Reading Strategies Worksheet

Identify two reading goals, one short-term and one long-term.

• Long-term reading goal: Read before you mark • Short-term reading goal: Think before you mark

Write a 100- to 150-word response to each of the following questions:

• How do you currently approach the weekly readings in the course?

At the beginning of each week, I look over what readings we will be doing for the current week. I go through first what sections are required to read first. I skim through the rest of the text. After reading the assigned text, I then go back and read each highlighted section. I take key notes on the main ideas for each section. I try to make if brief so I am not overwhelmed with information. I use words or phrases that will help me remember what I have read in the text.

• How might you incorporate three of the suggestions covered this week into your study time?

The four steps in active reading are Previewing, Marking, Reading with concentration, and Reviewing. I plan to incorporate all of the steps in my study time. The breakdown in the reading steps helps me on what I need to be focusing on. By using all steps, it can make my study time go more smoothly, rather then it being too lengthy.

• How might this plan help you accomplish your reading goals?

Being that I can never fully remember what I have read, this plan should help me with my reading goals. The steps are broken down to where it helps me understand on how to read correctly. For myself these steps in active reading is teaching me to be more efficient in reading texts. This will help me reach my reading goals without the stress of feeling I have to go back and start all over

Bells Palsy

...Bell’s palsy as a minor health subject for critical analysis for three principal reasons. Firstly, it is the most common disorder affecting the facial nerves (Ardour, 1978). Secondly, research has noted that there appears little consensus in the literature regarding the causes and management of Bell’s palsy. Additionally the diagnosis is one of elimination. Tiemstra and Khatkhate (2007) demonstrate there are many other conditions which can mimic symptoms (See appendix one). I therefore wanted to analyse the available literature in order to be able to competently and safely recognise the condition in the urgent unscheduled care environment. Background Petruzelli (1991) states that Bell’s palsy is an acute paralysis of the facial nerve first described by the Scottish surgeon and anatomist, Sir Charles Bell . Niparko (1993) elaborates that it is a generally unilateral paralysis or weakness of facial musculature consistent with facial nerve damage and dysfunction. The anatomy of the facial nerve can be found in appendix two. Pietersen (2002) states that the cause is unknown, however, whilst the exact aetiology of Bell’s palsy is still debated, viral infections, vascular ischaemia, autoimmune inflammatory disorders and heredity have been postulated as causative. (Adour 1982, Burgess 1984, Lorber 1996). Murakami et al (1996) proposed that reactivation of herpes simplex virus in the geniculate ganglia was causative. A herpes simplex cause is corroborated by Stjernquist-Desatnik...

Assimilation of Consonant in English and of the Indefinite Article in Arabic

...In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful Hebron University Faculty of Graduate Studies English Department Assimilation of Consonants in English and Assimilation of the Definite Article in Arabic By Hamada Shehdeh Abid Dawood ‫حمادة داود‬ Supervised by Dr. Ahmad Atawneh 2013/2014 Assimilation of Consonants in English and Assimilation of the Definite Article in Arabic Abstract This paper aims at discussing the term assimilation. Assimilation is a phonological process where a sound looks like another neighboring sound. It includes progressive, regressive, coalescent, full and partial assimilation. In addition, contextual assimilation is subject to the environment of sounds where historical assimilation is resulted from the development of languages. In Arabic, it is clear that the /l/ sound in the definite article disappears if followed by coronal consonants. It is, however, concluded that the importance of assimilation is to make pronunciation of a word or speech easier. 1. Introduction Assimilation is an everyday occurrence in every human language, and it is particularly common for nasal sounds (McMahon, 2002, p. 4). Thus, sounds in the environment of other sounds, across morpheme and word boundaries tend to undergo various phonological changes referred to as phonological processes (Ofulue et al, 2010, p. 49). Making a sound more like another in the same or next word in continuous utterance is called assimilation (Oxford Dictionary, 2008)...

We can’t accurately predict without referring time series estimation. Gold is a precious yellow commodity once used as money. Illegal couple years ago, now once again is accepted as a potential currency, because of the falling of dollar against the Euro and also the rising of uncertainty in our geopolitical environment. Objective of this study is to develop a forecasting model for predicting gold prices based on two currency price movements and the oil price movements.
