Understanding Today’s Worldview Worldview is a term referring to how an individual perceives the world, what they believe to be true and what they do not. Every person on this earth, regardless of their religious affiliations or not, should have a “worldview”. Barna Research Group conducted a nationwide survey in which they were able to conclude that only a rough 4 percent of Americans had a “biblical” worldview. This is both startling and unsettling given the fact that 83 percent of Americans identify themselves as Christians. When Barna conducted his survey, he also correlated a person’s worldview with their moral beliefs and actions. The Bible is the most owned book in America yet many Americans only understand a very small percentage of what’s inside, nor do they understand how the Bible correlates to their life and the meaning. The author of Understanding the Times, David Noebel, defined what exactly a worldview is when he said, “It’s any ideology, philosophy, theology, movement or religion that provides an overarching approach to understanding God, the world and man’s relations to God and the world.” Whether knowingly or unknowingly, every person young and old has a worldview. From the young toddler who believes they are the center of the universe, to the Muslim extremist who believes by dying in the name of Allah will earn them many virgins in their afterlife. As a Christian, our worldview should be that our primary existence on this Earth is to share and serve our creator. A Christians biblical worldview is based on the flawless Word of God. The foundation of every action you do and don’t do all falls back on believing the Bible in whole. As a Christian, your worldview can consist of many things, but most importantly it should consist on the primary foundations that you live what you

...Worldview Heather R. McCormick APOL 104 March 5, 2012 Dr. Brent Kelly Worldview A worldview is the way one person interprets their lives and makes decisions based upon their interpretations. Worldview could be that of good or bad decisions depending on one’s lifestyle and upbringing. A person’s worldview is affected by the way they were raised, educated, friends, surroundings and environments (Weider & Gutierrez, 2011). In Biblical/Christian worldview the origin comes from God the creator which is the first cause. Genesis 1;1, concludes that god created the heavens and earth, meaning that God created them from merely nothing which is why there is something. Psalam139:1316, David said that God is his creator meaning that God is the origin of life itself (Weider & Gutierrez, 2011). In Biblical/Christian worldview the identity comes from Mankind. It is considered the creation of god above all matters except for the angels and God is eternal which in good practice leads to eternal life in the heavens above. Psalm 8:5 states that God created mankind above the animals and below the angels so therefore it is mankind that is the protector of the animals and angels of mankind, as does Genesis 2:15 states that we should take care of the animals and protect the earth by using its natural resources (Weider & Gutierrez, 2011). In Biblical/Christian worldview John 17:3 uses the bible as the way to reach out to mankind. The purpose is to become closer with God and build...

Worldview

...Worldview Biblical Worldview “A worldview is the framework from which we view reality and make sense of life and the world.”[1] says David Noebel, author of Understanding the Times. When you begin to think about worldview as it pertains to religion, it is simply the belief that forms your actions and reactions to life. A worldview can be personal, biblical, scientific. Everyone has a view or an opinion and/or a belief about religion. The atheist even believe, they believe there is no God, it is however a belief. One may ask, how are those beliefs formed? Is it when our children and our parents decide for us by teaching us what has been taught to them by their parents? One may feel that it is by tradition that we form our beliefs. This makes sense to us because it is what made sense to our parents, to their parents, and so on. As a child, I became a Christian because my biblical worldview began with my parents and grandparents. They took me to church every Sunday and I attended Sunday school where I began studying and learning of God’s word. I learned if you want to have eternal life you must believe in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Once we have formed our beliefs, what guides us daily, what give us awareness of right and wrong? For Christians our roadmap is the Bible and for Muslims it is the Qur’an and for Jews it is the Tanakh. We have learned that God inspired the Bible. The Bible is the recordation of events that happen...

...World View Assignment-Apol 104 Part I After the reading assignments this week I believe a worldview is a set of basic principals about live. It’s what we use to help us understand life You can think if of it like a “lens” though which we see life. “Someone with a biblical worldview believes his primary reason for existence is to love and serve God.” Part II 1. When we think about origin through the Christian worldview, the first “tool” we should think about is. The bible is the first “stepping stone” for the Christian worldview; it’s what we use to base our beliefs on, and how we know that God is the almighty creator. Genesis 1:24 and Genesis 2:7 are good supporting scripture references that talk about how God is the creator, thus the origin of Christian worldview is formed. 2. The bible says that God created man and women in his image and that we are a “unique creation.” Knowing that God only created US in him image and nothing else helps us answer the questions of identity. Genesis 1:27 and 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 are scripture references that further reiterate that man was formed in God’s image and we should be respectful of ourselves because “our body is a temple of the Holy Spirit.” 3. In my opinion the purpose of life as far as biblical worldview is concerned is so that man will come to know and accept Jesus Chris as their Lord and Savior. 2 Corinthians 5:15 let’s us know that Jesus died for us, and paid for our sins. He did this so that we may...

...The Author The Professor APOL 104 The Date Determining a Personal Worldview Part I What is a worldview? One’s worldview is the lens through which you envision your existence. It is conceived, developed and refined over a lifetime of experiences. Personal beliefs, biases, preconceptions, morals and social behavior, among other aspects, are influenced by previous events in your lifetime. A complete biblical worldview is supported by five separate criteria as seen in Part II. Part I word count: 56 Part II Foundational Questions of a Biblical Worldview 1. The Question of Origin: A biblical worldview presupposes, and is plainly stated in Genesis 1:1 (New American Standard Bible) that a one true God exists and that He created everything. Once that assumption is made, it logically follows that we all are of God and belong to God. Psalm 100:3 supports this claim. The question of origin is truly the basis of the Christian faith. 2. The Question of Identity: In Genesis 1:26, God created man and woman in his image and granted humans power over members of the animal world. If man weren’t valued above animals, why would He have sent his only Son to the world as a human? There is, however, value to all things He has created. Matthew 6:26 acknowledges the value of, and love for, animals. 3. The Question of Meaning/Purpose: For ages, man has questioned his reason for existing. We exist to glorify God, as stated in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. A relationship...

...Worldview Assignment Submitted to Professor Marks, in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the completion of the course, APOL 104 D27 LUO Contemporary Worldviews Liberty University Online By Ryan Mapleton 4/6/2015 Defining Worldview A worldview is the person’s philosophy about life, a framework a person bring to decision-making, and a filter or lens which a person uses to interpret life and the word around them. The Biblical Worldview Origin The usual questions that are asked when finding the question of origin are “How did life begin?” and “How did mankind come into existence?” In biblical worldview, God is the reason that everything exist. The Bible says “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). It is professed by the psalmist, David that God is his creator (Psalms 136: 13 -16). Identity “What does it mean to be human?” and “Are humans more important than animals?” are the questions asked to seek the answer of the question of identity. In biblical worldview, God created mankind above the animal because it says in the bible that men and women were created in Gods image. The bible tells us that we are supposed to take of the animals (Genesis 1:26-27). Psalms 8:5 states that man was created “little lower than angels.” Meaning and Purpose The specific question that is mainly asked to answer the question of meaning and purpose is that “Why does mankind exist?” or “Why do I exist?” In the biblical worldview, it’s about...

...COURSE DESCRIPTION This is a study in the development and application of the Biblical/Christian Worldview. This course will include an introduction and application of critical thinking skills, as well as a study of religious and philosophical worldviews, the nature of tolerance and basic apologetic methodology. RATIONALE APOL 104 is designed to deepen and broaden the student’s understanding of the core fundamentals of the Biblical/Christian Worldview, and to equip the student to present that view in the face of competing worldviews. The goal is to enable students to think more clearly and critically about Christianity and truth. It is also the goal to equip Christians to become more effective witnesses and participate more constructively in the larger socio-cultural debate. In order to accomplish this goal, we must (1) understand the essentials of Christian truth, (2) understand the historical opponents to Christianity and truth, and (3) present a biblical, logical, and reasonable defense of Christianity. Through studying worldviews, students can better understand the nature of humanity and individual conduct so that they are prepared to address relevant questions in a culture of relativism. As the apostle Paul states, “Know how you should respond to each person who asks us about such things” Col. 4:6 (NASB). By understanding worldviews, one acquires a powerful form of wisdom that characterized the sons of Issachar, “men who understood the times, with knowledge of what...

...Worldview APOL 104 Sept. 9, 2012 Part One: What is a worldview? Worldview can be defined as the way a person makes determinations and analyzes the things occurring globally around them. The worldview is formed through a person’s experiences and viewpoints. 29 Part Two: Biblical/Christian Worldview 1. Origin – Those who believe in the biblical/Christian Worldview, see God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit as one entity. All of the things that we see were made out of nothing (ex nihilo) in six days. On day one God said let there be light and then divided the light and darkness. On day two God created Heaven (a firmament) and separated the waters under Heaven from the waters above. Next, God created Earth, the seas, and plant life on day three. On day four the sun, moon, and stars were created to give light upon the earth. On day five God made the whales and other creatures of the sea and birds and blessed them to be abundant. On day six cattle beasts and creatures of earth were created. Finally, man was created in the image of God, male and female. Then on day seven God rested. (Gen. 1-2) (Isaiah 45:12) 151 2. Worldview serves as the basis for how someone will judge themselves and others. A person’s worldview dictates their perception of reality and how they will live their life daily. (Part I count: 65) Part II The Question of Origin God is seen as the creator of everything. He is said to have created everyone and everything out of nothing. Biblical Worldview

...Worldview Assignment APOL 104- D09 July 15, 2013 Worldview Assignment A worldview is shaped by the opinions, thoughts and conclusions of others, such as parents, teachers, media, friends and our religious leaders. What we receive from these sources will play an important role for years to come in defining who we are as individuals, our belief systems, how we view our fellowman, the schools we attend and where we live. In addition, it affects morality and how we define right and wrong, social and political issues. The way we view the world has a direct correlation to our decision-making, which will not only impact our lives in a positive or negative manner, but those around us. The Bible tells us that God created the heavens and the earth and everything in it for his glory (Gen 1:1). The Universe did not come into existence by happenstance as the Secularist would have you to believe, but the work of intelligent design (John 1:3). The Bible is the standard by which the Christian Biblical Worldview is framed and our standard for living. Humanity began when God articulated that He was the architect of it. God took dust from the ground and created Adam and breathed life in him, and out of Adam came Eve. What makes humanity so special is that we were not spoken into existence, but sculptured by the loving hand of God, in his image and likeness. We did not evolve from the animal kingdom as Darwinism states. Humanity is unlike any other creation of God; we were...

Contemporary Worldviews

...Worldview APOL 104: Contemporary Worldviews Spring 2014 APA 01/29/2014 Worldview When the topic of what a worldview is comes up it takes on many different interpretations, all of which are based on the individual. A worldview can be described as the way that an individual interprets their environment. The very way we look at life, death, our values, our faith, and right and wrong are impacted by our upbringing, life experiences, and environment. Simply stated, it is your take on life, our “underlying philosophy of life.”(Gutierrez and Weider 2011). As already stated, a worldview is based on a variety of factors. This is true no matter the background a person comes from. Christians and atheists may have different worldviews because a Christian worldview is based upon the premise that God exists and the atheist bases their view on the premise that God does not exist. I will discuss the biblical/Christian worldview and my interpretation of it. There are five things to consider when discussing one’s worldview and they are the questions of Origin, Identity, Meaning/Purpose, Morality and Destiny. The Question of Origin states that everything that exists does so through the will of God, the Creator. It answers the question of where do we come from? The Christian belief is that in the beginning there was God and that things did not come into existence just by chance, matter colliding, but through God. Two relevant references from scripture are Genesis 1:1 which...
