In the Hollywood blockbuster Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark, archaeology is portrayed as a perilous adventure filled with enemies and confrontation at every turn. The main protagonist and archaeologist, Indiana Jones is a swashbuckling scientist who is constantly hunting and securing priceless objects and artifacts. The opening scene of the film is clear evidence of archaeology being depicted as a hazardous occupation. For example, one of the men with Dr. Jones (Indy) attempts to attack him with a pistol while Jones’s back is turned. This is not the only betrayal Indiana Jones would end up facing. This move is the spark that ignites people of all ages into a great love for the action/adventure genre and it takes you on a 115-minute thrill ride. Each scene allows every person watching to have a connection with the storyline. This move has inspired and challenged many writers, directors and producers to challenge their own selves when including archeology, shifting sands, mysteries of the past, heroes and heroines. This is a modern high action/adventure movie; all others must now be measured by it. The movie cost 22 million dollars to make, however it reaped 200 million dollars during its first run. It also won numerous awards from ceremonies such as the American Academy Awards, British Academy Awards, Golden Globes and the list goes on. The Raiders of the Lost Ark is number 60 on the top 100 films of all time. The producers, actors, locations of the filmmaking, the reminiscence of the older movie era and the hints of a Christian culture, were all detrimental to the making of this movie. They were the key to success and if any of these main points were changed, the movie would not have prospered.
