As shown in the As-Is Process below (Figure 1), individuals with dietary restrictions must go through repetitive and time-consuming activities in order to find foods and beverages that are healthy for them. In the current process, a doctor will notify a person that he or she suffers from dietary restrictions associated with deficiencies, such as diabetes, lactose intolerance, or celiac disease. Then, that doctor will likely provide that person with information about what foods he or she can eat without suffering complications. Calling the doctor over the phone about what to consume is repetitive and takes time out of the physician’s busy schedule. Furthermore, this process is time-consuming for the patient, as he or she will likely spend a significant amount of time waiting for a doctor to respond and provide advice. “Food Friend” is designed to eliminate these issues in the As-Is process by preventing individuals from having to constantly call doctors for advice on what to eat or drink. As shown in the To-Be process (Figure 2), a person will still go through the initial steps of learning about his or her dietary restrictions, but will not encounter the repetitive and complex nature of constantly calling a doctor. At the beginning of the To-Be Process, an individual with dietary restrictions will receive advice from a doctor regarding what to eat or drink. However, as opposed to the As-Is process, when the person has a question about what to consume, he or she will no longer have to immediately attempt to reach the doctor. Instead, the person will download “Food Friend.” After creating an account on the application, the person will enter any significant dietary restrictions or a disorder.
