“An Important Decision that I Made in My Life”

One day I decided to move back to Chicago from Georgia. I moved back to help my mother because she had the flu and needed assistance throughout the day. When I moved back to Chicago I was unemployed and so was my mother. Since neither one of us were employed we needed some excitement and someone to keep us on our toes. So if my niece were to come stay with us that would be awesome for me and the family. Besides, my sister stayed back in Georgia and we hadn’t seen them in a long time. So one important decision I’ve made in my life is to take care of my niece for my sister.

One day my sister called me and asked if I could take care of her daughter while she worked. I was kind of hesitant because my niece was just two years old but I knew my sister would appreciate my help. My niece didn’t go to school at that time and if my response was no then she would’ve had to hire a baby sitter while she worked. My sister was struggling and didn’t have money for a baby sitter. Some time she needed help buying house supplies, or even personal items, so she had to save money.

I felt like since my sister was working and I wasn’t working at the time that I should care for her daughter. My sister got her daughter packed up and they aboard a plane to Chicago. She knew I was doing her an enormous favor and thanked me for watching her daughter. My niece and I went to the park often. I tried to keep my niece busy with activities so she wouldn’t miss her mother or her brothers.

Meanwhile, I considered if I would be a good provider for my niece. I knew I would be the one buying her the items she need. Before my niece got here I remodeled an empty room for her, “but I didn’t consider how much that would be”. I knew I couldn’t go out with my friends as much as I did in the past because I took on another major responsibility. I knew I had to wake up in the middle of the night because my niece was potty training. Also, I would be the one reading to her, teaching her how to speak and teaching her from right and wrong.

Finally, taking care of my niece for my sister was a great experience for me. If I didn’t take care of her my sister wouldn’t be able to work. I knew it was right for me because my niece kept me from having my own baby and she kept me focused.
