Distracted Driving has been an on-going issue; committed by both veteran and beginner drivers. Multiple states including Florida have begun fining those who are caught texting and driving in order to reduce the numbers of those injured and/or killed due to distracted drivers. Alaska being the highest with a ten-thousand dollar fine; while Florida is one of the lowest with a 35 dollar fine. Many oppose these laws, claiming that if you’re a good enough driver, you can text while driving and not get into an accident. However, this is still not enough proof or a reason to stop fining those who are caught, because over 330,000 people in the U.S. are still dying by text related accidents. Something that has been helping combat this problem however, are Public Service Announcements (PSA’S). Whether it be a story of a …show more content…
Currently, they are positively impacting the lives of many people. Statistics show that 91% of people know that texting while driving is unacceptable (Facts and Statistics, Page 1), due to the influence of PSA’s. The reason PSA’s are successful is by the way they are utilized. A common example of utilizing PSA’S is a popular commercial for cigarette smoking. Which includes multiple facts on how smoking damages your lungs. Anything along those lines is classified as PSA’s and they’re extremely effective in showing how certain actions have devastating consequences. PSA’s usually use pathos, logos, and ethos in order to gain credibility. An example found on psacentra.org, has a man who lives a rather normal life. On his way home from the grocery store, he stops to look at his phone at a red traffic light, he looks to his left to find a lady staring at him with a disapproving expression (Texting and Driving Prevention). This is form of pathos, showing us how texting while driving is frowned upon, and not supported by most. The majority of those who’ve viewed the PSA not only understood the message, but agreed with
