdom of God”. Many names are used in the scripture to describe this millennial kingdom.[1] In Matthew 19:28 Jesus describes it “in regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory”. ...“Critique” Lehman Strauss’s article “Why God Became Man” details several arguments as to why the incarnation of Jesus Christ happened in the manner in which it did. The author states several truths that were affirmed by early Church doctrine at the Council of Chalcedon in A.D. 451. The Council of Chalcedon stated that Christ was both truly man and truly God. The author based on the topic selected and the use of biblical references has an evangelical Christian worldview and adheres to the understanding that the Bible is infallible and inspired, which he displays in this article. ...2 Tim. 3:1 describes these days as “perilous times”, and for good reason, as you will see in the following article. Many people erroneously think that no signs have to happen before the Rapture occurs. This is a myth that unfortunately, exists in many Christian circles and is taught in Seminary, but nothing could be further from the truth. Therefore, it is believed that, because the Apostle Paul and others from the New Testament/ First Century believed the Rapture was imminent and would happen in their lifetime, that our position as Evangelical Christians now should be that there are no signs to watch for in the End Times and therefore the Rapture could happen now or a thousand years from now. I believe this is an incorrect belief, because the signs we are to watch for (Mark 13:32-37) are prophecies still being fulfilled. Obviously, they were not all fulfilled in the First Century. A good twenty-five percent of the Bible is prophecy, and much of it concerns the end times. So it would make complete sense when Jesus commanded us to watch for Him, to be alert for His Trumpet Call as our Blessed Hope and not be discouraged because of the times we are living in. Jesus said to the Pharisees, "[Ye] hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time?"
