The author of “The Hero’s Test” shows that Theseus is a hero due to his courage and intelligence. The author, Alisoun Witting, gave a lot of evidence that Theseus shows these two traits.
Theseus shows courage because he never backs down, even when he is frightened. Theseus shows this in the text, saying, “I will kill the Minotaur myself, and free Athens from this disgraceful tribute to Minos.” This means that he is willing to give himself to Minos for the sake of his people, even if he is scared of doing so.
Theseus shows intelligence by figuring out the guards poisoned the drinks they gave him, so he poured the drink into the stone of the room. This shows that Theseus knows what will happen if he drinks the wine.
