The Enjoyment of Atlanta Traveling is one of my favorite things to do. I have visited many places; however, few are as entertaining as Atlanta, Georgia. In Atlanta, there are many places to go and sights to see. There are incredible buildings and hotels and consistent entertainment throughout the night. For example, Six Flags over Georgia, Stone mountain Park, the Georgia Dome and the Atlanta Braves Stadium, are all in or near the city of Atlanta. The hotels in Atlanta are truly colossal and extremely luxurious. One hotel I found extremely ostentatious was the Westin Peachtree Plaza. The Peachtree is a cylinder shaped, skyscraper hotel with windows going all around the building. Six Flags over Georgia is a theme park containing anything from luscious treats to lively rides. Six Flags accommodates many activities for all ages and it is not uncommon to see famous cartoon characters, such as Bugs Bunny, roaming around the park. Older children and adults who possess strong stomachs may enjoy riding the various roller coasters available, such as, The Ninja. The Ninja goes up and down steep hills and even loops upside down. Six Flags also has water slides and a water park available to keep people cool. My preferred water ride is Thunder River. When I was younger, I was lucky enough to get caught under the waterfall. Six Flags also has games to play and bountiful souvenir shops. As for the sweets I mentioned earlier, the funnel cakes are absolutely delicious. I would highly recommend Six Flags as a place to go when visiting the Atlanta area. Stone Mountain Park is another tourist attraction near Atlanta. The park is located in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Not only is it a fun place to visit, but it is also historical. The mountain is the largest exposed piece of granite in the world. The face of the

Atlas Shrugged Review

...Atlas Shrugged “I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for the sake of mine.” This is the oath one must swear by in order to make it into the exclusive John Galt highly intellectual society. John Galt is a character in the book “Atlas Shrugged” who is the creator and inventor and is a symbol to the power and glory of the human mind. The people who become a part of his society believe that taking care of oneself is more important than being humanitarians and providing support to those who need it. In Galt’s society there are no issues with money. There are no worries about the government taking and spending our hard earned money on war, illegal immigrants, and welfare. If only real life were this simple. However, this is a state of living that is simply not feasible. This never has happened or never will happen in my lifetime. To begin refuting this view of Any Rand, I think it is necessary to analyze the core value that is overwhelmingly displayed in Rand: Selfishness. Rand makes no secret of her selfishness. She thinks the world would be a better place if everyone was selfish. However, she also thinks that any infrastructural and economic progress shouldn’t come out of our taxes, but instead we should rely on the wealthy to make donations in the name of selflessness. That seems very contradictory to what she preaches, as well as very unlikely. Rand supports greed. The greedy won’t have...

Cloud Atlas

...Akwasi Sarpong ENGL 1000 Kristi Ulibarri 4/22/14 Critical Response: Cloud Atlas In this critical response, the part of the book I will be focused on is “The Letters from Zedelghem” (chapters 2 and 10). This section of the book deals with the life of Robert Frobisher and all the events that go on around him. In the first portion of “Letters from Zedelghem”, he writes a series of nine letters to his friend, Sixsmith. Later on in the story we find out that Frobisher is bisexual and he and Sixsmith are distant lovers. A controversial issue I sought out in this section is “Why is Frobisher disowned by his family?” In the beginning of this chapter, it is stated that he dropped out of school. There is no clear reason caused him to make this decision but I believe it was because he wanted to go into a musical career. Frobisher comes from a family of good wealth, fortune, and status. His father is a British nobleman who expects nothing but the best from his son. Pursuing into the musical field does not always guarantee a career will come from it. His father was probably adamant on him finishing college so that he can actually have a justified career. Instead he chose to follow his heart and do otherwise. I believe this is a reason why Frobisher becomes disinherited from his family as well. Another reason he possibly is disowned by his family is that he is bisexual. His relationship with Sixsmith probably made his father uncomfortable and may have made him look down on him. Coming...

Cloud Atlas Draft

...Ouroboros Cloud Atlas “The important part of this responsibility becomes manifest when we as ourselves: out of the system of values giving consistency to culture, which ones shall we choose for making them the sense of our life? The answer is based, of course, on free choice. But this implies a great responsibility, because we have to decide which values we choose for guiding our being: placing us in a ridiculous and ephemeral world, or those which offer depth to our personality and elevate it to the maximum of humanity.” (Source: Culture and Freedom (Romanian Philosophical Studies, III), (3rd ed.), The Relation Between Value and Cultural Development. In Marin Aiftinca, pp. 16-17.) “So, the past erupts into the present not only announcing the other, repressed, side of modernity but also seeding a more unruly disturbance. Modernity does not merely become more complex through the addition of the unacknowledged; it remains irretrievably undone by the questions it can no longer contain. The archaic, presumed to lie back there in the mist of time, appears in the midst of modernity bearing another sense, another direction. An absence, the ‘lost’ world of the past against which the present measures its ‘progress’, unexpectedly returns to haunt modernity. Rational certitude confronts a ghost that bears witness to the return of the apparently timeless economy of the ‘archaic’ and the ‘primitive’: ‘a rumour of words vanish no sooner than they are uttered, and which are therefore...

Difficult Conversations Final Paper Conflict Resolutions

...Final Paper Difficult Conversations By Wayne State University School of Social Work Social Work 6991 Professor Pauline Everette Fall 2012 Conflict is everywhere we go, at home, school, church in the community and especially at work. How we decide to handle the conflict at hand will determine whether we strengthen the relationship or break it up. Each situation can be dealt with in a way that can bring healing instead of animosity and further pain. Most of the time conflict is looked at as a negative experience that most people refuse to be a part of because of their own lack of conflict management skills; but if both parties are willing to sit down and discuss the issue, there is a possibility of a positive resolution. If conflict is dealt with properly and successfully from the beginning then there will be a greater understanding from each individual involved and an increased likelihood of unity as well as an improved relationship. In this paper I will discuss difficult conversations I had with my son, John, (name change for confidentiality), when he was 16 years old, who is now 26. As a teenager I expect him to go through teenage issues, I expect conflict which is a natural part our interactions, and disagreements, but as a parent I must effectively address these conflicts/disagreements to improve our relationship and to promote growth. After experiencing these issues with John I have a to react based on the different individual personalities...

...U5014042 ENGN2226 Portfolio Analysis of the Impact of Replacing Out-dated GPS Devices in a Taxi Fleet Name: Samuel Stefopoulos Student ID: u5014042 Course name: Engineering Systems Analysis Course code: ENGN2226 Lecturer: Chris Browne Assessment piece: Individual Portfolio Date submitted: 25th October 2013 U5014042 ENGN2226 Portfolio Summary GPS devices have become increasingly common due to the advancements of electronics. They can now be hand-held and are highly prominent on roads. This is particularly noticeable in taxis, as most cabs are now fitted with some form of GPS device and many fleets have enforced mandatory GPS policies. This document analyses the impact and worth of refitting a fleet of taxis the size of Canberra Cabs with new portable GPS devices. A series of systems analysis techniques were applied in the analysis of the devices in order to reduce the complexity of the components. A major period of device improvement was identified as the time between 2007 and 2009 based on a diffusion of innovations analysis. The analysis of two particular devices, the TomTom XL 310 (2007) and the Garmin Nuvi 1350 (2009), were used as a comparative measure of the improvements made in the time period. The devices chosen for analysis were ergonomically assessed in terms of their user interface. The major factors improved were found to be the prediction of text and consistency with other devices users may be familiar with. An experiment was then designed and performed to...

Comparing Roark And Toohey's The Fountainhead

... Howard Roark and Ellsworth Toohey are declared in The Fountainhead where they both exclaim prime illustrations of a realistic perspective. Specifically, Roark is the hidden side of society that is obsolete, and hard to understand that is actually among realization. Evidently, Roark is an exemplar of the "individual" that is truly successful for his talents, reason, drive, and inner beliefs: " they were sketches of buildings such as had never stood on the face of the earth."-(7). Roark absorbs his art impression into buildings and architecture. His artistic view is quite unorthodox that is questioned. Society's view on abstract structure is irrelevant to Roark's behavior. He avoids any temptation of conformity to commit to his personal architectural art; to rid himself of the traditional disposition. His work was disregarded from what society accepted from its decision. The affair of conformity is discouraged in the novel, and continues in a current humanity. Modernism was pertinent to Roark's self consciousness. Subsequently, Individuals that reach a level of conformity will reach an uncertain channel, where they will fade with the rest of the same parallels. The attitude and angles of Howard Roark are solely circulated around the novel’s theme: the primacy of the individual and positioning of rational thought. The concern permits the ideas that individuals will reshape the course of history, not the collected reforms. The lesson will disregard such practices such as: collectivism...

Lots of food has been consumed, exhausted secretaries and junior project managers of the two teams are praying for the meeting to end. The two senior execs have not joined efforts for the new product idea that initially seemed so exciting in previous communications they had via email. On the other hand, they do not wish to leave the meeting without making a decision. Time passes, and at one point, a new junior staffer tosses out an idea: Why not make a European project out of it? The idea was accepted with relief by all—especially the two RTD managers—and after almost a year, a two-and-a-halfyear-long project was launched, with the goal of potential commercial marketability. Who Is John Galt

...Who Is John Galt So who is John Galt and what does he represent? Is he the man who begged on the streets of New York or is he some cold, calculating, cut-throat railroad owner? Is he a saint or is he an incarnation of the devil himself? Or is he none of these people! Ayn Rand left a lot of questions unanswered in her literary epic “Atlas Shrugged”. Some readers would like to find the answer on their own. They are left with a nagging feeling long after they have turned the last page and closed the book with a sigh of either relief (at least the speech is over) or of nostalgia (oh, why did it have to end so soon). I happened to fall in the latter category. John Galt means different things to different people. To me he is a pillar of strength, a beacon in a storm, a guiding life-force. One of my favourite quotes from the infamously long John Galt speech is “I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.” At first glance, it might look like it promotes selfish conduct or is even borderline narcissistic. But the beauty of the thought lies in the fact that it embodies the very essence of ‘self’, of existence for the sake of fulfilling ‘your’ purpose. It speaks of giving it your all, of going that extra mile, not because you want to impress or beat somebody, but because you are meant to do it for your ‘own’ sake alone and as if that is your only purpose in life. Another one of Galt’s powerful quotes...

SpaceX Business Model 7. SpaceX Business Level Strategy 8. Conclusions I. Background SpaceX or Space Exploration Technologies Corporation is a space transport services company headquartered in Hawthorne, California. It was founded in 2002 by former PayPal entrepreneur and Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk. SpaceX was founded with the goal of reducing space transportation costs and enabling the colonization of Mars. It has developed the Falcon 1 and Falcon 9 launch vehicles, both of which were designed from conception to eventually become reusable. SpaceX also developed the Dragon spacecraft, which are flown into orbit by the Falcon 9 launch vehicle, initially transporting cargo and later planned to carry humans to the International Space Station and other destinations.[1] By 2012, SpaceX had over 40 launches on its manifest representing about $4 billion in contract revenue—with many of those contracts already making progress payments to SpaceX—with both commercial and government (NASA/DOD) customers. As of December 2013, SpaceX has a total of 50 future launches under contract, two-thirds of them are for commercial customers.  SpaceX's low launch prices, especially for communication satellites flying to geostationary orbit, have resulted in market pressure on...
