An Inconvenient Truth - Limits on the Greenhouse Gas Emissions
With the impact of global warming,Many countries have proposed to limit greenhouse gas emissions to protect the environment. It should not be mandatory for all countries to have a limit on their greenhouse gas emissions regardless of they are a developing country, because limit carbon emissions in developing countries is not fair and if developed countries do not take into account the low-carbon development in developing countries may be lead to more emissions.
Global warming emissions by the developed countries is mainly caused by large quantities of greenhouse gases, the current per capita emissions in developing countries is still far lower than developed countries. However, developing countries in the construction period must be produced to have a lot of pollution, carbon emissions will be high, the West in the development period, too, but the West is a historical account does not count, as the Anglo-American history, 1,100 tons of carbon emissions per capita in China only 66 tons, not counting the historical account is not fair for developing countries. Developed countries can not impose requirements limit carbon emissions in developing countries.

In the class, we saw a movie named An Inconvenient Truth. It told us the same truth, Developed countries should take more responsibility for reducing emissions. They can not ignore the developing and developed countries are at different stages of development. Therefore, the developing and developed countries should not reduce carbon emissions in the same.
The earth is our common home. Every country must protect the environment on Earth. Each country should reduce carbon emissions. Mandatory for all countries to have a limit on their greenhouse gas emissions is good for human. We should proceed from the overall situation, to limit greenhouse gas

An Inconvenient Truth Essay

...Global warming is the term used to describe a gradual increase in the average temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere and its oceans, a change that is believed to be permanently changing the Earth’s climate.Several current trends clearly demonstrate that global warming is directly impacting on rising sea levels, the melting of ice caps and significant worldwide climate changes Even though it is an ongoing debate, it is proved by the scientists that the planet is warming. Topic Sentence 1- causes Scientists have spent decades figuring out what is causing global warming. They've looked at the natural cycles and events that are known to influence climate. But the amount and pattern of warming that's been measured can't be explained by these factors alone. One of the first things scientists learned is that there are several greenhouse gases responsible for warming, and humans enfluence them in a variety of ways.Different greenhouse gases have very different heat-trapping abilities and certain gases in the atmosphere block heat from escaping which doesnt allow heat to reflect back in the space causing temperature to rise. Most come from the consumption of fossil fuels in cars, factories and electricity production. The gas responsible for the most warming is carbon dioxide (Facts of Carbondioxide as years pass and example from movie). Other contributors include methane released from landfills and agriculture (especially from the digestive systems of grazing animals), nitrous oxide from...

Social Justice Essay

...Social Justice Essay Ashley Seeram Most will agree the public needs an educational system beneficial to all, but many people have different opinions on how this can be done and what a beneficial educational system is. There are groups that say division says privatize education, and another group of people who believe charter-schools are not the solution to this problem. Is it important to give the public an option to what they want or need? This question is something really makes you think and wonder about what the public really needs. This essay will discuss the possibilities and that there isn’t a right answer. In the documentary Waiting for Superman, the public education system is viewed as broken. He dubbed the system as drop-out factories; claiming that children are sent in but aren’t given the proper materials or knowledge to complete school. These actions (or lack of actions) lead to a cycle of poverty and crime. In the documentary it is shown that the problem has a solution, also known as charter-schools. According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary it is a school that is established by a charter, it is run by teachers, parents, etc., and uses tax money but does not have to be run according to the rules of a city or state. In simple terms it is a type of private school that has way more resources and material that is beneficial to children and their education. It is shown that through longer school days and unique lesson plans Charter-schools showed greater test scores...

Film

...Essay films are arguably the most innovative and popular forms of filmmaking since the 1990s”, Timothy Corrigan claims in his diligent new study, The Essay Film. Corrigan may have an agenda to press, and a thesis to justify, but the recent critical and commercial success of the genre is hard to ignore. A cinematic wave that arguably has its contemporary roots in the late 1980s, when American filmmakers such as Michael Moore and Errol Morris rose to public prominence, reached an apotheosis with Moore’s hugely popular, though hugely flawed, Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004) and Davis Guggenheim’s information-heavy An Inconvenient Truth (2006), which conjured a compelling piece of screen drama from Al Gore’s Powerpoint presentation. Nowadays, the Award for Best Documentary Feature at the Oscars is one of the most highly coveted. For Corrigan, the essayistic film “describes the many-layered activities of a personal point of view as a public experience”. While this is a perfectly good starting point, the author is so convinced of the elasticity of his subject that he has trouble constraining it under the broader umbrellas of documentary, non-fiction or even fiction. At times it appears that, for Corrigan, all filmmaking is essayistic. Nevertheless, he traces a convincing history of the genre(s) from D. W. Griffith’s prototypical A Corner of Wheat (1909), which contrasts the lives of the agricultural poor with those of their capitalist exploiters, via Dmitri Vertov and Sergei Eisenstein to...

Copenhagen's Inconvenient Truth

...7/20/2010 Copenhagen's Inconvenient Truth September/October 2009 ESSAY Copenhagen's Inconvenient Truth How to Salvage the Climate Conference Michael Levi MICHAEL A. LEVI is David M. Rubenstein Senior Fellow for Energy and the Environment at the Council on Foreign Relations. This December, diplomats from nearly 200 countries will gather in Copenhagen to negotiate a successor to the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, which for the first time bound wealthy countries to specific cuts in greenhouse gas emissions. Most of these emissions come from burning fossil fuels -- coal, oil, and natural gas -- for energy, from deforestation, and from the agricultural sector. They must be cut deeply in the coming decades if the world is to control the risks of dangerous climate change. Most of those devoted to slashing the world's greenhouse gas emissions have placed enormous weight on the Copenhagen conference. Speaking earlier this year about the conference, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon was emphatic: "We must harness the necessary political will to seal the deal on an ambitious new climate agreement in December here in Copenhagen. . . . If we get it wrong we face catastrophic damage to people, to the planet." Hopes are higher than ever for a breakthrough climate deal. For the past eight years, many argued that developing nations reluctant to commit to a new global climate-change deal -- particularly China and India -- were simply hiding behind the United States, whose enthusiastic engagement...

Dumes Day

...Dumes Day Photo’s The Nobel Peace Prize 2007 was awarded to Albert Arnold Gore Jr. and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change for their “efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change and to lay the foundation for the measures that are needed to counter act such change” (nobelpeace.org), through the documentary An Inconvenient Truth. Al Gore has been on the front lines of the war on global warming, and in his words declares that “we should prepare against other threats besides terrorism” (Gore, 2006). In this documentary Gore cites a variety of scientific methods used to convince the public of the devastating effects of global warming. One of these scientific methods used to support his point is the use of photographs to demonstrate the destruction caused by global warming in places such as Mount Kilimanjaro. In this specific instance he informs the viewer that “within the decade, there will be no more snows of Kilimanjaro,” (Gore, 2006) and uses a photo taken 30 years ago compared to a photo taken in 2005 to illustrate this statement. Researchers and Scientists must reframe from using photographs as supporting evidence for their findings on global warming, because photographs have only been in existence since 1826, photographs can be altered, and they evoke powerful emotive effects on the viewer that are not based on facts. After many attempts and many failures, “[t]he first permanent photograph was made in 1826 by Joseph Niephore...

History of Consciousness: Religion and Politics

...fantasy? As humans, we naturally experience the world analogically by recognizing infinite patterns of data throughout our mundane lives, while digitally we must submit to a finite code or password to identify ourselves to the digital community. In turn, by manipulating and possibly falsifying virtual identities, one can live an alternate, and sometimes dangerous, life through creation of an artificial self, through prosthetic vision and creation of the cyborg. The modernity of humans communicating through machines and developing a highly complex reflective system of digital information that relies on the analog world to input material knowledge suggests that seeking and attaining justice in the analog world is a virtualization exercise. This essay will discuss the connections between virtual and actual identities, the role of the monotheistic God according to Milton’s Paradise Lost and examples of how ethics are experienced within virtual and actual worlds. The ruler of the cosmos, or a person’s God/Higher Power, has a direct influence on determining which persons are judged as fit to be a trusting friend or a doubting enemy. This already creates an...

Famine Inheritance And Morality By Peter Singer Summary

...Munachonga Banji David St. Aubin PHL 102-004 November 10, 2016 Commentary In the essays “Famine, Affluence and Morality” by Peter Singer and “Poverty and Parenthood” by Stuart Rachel, both authors argue on their different viewpoint of what is morally right when it comes to preventing suffering and what hinders us to prevent or reduce that suffering. They both agree that donation to charity to reduce suffering is a short term solution, while reducing the population on the planet is a permeant solution to the suffering of starvation. They argue that it is our individual duty to make reasonable choices that will help prevent the suffering, but their view on what these choices are differs. In his essay, Perter Singer argues that affluent nations have the duty to prevent avoidable poverty and death in poorer nations. He states that our negative actions towards the suffering caused by poverty and death are not justifiable. By ignoring the suffering, we as a society are taking life for...

Marketing Histories

...Marketing Histories Essay Marketing has become a fundamental part of our society in recent years, maturing into an integral part of any organisations to help maximise sales and profits. Its first major impact on companies and businesses began to take hold in post world war U.S.A, when consumers wanted to make up ‘for lost time’ from the depressive and stagnant years of war (Benton, 1987, OM&P) marketing presented an opportunity to finally make this happen. As time progressed marketing took a significant shift to a more customer-based approach, making them the very much the centerpiece. This evolution stemmed from mass production of products from homogeneous to heterogeneous and the vast array of competition that had been released to the masses. Relationship marketing was a much-needed asset to help find a way to differentiate between companies and organisations, which still very much holds a presence today and no doubt will in the future, too. As marketers became savvier and more in touch with the commercial market, they realised that they could design a concept that would help maximize sales for a company, and consequently make as much profit for them as possible. This ‘concept’ was to be known as the marketing mix paradigm, and it originally consisted of 12 different variables which were proposed by Borden in 1954, these were: product, price branding, distribution, personal selling, advertising, promotions, packaging, display, servicing, physical handling, fact...

...Andreas Balasis 4/25/15 Mark Zeigler Persuasive Essay 1 “According to news reporters, every year it’s getting warmer, these violent weather patterns, some say it’s just nature’s karma.” These lyrics from Tallahassee’s own, Dead Prez, go to show the immutable fact that “global warming” is applicable terminology for our current state of existence. I believe it is beyond our intellectual capacity to examine whether or not the weather is changing, because any rational person could do the research and understand that it is quite apparent. If Dead Prez isn’t credible enough, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, “Scientific evidence for warming of the climate system is unequivocal”. The only thing I can conceivable try to persuade people of, is that we are living within system a being ran by incomprehensibly short sighted and perceivably destructive people. This essay will examine the idiocracy of Republican leaders in Florida, the economic manipulation behind environmental destruction, and simple solutions to a simple problem. “I’m not scientist, man”. These are the words of Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) He is also quoted saying, “I do not believe that human activity is causing the dramatic changes to our climate the way scientists are portraying it”. I think that’s pretty hysterical, given the fact that this man, who is not a scientist, was appointed a chair on the Subcommittee on Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries, and Coast Guard. G Local Warming

...English 1012, GW Essay Global warming, by definition is the increase in the Earth's ocean and near surface temperatures. In the last several decades, there have been numerous debates regarding global warming. The vast majority of the scientific community now agrees that global warming is caused by the increase in greenhouse gasses, but there is an ongoing debate on whether the increase is due to human activity or from natural sources, such as volcanoes and forest fires. The controversy gained a lot of public attention in 2005 when politician and former Vice President Al Gore created a documentary titled An Inconvenient Truth. The documentary was a compilation of scientific research, theories, and facts that served to blame human activity as the culprit of global warming. The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) created the Kyoto Protocol in response to the threats associated with global warming (Hawkins 1). The Kyoto Protocol is an agreement among industrialized nations whom have pledged to reduce their annual emission of greenhouse gasses. The protocol currently consists of over 160 nations representing over 55% of the world's greenhouse gases. Ironically, the United States, the biggest contributor of greenhouse gases, accounts for 20.6% of the worlds greenhouse gases, and has not signed the protocol (Clemmit). Our nation's political leaders are at a debate on whether money should be spent in order to decelerate or prevent global warming. George W...
