The Renaissance was a cultural movement. It was the beginning of the modern world. During the Renaissance period, many artists’ works were devoted to Christianity. Artists used oil media on wood panel supports. Oil paintings showed perspective. Matthias Grünewald was one of the artists during the Renaissance.
One of Matthias’ painting was, The Temptation of Saint Anthony. It was painted during 1512-1516 . He was known as the greatest German Renaissance artist who made religious paintings with intense color. Using oil on wood, Matthias created a painting that’s expressive and powerful to the eyes. This artwork shows Saint Anthony in the Egyptian desert facing supernatural temptations.
