Cutting Gym Class

A huge conflict with schools across America is the fact that schools are sacrificing their gym classes to save money and satisfy federal mandates towards test scores. More than half of the student’s national wide aren’t enrolled in a physical education course. The kid’s aren’t making up for the lost gym time either. More than 60% of students from ages 9-13 don’t do any physical activity out of school. Gym class requirements vary on state. Illinois is the only state to require daily PE for all class levels. Schools/communities across the country are creating programs for kids to start moving even if the state doesn’t mandate it. The reason why kids didn’t exercise in school was because they didn’t like getting dressed, getting sweaty during the day. Some PE teachers are rising to challenge of getting kids more active. Patrice Lovdahl has been teaching PE classes for 17 years stated that, “The key to keeping kids active in encouraging them to get exercise in all aspects of life.” This article is very reliable in many ways. For one, it was published by ABC news. ABC news is a very well known news cast around the world. This article was also published on September 30th, which makes it somewhat recent. I chose this topic to write about because I’m very passionate about being active and exercising. When I become a PE teacher I want to push my students to become and stay active and help them to understand that being active is important for their health no matter how old you are. If you aren’t healthy now it can affect you in the future. I believe that gym class should be required in all gym class levels in all gym class levels across the country.

Article Summary 2 Film Making Accounting

...Kezrin Asfar “The Business of Making” Movies Article Summary The article, “The Business of Making Movies”, written by Mark Young, James Gong and Wima Vanderstede, describes the economical sides of making movies today. It is extremely informative and very interesting especially from the standpoint of a student accountant who loves to enjoy movies as entertainment. It starts off by putting the industry in perspective and showing the reader how complex and important to our economy and culture the industry is. The movie making industry actually has a major influence on the United States Economy, at the very beginning the authors state the motion picture industry in the U.S. is ‘one of the country’s largest exporters and exerts cultural influence worldwide’. The industry is worldwide and very competitive. About 3,000 movies made it to theatres in 2006 in the U.S., but that is less than 1% of the entire amount of movies that made it film festivals alone. Predicting what movies are going to be successful is an extremely thorough process that does not allow many ideas or movies to ever make it. And even if they do make it, sometimes movie goers just don’t appeal to it as much. There seems to be a group of major studios that have control of the market and which movies get to make into theatres. I never knew that DreamWorks, the studio that made movies like Shrek, was actually a subsidiary company from the larger studio of Paramount Pictures. These major studios seem to ultimately...

...WRITING A SUMMARY-RESPONSE ESSAY In academic contexts, you are often asked to write response essays (sometimes called reaction papers) in which you select an aspect of a text that particularly interests you and respond to it in writing. That is, you will be asked to read something (a journal article, a chapter in a book, a technical report) and to write a summary and an analysis of what you read. The purpose of this type of assignment is to find out whether you understood what you read, what your response to the content of the text is, and whether you can express your response clearly. Generally, a response to written material consists of two basic parts: A. a summary of the written material B. an analysis of part of all of the material. Here is the typical format of a response essay:  Introduction (The First Paragraph of your essay) 1. State the author’s name and surname 2. State the name of the article (For example: In “The Dangers of the Television” ) 3. Summarize the article and state the author’s main issues/thesis and key supporting points that the author discusses. Use an opening phrase such as: says, discusses, explains, argues, shows. (For example: In “The Dangers of the Television”, Fidler points out that. . .) 4. State your main idea / thesis in which you show your agreement or disagreement at the end of the introduction paragraph. That is your reaction.  Body (The second paragraph) Your body paragraph or paragraphs should include: 1. major key supporting points...

How to Write a Summary

...SUMMARY A summary is a shortened version of the original. The main purpose of such a simplification is to highlight the major points from the original (much longer) subject, e.g. a text, a film or an event. The target is to help the audience get the gist in a short period of time. A written summary starts with a lead, including title, author, text type and the main idea of the text. It has a clearly arranged structure and is written in a logical, chronological and traceable manner. In contrast to a résumé or a review, a summary contains neither interpretation nor rating. Only the opinion of the original writer is reflected – paraphrased with new words without quotations from the text. How to write a summary • Read the text • Formulate the main statement • Reread the text and underline important ideas and arguments according to the main statement • Introduce the author and title of the work in the opening sentence • Mention the important facts in chronological order Check that your summary reflects the original conclusion | + | - | |* consistency |* too many details | |* laconic brevity |* precise quotations from the text ...
