Andrew Carnegie The reason Andrew Carnegie was a good choose for a Bouncing Back is because, as Schlager and Lauer explain, “Andrew Carnegie embodied the 'rags-to-riches' American Dream”(Schlager & Lauer). Andrew Carnegie is known for being the Richest person in history and creating charity's like the Carnegie Carnegie Foundation which build library's, Parks, and teaching educational practice. “During his lifetime, Carnegie gave away over $350 million,”which was about 90% of his wealth (Schlager & Lauer). Andrew Carnegie is one of the best example of what Bouncing-back means after his father died and he had to be the provider of the family from age 20, to becoming one of the worlds richest an most successful men. “Born in Dunfermline, Scotland, on November 25, 1835, Carnegie was the son of a weaver”(Schlager & Lauer). There parents moved them to America after a famine had struck in Scotland in the 1830's to mid- 1850's. “With little formal education, Carnegie went to work at age 13 as a bobbin boy in a cotton mill” (Schlager & Lauer). Then Carnegie went on to be a Telegrapher and Learned how to us it but just hearing the tones of the incoming lines. In the article “Bouncing-back” by Malissa Balmain said “Any positive step you take after a major loss, in fact, can curb anxiety and keep you moving forward”(Balmain). This is Taking Control which this is what Carnegie did by taking odd jobs to help his family make money and providing.
