Analyzing Themes In Ayn Rand's Anthem

Anthem has many themes. There are a few that stood out to me. One is, it’s okay to be different. My second theme is, the truth does not always set you free. My last theme I will be talking about is, follow what you believe in. These themes all have something in common that you should do what you think is write. Something/ someone might not set you free, that can make you different, but you believe in what your heart tells you. Right from the start of the book Equality 7-2521 says “We are twenty-one years old. We are six feet tall, and this is a burden, for there are not many men who are six feet all.” Teachers and leaders have been telling him since he was young that there was evil in his bones. That being different was a bad thing. Teachers and Leaders would tell him “For your body has grown beyond the bodies of your brothers.” But in the end of the book Equality 7-2521 has embraced his looks. Equality says “We sat still and we held our breath. For our face and our body were beautiful. Our face was not like the faces of our brothers, for we felt no pity when looking upon it.” Everything that anyone has ever said to him was gone when he saw his reflection in the stream. Equality 7-2521 tried to show the World Council of Scholars his finding on light. He told them about everything, about the tunnel he was hiding all his findings. How he escaped from the Palace of Corrective Detention. The Council was not please at all. They wanted Equality 7-2521 to be punished for what he has done. Collective 0-0009 said “We have much to say to a wretch who have broken all the laws and who boast of their infamy. How dared you think that your mind held greater wisdom than the minds of your brothers?” So, Equality 7-2521 called them fools for not understanding. He ran to the Uncharted Forest.
