Ap Lang Reflection

Throughout my second semester of AP Lang, I have learned an abundance of information in regards to what it means to be a good writer and analyzer. This semester was challenging in a way that is preparing me greatly for future english classes at Iowa State. New skills were introduced to me, making it easy to be proud of myself for the work I put in, ending with grades that reflected this effort. My overall knowledge on the active writing process, revision stages and analytical skills has increased immensely, allowing myself to feel greatly prepared for the many future classes that will benefit from my learning. Through the many course outcomes of this class, I have been able to improve my overall writing skills.

Although having one source to write a paper can be good in some cases, being able to rely on multiple sources to back up the given information, creates a sense of credibility as it is clear a person has done proper research. While writing my APA paper, my annotated bib became a primary source, as I relied on it for most of the information I included. While integrating the facts and statistics from my annotated bib, I used my profile as a secondary source to fill in any gaps and provide personal anecdotes to make the paper more interesting. For example, when writing about the benefits of adoption through the statistics I found in my annotated bib, I was able to incorporate my cousin’s adoption story from my profile to add a real life connection. This course taught me how to increase credibility in any paper, as I had never used more than one source in my writing before. Clear credibility is shown especially when providing a fact that can be proven by multiple sources, then being able to cite both to show how much research took place. By including multiple different citations, the audience is more likely to believe the information, therefore making any form of writing more …show more content…
Beginning with a basic outline, I was then able to fill in the gaps with facts and statistics from my sources. After filling in the outline, I would turn to my research, especially my annotated bibliography, in order to add to the basic ideas previously written out. When completing my original draft, I would then continue to make revisions by checking for misspellings, improper grammar, or ineffective use of diction and syntax. Although I was taught how to write a paper a long time ago, it is now a much more natural process. Progressing from the basic outline to a nicely thought out paper, has made me feel closer to a college level writer, and more prepared for next fall at Iowa

Outliers Reflection

...Tronlyn Thompson Alsobrook AP Lang 23 March 2015 Outliers – Chapter One Reflection In chapter one, Gladwell discusses the importance of opportunity and chance in the role of success. It is really interesting that trend of hockey players’ birthdates was relatively common, and amongst other sports as well. I never really understood that cut-off dates played a huge role in a person’s success, but that success isn’t just because of their birthdate, it’s because of the extra bodily maturation, the extra instruction, and the extra time spent perfecting a talent. My brother was born in July, and I’m now interested in seeing what his path will be, athletically. Gladwell really touches on how society chooses to ignore the fact that a child’s birth month ultimately determines if they make it or not. After this premise was found, there should have been some discussion about making the chances even. Gladwell’s language and word usage makes the book an extremely easy read, and his breakdown of different topics keeps the reader intrigued and also ready to move along to the next circumstance. I’m sure he structures his chapters the way he does because he wants the reader to blatantly recognize the different situations. Titling the chapter “The Matthew Effect” was clever. Once making the connection between the actual biblical passage and the true actualities of success, one can see that success has been a universal goal for quite some time. It’s also reassuring to see that the...

Ngườibáo tin là Josephine, chị của nàng, bằng những câu đứt quảng đầy ngụ ýnửa bộc lộ, nửa che dấu. Richards, bạn của người chồng, cũng có mặt, kềbên. International News on the Internet: Why More Is Less

...International News on the Internet: Why more is less Chris Paterson This study examines the intersection of news agency political economy and cyberspace information exchange between 2001 and 2006 in an effort to determine if online news has corrected – or replicated – the inequities and limitations of the international journalism provided by ‘traditional media’. Through comparisons of content at major online news sites and the output of major news wholesalers, this research is the first to demonstrate that the international news most online users consult is that of just two news agencies. This research finds an online news environment with little real information diversity – a situation at odds with a decade and a half of fervour for the democratizing potential of new media. Keywords: News agencies, online journalism, Reuters, associated press, news sources, international news New media have often been deemed inherently democratizing and liberating, offering the prospect of freeing us all from a long standing dependence on a few powerful information providers and the “mainstream” discourse they offer. McNair (2003) hailed recent internet evolution and its infinite possibilities for horizontal communication, the demystification and deprofessionalization of journalism, and endless information choice, suggesting that the chaos of the contemporary communications environment may lay to rest concerns about the power of traditional media monoliths upholding the status...

...Parliament of Australia Department of Parliamentary Services Parliamentary Library Information, analysis and advice for the Parliament RESEARCH PAPER www.aph.gov.au/library 26 May 2010, no. 17, 2009–10, ISSN 1834-9854 Budget Review 2010–11 Last year’s Budget was framed amid a sharply deteriorating world economy which was considered the most challenging global economic conditions since the Great Depression. In 2009, the global economy contracted for the first time in the post-war era. In contrast, Australia grew by almost 1.5 per cent supported by monetary and fiscal policy stimulus, a well-functioning banking system, and strong growth in a number of East Asian economies. The third Rudd Government Budget, presented on 11 May 2010, was developed within an improving but still uncertain outlook, with events in Greece and other European Union countries reminding us of the risks to the global economic recovery. Strong economic growth in China and India is expected to continue to flow throughout the region and, despite a slower pace, the US is leading the recovery among our advanced economy major trading partners. Global economic growth is in the early stages of recovery but we should remain cognisant of the precarious economic environment which is continuing to challenge government policy makers around the globe. Once again the Parliamentary Library has produced the annual Budget Review that examines the key features of a selection of crucial measures contained...
