Through scripture it is clear that God intends that man would invest that which is provided to him. The teachings of Jesus impart the Divine will that His people invest and bear the risk of loss. It is also evident that Scripture established a pattern of risk and reward. The gospel of Matthew verses 14-30 records the Biblical principles of investing. Known as the Parable of the Talents, this portion of scripture tells the story of three individuals endued with five, two, and, one talent respectively. Those that received five and two talents invested the talents and reaped rewards from their endeavors. The master in the parable commends those who ventured out in business and took risks. Likewise, the one talent servant who was afraid and hid the talent is characterized as slothful and chastised harshly by the Master. It is evident from this parable that the Master seeks gains on His investment. At a minimum it is expected that resources would gain a rate of interest consistent with low-risk investment. The master reproves the one-talent servant for not at least gaining nominal interest returns on the resources entrusted to him. Edith was embarrassed of many aspects in her life,living in a boarding house and having a father who went to jail. Self confidence issues made her life much more harder than it already was. For example, on page 54, anointed was a word I never knew or heard before. According to Merriam Webster, the definition was "to put oil on (someone) as part of a religious ceremony". With the context of the sentence on page 54, it made sense because the maidservants were giving Telemachus and Peisistratus baths, and they put oil on them later on. Another word I did not know was altars (on page 36). According to the Oxford English Dictionary, this definition was "a block, table, stand, or other raised structure with a flat top used as the focus for a religious ritual, especially for making sacrifices or offerings to a god or gods". Previously, I assumed the altars were the Pylos men's staffs. However, after reading this definition, it made sense because during those times, people were greatly religious, and it makes sense altars were actually structures that were used for religious festivities and sacrifices. 3...
