Amazon, the largest online retail site was started by Jeff Bezos back in 1995 as a place to buy books because of the experience that book lovers get when searching a vast selection of titles to choose from. It currently has 65,600 fulltime and part time employees worldwide. During the first 30 days of business, Amazon.com fulfilled orders for customers in 50 states and 45 countries all from his Seattle garage [Amazon PR)] Amazon provides a personalized shopping experience for every customer through “Search Inside the Book”, convenient checkout using one-click shopping and several other features like wish-lists that help customers search for products and making the best informed decisions. Amazon is protected by a strong brand name, relationship with other business establishments and a strong distribution system. Amazon also operates retail sites and other platforms that enable third party businesses to sell products and services on its sites. Some of these sites include amazon.com, amazon.ca, amazon.cn, amazon it and amazon.es. They also operate other sites websites including a9.com and alexa.com that allow for search and navigation as well as imdb.com, one of the most widely used movie databases.   It’s a hybrid since they sell primarily products and services.
It’s market position is it’s first mover advantage which is advantage gained by the initial ("first-moving") significant occupant of a market segment and Amazon displays this well with it’s robust and sophisticated business plan. Amazon has the unique position of being the largest online bookseller and e bookseller in the United States. Its catalogue has a wide range of products and services for its customers.
