Ayn Rand is an author who had written Atlas Shrugged, then had written other articles and essays on her philosophy. She was a big believer in ethical egoism, or what she would then call “Objectivism”, as said in the Mike Wallace Interview in 1959. She explains that objectivism is “a philosophy that reality exists on an objective absolute. That man’s mind/reason is his way of perceiving it. Man needs irrational morality.” Ayn Rand put this philosophy into her book, Anthem, which is about a world in the future where the government controls everything one sees, does, and who they even are. Everyone in the documentary of North Korea was raised to treat Kim Jong Il like a god, but in Anthem they weren’t even allowed to think of someone as higher than anyone else or even think of themselves in a higher position than anyone else. What wikipedia has called it is a cult of personality, which is “when an individual uses mass media, propaganda,” etc to make themselves look like a great leader. On a website, there have been showings of the dear leader using propaganda to make himself and the country look better. The website described the propaganda as the following, “1) The leaders and their greatness, especially Kim Il Sung, 2) images of the North Korean military and its might, 3) negative depictions of the US and South Korea, and 4) images of North Korean people living joyous and sunshiny lives.” Basically describes it as a sign that the country worships it’s dear leader. “In Anthem, their great saying was “We are one in all and all in one. There are no men but only the Great WE, One, indivisible and forever.” This is saying that there is not greater one, everyone is equal and that it can’t be changed no matter what.
To conclude, the two subjects can both be compared and contrasted like it’s grown to love their leader or community but is also only ruled by one person, or it’s equality for all. The both of them are very controversial in their similarities and differences. The book Anthem is still used today in politics and can only be more relevant now with North
