“Don’t have sex. You will get pregnant, and you will die.” This quote from the hit movie Mean Girls earned lots of laughs from audiences everywhere. However, in today’s society we are taught ever since we are little that sexuality is unnatural and against the morals of the society we live in. The things teenagers are being taught are not in a laughing matter. While we are very strict on sex before marriage, not everyone will make that choice. The hormones rushing through the adolescent brain needs to be taught that, yes waiting until marriage is an option, but if you choose to not wait that’s okay. Comprehensive sex education will teach teenagers the tools and facts they need to stay safe if they choose to be sexually active. Although people …show more content…
Growing up, unfortunately some people will become the victim of sexual assault or rape. ”The WAIT curriculum includes a game in which students repeatedly place a transparent piece of tape, symbolizing a woman, on a man's arm to show that after several "uses" (sexual acts or partners) the tape is less clean and perfect. Finally, the teacher is instructed to attach the tape to another male volunteer and ask, ‘If this process gets repeated too many times, do you think it will affect this person's marriage?’” (The Cost of Abstinence-Only Education”) Not only does this make the victims that go through the WAIT program feel used, but also objectified and worthless. The WAIT program is an example of the government-funded programs that are going into our public schools. Elizabeth Smart was raped at age 14. She said when she went through the WAIT program, it made her feel used and worthless. When we teach teenagers that sexuality is unnatural and a sin, it not only ruins the morality of those who have already crossed the line, and those who were pushed over it. Henry A. Waxman released a report showing that 80 percent of the most popular federally funded abstinence-only education programs use curricula that distort information about the effectiveness of contraceptives, misrepresent the risks of abortion, blur religion and science, treat stereotypes about girls and boys as scientific fact, and contain …show more content…
“At 80 percent of the most popular federally funded abstinence-only education programs use curricula that distort information about the effectiveness of contraceptives, misrepresent the risks of abortion, blur religion and science, treat stereotypes about girls and boys as scientific fact, and contain basic scientific errors. (Comprehensive Sex Education Has Been Proven Effective). With abstinence heavy Sex Ed we show that it isn’t even teaching children real information. The entire lessons are ineffective because it isn’t applicable to real life scenarios. We look to Planned Parenthood to tell us that the programs in our schools are telling teenager that sexuality is immoral, and should be saved for marriage only. Planned Parenthood also says that “Only 11 states plus the District of Columbia require sex education that includes information about contraception. Six other states require that if sex education is provided, it must include information about contraception.” The fact that contraception is the largest way of preventing pregnancy and not teaching teens about it does not add up. Teaching teenagers only about sex until marriage will not stop them from having sex. We just need to give them information that is medically accurate that will keep from preventing HIV, AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. Yelling at teenagers will not stop their hormones or

Comprehensive Sex Education Argumentative Essay

...Without a doubt sex education has been a controversial topic in the United States. Our elected officials used to continuously debate comprehensive versus abstinence-only sex education for students K-12. Until very recent sex education was lumped in with abortion, and was a supporting argument for most Republican and Democratic to display their values before elections. However, during President Obama’s first term, he and his administration eliminated all federally funded abstinence-only sex education. (Tucker, 2011, as cited in Crooks & Baur, 2013, p. 371) The President had made this informed decision on data collected, but according to Herbnick, the administration was mostly motivated by the 1.5 billion federal taxpayer dollars spent on abstinence-only...

Teenage Pregnancy

...Parliament, the Education Minister easily pulled statistics revealing that every year in our small population of 1.3 million, over 2,500 teenage girls become pregnant; the majority of these unfortunate girls drop out of school; by age 19, over 1,000 girls in this country already have four children; and 50 per cent of mothers in Trinidad and Tobago are single parents (Maraj 2014). Furthermore, the solutions to decrease the high levels of pregnancy among teenagers still remain a challenge for Trinidad and Tobago. As a result, it has been destroying the lives of young girls for generations and the rate of these incidents has not changed significantly for the past fifteen years. Consequently, pregnant teenagers should be allowed to continue their education because it is their right to receive an education regardless of gender, ethnic, economic, social or religious background. Teenage pregnancy has risen significantly among secondary school girls in Trinidad and Tobago and is spreading rapidly due to, lack of sex education, absence of parental guidance, as well as ill-treatment. Sex Education is the process of acquiring information and knowledge about the human sexual anatomy, sexual reproduction, sexual intercourse, and other aspects of human sexual behaviour. It helps to educate young people about preventing and protecting themselves against abuse, exploitation, unplanned pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases and HIV and AIDS. Therefore, comprehensive sex education should be implemented...

Loyalist Impact on Bahamas

...Informal Argumentative Essay In his article, “Let’s Talk About Sex,” Charles M. Blow argues that teenage pregnancy is a nationwide shame as society refuses to admit and face the facts that teenagers are having sex, he further states that turning a blind eye is not a rational approach and sufficient information and encouragement is needed. There were over 400,000 pregnant American teenagers recorded in 2007. Although the sex rate amongst girls in the United States is not the highest, the teenage birthrate and abortion is still leading in numbers. Blow expresses that many states and parents are backing out of the “abstinence-only education” approach. By moving away from the norm of society, daring actions must be taken to generate a sex education foundation that recognizes the truth and aid to safeguard our children from unsolicited pregnancies or other harmful outcomes. The author concludes that sex education at an early age may be drastic however Americans themselves are unable to approach the sex topic without being awkward, withdrawn or chuckling. As an experiment, Blow implies that parents initiate the sex talk conversation stern with assurance, “I’d prefer you waited to have sex. That said, whenever you choose to do it, make sure you use one of these condoms.” Ultimately, regarding the importance of sex education, I strongly agree with Blow that comprehensive sex education is needed within high schools so that teenagers can avoid the harsh outcomes of sexual activity....

Today, sexual education is obligatory publicly faculties in twenty two of fifty states within the U.S. as a result of very little advancement created within the administration of sexual education schemes, voters of the U.S. have unnoted a deeper underlying issue – which is, at what stage in adolescence is it necessary and most helpful for this difficult, life-long learning method to begin? ...section Vi essay forms Many people use the term “essay” to mean any paper written for a class. In actuality, there are many different types of essays, each of which has a unique purpose, form, and style. We call these different types of essays “modes of discourse,” and they include expository, persuasive, and comparecontrast essays to name just a few. This section of the Guide has a dual purpose. First, various types of essays are described and suggestions are included about how to approach each particular type of writing. Second, the sample essays are good tools for you to see how these different essays look in their final form. These are not templates (no essay can be a carbon copy of another even in form), but they will give you a good idea of what a final piece of writing for each mode of discourse looks like. It would be advantageous to critically analyze the form and content of each sample against the instruction for how to write each type of essay. chapter 21 expository essays Jennifer propp An expository essay explains something using facts rather than opinions. The purpose of this type of essay is to inform an audience about a subject. It is not intended to persuade or present an argument of any kind. Writing this type of essay is a good way to learn about all the different perspectives on a topic. Many students use the expository essay to explore a variety of topics, and do so in a wide range of formats, including “process” and “definition”...

History of Indian Sub Continent

...History of The Indian Subcontinent From The Late Eighteenth Century To The Present Day A fifth of the world's population lives in the Indian subcontinent. While today the region’s place in the global world order is widely recognised, this is in fact only the most recent chapter in a longer history. This paper offers an understanding of the part played by the Indian subcontinent role and its people in the making of the modern world. From the decline of the great empire of the Mughals and the rise of British hegemony, to the rise of nationalism, the coming of independence and partition, the consolidation of new nation states despite regional wars and conflicts, and the emergence of India as the largest democracy in the world, this paper is a comprehensive and analytical survey of the subcontinent's modern history. The dynamic and complex relationships between changing forms of political power and religious identities, economic transformations, and social and cultural change are studied in the period from 1757 to 2007. In normal circumstances students will be given 6 supervisions in groups of 1 or 2. Key themes and brief overview: The paper begins by examining the rise of British power in the context of economic developments indigenous to southern Asia; it analyses the role played by Indian polities and social groups in the expansion of the East India Company's activities. It tracks the emergence of modern intelligentsias and their definitions of what constituted proper religious, public...

...this situation sounds familiar, you may find it reassuring to know that many professionals undergo these same strange compulsions before they begin writing. Jean Kerr, author of Please Don’t Eat the Daisies, admits that she often finds herself in the kitchen reading soup-can labels—or anything—in order to prolong the moments before taking pen in hand. John C. Calhoun, vice president under Andrew Jackson, insisted he had to plow his fields before he could write, and Joseph Conrad, author of Lord Jim and other novels, is said to have cried on occasion from the sheer dread of sitting down to compose his stories. To spare you as much hand-wringing as possible, this chapter presents some practical suggestions on how to begin writing your short essay. Although all writers must find the methods that work best for them, you may find some of the following ideas helpful. But no matter how you actually begin putting words on paper, it is absolutely essential to maintain two basic ideas concerning your writing task. Before you write a single sentence, you should always remind yourself that 1. You have some valuable ideas to tell your reader, and 2. More than anything, you want to communicate those ideas to your reader. These reminders may seem obvious to you, but without a solid commitment to your own opinions as well as to your reader, your prose will be lifeless and boring. If you don’t care about your subject, you can’t very well expect anyone else to. Have confidence that your ideas are...

Yet when we recall the discussions we’ve had with colleagues about instructor’s manuals over the years, two unnerving comments stick with us: “I don’t find them much help”; and (even worse) “I never look at them.” And, if the truth be told, we were often the people making such points! With these statements in mind, we have done some serious soul-searching about the texts that so many teachers—ourselves...

...transactions in commerce, it reflects you or your business. Therefore what is written and how it is expressed is as much a part of business education as accountancy and economics. Definition of a Business Letter The business letter is the basic means of communication between two companies. It is estimated that close to 100 million Business Letters are written every workday. It is a document typically sent externally to those outside a company but is also sent internally to those within a company. Purpose of a Business Letter The first question for any writer should be, "Why am I writing?" "What is my goal or my purpose for writing?" For many writing contexts the long–range purpose of writing is to communicate to a particular audience. In order to communicate successfully to your audience, understanding your purpose for writing will make you a better writer. Purpose is the reason why you are writing. You may write a grocery list in order to remember what you need to buy. You may write a laboratory report in order to carefully describe a chemistry experiment. You may write an argumentative essay in order to persuade someone to change the parking rules on campus. You may write a letter to a friend to express your excitement about her new job. Notice that selecting the form for your writing (list, report, essay, letter) is one of your choices that helps you achieve your purpose. You also have choices about style, organization; kinds of evidence...
