Color usually appear as a surface of the object ,in the other hand color act as a coat or device for the object to disguise itself ,so the true story is hidden inside the manipulative surface . Conceivably ,color is a powerful tool that can cause a loss of consciousness , delusion and a loss of mind ,even though color has massive power to manipulate the truth of the object within ,but it does not always dominate everyone’s mind.
There are many ways to fall into color. Begin with ,Cosmetic color. Cosmetic color is less disastrous kind but in the same time is also dangerous kind. Even though cosmetic color has appealing appearance to seduce us but in the end this kind of color often end up in a Fall. Cosmetic color has power to hold our attention but at one point it does not have place within things or it can be rubbed off because cosmetic color is applied on the surface of thing therefore cosmetic color is superficial and it is thinner than the skin onto which it is applied. Metaphorically ,to color is to adorn , to disguise or to misrepresent the truth within. For that reason ,color Cosmetic is similar to drug and can be compared to female in term of seduction and illustrating illusion. Cosmetic color has ability to make the object more appealing even though the truth of that object is actually hideous. Cosmetic color aim to confuse and seduce , to fake and cover up.
Barthes writes in Camera Lucida and he state that color was a coating applied later on the original truth of the black and white photograph, for me ,color is an artifice. Mean that color is a coating that distort the truth of the object within or distort the original and in Barthes case the original truth is black and white photograph.
In western philosophy , western philosophy usually dealing with depth and surface , essence and appearance between the profound and superficial. In western philosophy color is considered as a double illusion or a double deception because color is not at the wrong end but beyond the end by mean of if the object also has a mask and color was applied on the mask this mean that color create double deception. Plato claim that color of rhetoric was false and artificial , immortal and unnatural.
The strong evidence of these accuses that claim that color is seductive , distorting the truth and eventually leading to a Somruthaifall of disaster is from Des Essientes’s study of flowers. At first he compare flowers and their color as precious stones and he believed that flowers are of nature rather than against it. He began his research by classifying flowers in term of social class. During his research he became obsess with those artificial color and got lost with animal’s color. In the end he becomes exhausted by those dazzling colors and flowers eventually transform into a woman. He states that “ it all comes down to syphilis in the end. Within days, most of the flowers are dying or dead." Des Essientes is caught in the spell of color. And he found out that without color there is no life because color is a kind of corruption that bring disease and death without these aspects life cannot be completed.
All painting is cosmetic. One of the interesting painting is Andy Warhol’s painting. All of his work , color is very artificial; it could be rubbed off and washed away but sometime colors were intended to be wash away by himself. Distinction of form and color is arbitrary. Warhol’s color destroys volume , space and modeling or more directly cosmetic is everywhere.
Another example of seduction of color is Pleasantville. Color makes an unexpected appearance in grey background. The grey or back and white background represent stability , everyone and everything circulate in completely frictionless. The appearance of color covey the uncertain of situation ,in other word something is not regularly circulate to where it suppose to be as usual or the colors are conveying passionate feelings for example when teenagers having sex , listening to music and dancing they become colored. Pleasantville tells us that color is uncertain and changeable ,but without the colors there exists only the law and home.
In conclusion , when it comes to color there are many different directions that colors perform themselves. As we can see from above paragraphs ,we have seen color came into the world and manipulate human’s mind, we have seen it rubbed out , we have seen it covered cover and seduce our mind. But in my opinion ,color does not always create great effect to everyone’s mind. It depends on how one appreciates things ,colors can be eliminated if we appreciate the pure form of the object ,even though color has strong power to manipulate human mind as a drug but it can be intoxicated.
