Imagine you can never forget. This whole paper, as the reader reads it through, he/she memorizes every sentence, word, and even letter. The idea of an ability like this is amazing, yet it can also be a nightmare. Amos Decker, the main character of David Baldacci’s novel, Memory Man, has this ability. The book is about Mr. Decker trying to chase down a murderer that has killed countless amounts of people, including Decker’s own family. With his special ability, detective work for him is a natural skill. This journal will include character connecting, future events predicting, and idea evaluating. When I think of Amos Decker, the first thing that springs into my head is Sherlock Holmes. Decker is a somewhat less adroit character than the fictional …show more content…
This makes predicting what happens later in the novel interesting. I predict that Decker will find that the murderer will be someone very close to him. There are a few reasons I predict this. This quote strongly supports my prediction, “Good job, Amos. But in the end it won’t get you where you want to go, bro” Baldacci (145). The killer wrote this quote in code and when Amos and the FBI decoded it to unveil that message. This shows that the killer knew that Amos would be helping with the investigation and took the time to tell Amos that he was close, but would never get to the end of the investigation. Strong hints of duplicity are shown when the killer uses the word “bro” at the end of the message. Its almost sinister how the killer messages to Amos that he was very close to him. It is amazing how the killer is like a shadow ☺ (Simile). There is another reason I predict the killer is very close to Amos. The killer seems to know who Mr. Decker is close to. The killer has targeted his family, people at the high school Decker went to as a teen, and an FBI agent that was working on the case with Decker. The killer also knows the address of Decker’s old house and how close Decker is to solving the case. Based on the killer’s actions I have been able to predict that the killer is a very close person to

Memory Man and Macbeth Essay

...negative consequences; consequences that are almost always exaggerated a great deal. In Shakespeare’s Macbeth, the protagonist Macbeth made many decisions to achieve his deepest and darkest desire which was to become king. In order to take a hold of what he wanted he took many huge risks, and in taking those risks he achieved his goal. David Baldacci’s Memory Man and “To Risk” by William Arthur Ward are both works of literature about taking risks, if no risks are taken then no ground can be gained and no rewards can be reaped. Through the rewards of taking a risk, the motivations behind risk taking, and the importance of taking a risk, these works of literature show that in order to achieve a goal, a risk must be taken. Very seldom do people think of the rewards of taking risks and just wallow in the aspects of what could go wrong however, risks need to be taken in order to achieve progress in life. The novel Memory Man was about taking a risk in order to achieve a goal. The protagonist of Memory Man took a risk by walking into his old police precinct disguised while the majority of the police officers were distracted by a serious emergency. “[Amos] knew this was stupid. Insane. He hadn’t been gone that long from the force. He could be recognized at any moment, like with Pete Rourke. But he didn’t care. He really...
