After its fist 20 years in existing as a record label it was also recognized as one of the most important labels for independent African-American artist. In 1967 the Atlantic Music label expanded into rock and pop music by becoming a subsidiary owner of Warner bros-Seven Arts now known as the Warner Bros Music Group.
This Record Label company was a partnership between Ahmet Ertegun And Herb Abramson. I agree with this type of ownership choice because when you go into the music industry its also good to have some that you trust to check over your decisions and make sure that you might not be making a mistake.
Ahmet Ertegun was born in 1923 in Turkey and came into the U.S. at the age of 11. He went to college in St. Johs University to study philosophy, afterwards he the work in Georgetown in Washington D.C. Herb Amramson is the Co-founder to Atlantic Records and was born in 1917. He went to High school in Brooklyn. In 1944 Herb became a part time record producer for National Records. At this same time Herb was attending New York University to become a Dentist. Herb actually started his own record label before he started Atlantic, called Jublie Records. He had a partner Named Jerry Blaine, but shortly after he become uninterested in what the Record label was becoming and asked Jerry to buy his way out of his share of the company.
The idea of the record company was first sparked by Ahmet and he knew that if he was going to be able to pull this off he would need a partner and thought of Herb Abramson, because he knew of his knowledge of the music business and that he would be the best person to make a partnership with that would be very beneficial to both of them. Short Story

...Regret This is the story of how my life ended. No it wasn’t because of some illness, or suicide, but it was because of someone. I kept warning everyone about the things that were happening to me and no one lessened. No one. They all said: “you are being paranoid”, or “ Why on Earth would anyone want to chase you?” So I gave up on trying to prove it to them. If only I didn’t give up; then maybe, maybe I would still be alive and to be able to blow my 18th birthday cake. All those wonderful plans for my future, all those years of taking hard classes during High School; they were all for nothing. All those money that my parents spent on me to become somebody all went for nothing. This is all I can think about. I am Sorry for myself. Sorry for my self that I couldn’t live the life that I always wanted. The life my parents wanted for me, and this is how it goes… “MOOOOM! CAN I GO TO THE MALL WITH LUCY?” I asked hoping she would let me go. “ But you guys hanged out recently Diana” Replied my mom. “ Mom two weeks ago is not recent,” I said “ She is my best friend you know…” “ If I say yes will you promise to come back home before 7? We have that dinner we need to go to.” She said. “Yes! Thank you! Thank you! I’ll be back before you know it.” I said. I can’t believe she said yes this fast. It usually takes me forever to convince her to let me go somewhere, and sometimes I need to start the water works so that she will feel sorry for me and let me go. The weather outside is amazing...

Lake Tana Seismic

...basin. The bedrock was dated to 410 k yr BP ± 22 k yr BP, and this indicates that there is a possible 410 k yr record of lake level fluctuations within the Lake Tana sediment. The Seistec boomer data allowed the identification of many sub-bottom features form 98 k yr BP to present day. The main features are the five P layers which indicate that since 98 k yr BP there have been five major lowstands in Lake Tana. The features that appear between these P layers include less intense desiccation layers, downcutting events, large sand ripples and prograding wedges. These findings are in agreement with those of Bates et al. (2007) and Lamb Bates et al. (2007) who have also used other seismic records to identify lake level fluctuations in Lake Tana. The lake level fluctuations identified in the seismic records from Lake Tana correlate well with many of the lake level fluctuations of other large African lakes, such as Lake Victoria (Johnson et al, 1996), Lake Challa (Moernaut et al., 2010) and Lakes Tanganyika and Malawi (Scholz and Rosendahl, 1988). From 98 k yr BP to 91 k yr BP there are only a few other records of the fluctuations that are observed in Lake Tana. Between 91 k yr BP and 72 k yr BP there is no evidence of any lake level fluctuations, but from 72 k yr BP to present there are numerous other lake level records that recognise the lake lowstands observed in Lake Tana. The lowstands in Lake Bosumtwi are isolated as being...

Amelia Earhart Research Paper

...She was constantly attempting to break new records as early as 1922, with her newly acclaimed aviation skills (Cochrane 1). Once she warmed up to the idea of flying, she quickly took to the idea of being in the air (Cochrane 1). Everyone knew of who would soon be one of the most famous female aviators to date. There were countless records broken by Earhart (“Amelia Earhart” 1). In 1932, she was the first woman to fly nonstop, across the United States of America (Bartunek 1). Little did anyone know that this was only the beginning of Earhart’s career in...

...The Bermuda Triangle The Bermuda Triangle is believed to be the never ending black hole in the Atlantic Ocean. There have been numerous missing persons cases, and bizarre weather conditions that have affected travel in the Atlantic Ocean. Along with, several of unsolved mysteries could be solved if there was an answer to where ships and people have disappeared as well. If it was studied more and if there was a better understanding of the vast fields of methane hydrates, storms, and waterspouts (Barton, line21). While some scientists believe that there is no answer to how the Bermuda Triangle works, it is conceived that there should be more research done to solve the ongoing mystery of the "black hole". The Bermuda Triangle is a triangle-shaped area that covers about 1,140,000 sq. km. between Bermuda, the coast of southern Florida, and Puerto Rico. The sinister reputation of the Bermuda Triangle may be traceable to reports beginning in the late fifteenth-century by navigator, Christopher Columbus concerning the Sargasso Sea (Myth or Reality). The Sargasso Sea is an oval shaped patch of the North Atlantic Ocean several hundred miles across, stretching well into the Bermuda Triangle. In the Sargasso Sea, the water is normally calm, with little wind and current (Oxdale). The Sargasso Sea, being very calm, is ironic because of the numerous storms that the Bermuda Triangle encounters. The Caribbean islands are within the Triangle's area as well, making...

The Panama Canal - from Yesterday to Tomorrow

...Yesterday to Tomorrow By Clarence Moore North Lake College Introduction to Business Logistics LGMT-1319-73471 Professor Jeffrey Wendt April 2013 When the first European, Rodrigo de Bastidas, reached Panama in 1501, he could hardly envision the magnitude of the Isthmus’ future. As more Spanish caravels arrived, the search for gold was intensified. A shortened route from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean was not found by Magellan, who conceived of going around Cape Horn or passing through the Straits that were to bear his name. When sea routes were found to be to long the Spaniards turned to overland crossings, and when Vasco Nunez de Balboa first crossed the Isthmus of Panama in 1513, he initiated a ceaseless march of traffic. Panamanians are still proud of the curious Balboa who discovered the Pacific, surveyed the Panama route across the Central America Isthmus and found that there existed a difference in the levels of the respective oceans. The Conquistador Herman Cortes was certain that no natural waterway existed between the Atlantic and the Pacific, and he expressed a desire to construct a sea passageway through Panama, Darien, Nicaragua, or Tehmantepec. The dreams of the foresighted Cortes went for naught as it was almost three centuries before serious consideration was again given to the construction of an interocean waterway (Liss). From the beginning of the sixteenth century until the beginning of the nineteenth century while...

Hurricane Season Research Paper

...The Atlantic hurricane season officially began on June 1, 2011.[20] It was an above average season in which twenty tropical cyclones formed. Nineteen of the twenty depressions attained tropical storm status, tied with 1887, 1995, 2010, and later the 2012 season for the third highest number of named storms since record-keeping began in 1851. Seven of these tropical storms became hurricanes, while four of those hurricanes further intensified into major hurricanes.[21] The season was more active than usual due to lower than average wind shear, warmer than average sea surface temperatures, and the presence of a La Niña.[22] Collectively, the tropical cyclones of this season resulted in nearly $18.5 billion in damage and there were 114 deaths; a majority of it was caused by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee.[23] The...

Famine Ships

...across the Atlantic Ocean while encountering storms, icebergs, disease, and starvation. The trips were often long and horrifying for the passengers, but they were forced to make the journey due to worsening conditions in Ireland at the time. As the potato crop continued to fail, more and more Irish left their homeland for America and Canada on these famine ships. In search of a better existence, many Irish risked their lives by taking the 3,000-mile voyage on ships that weren’t fit for service. Many of them died from sickness, starvation or accidents while in route, yet they kept coming, for their fate at home was even worse. Between 1846 and 1851 emigration from Ireland to America and Canada increased drastically due to the deteriorating famine conditions in Ireland. When the potato crop failed in 1846, “more than 100,000 had crossed the Atlantic by year’s end” (Laxton 13). This mass evacuation of people required more ships than were available, so many ships were refitted in order to carry passengers one way and then freight the other. The living quarters beneath the ships were over crowded and unsanitary. Wooden boards were thrown together in the ship’s hold as makeshift bunks, and each passenger had a very small space to live during the trip. The crews were often abusive and the food and water rations the passengers were promised frequently never materialized, so several starved on the voyage. The navigational systems on the ships were limited to “Atlantic seas charts...

Air Masses

...positioning of the UK in relation to the Earth in terms of the fact that it is situated just off the edge of continental Europe and yet is surrounded by sea. These locational characteristics mean that the UK is subject to weather determined by five major air masses travelling from all different directions over both the sea, and the land. Air masses are bodies of air which pick up the characteristics of the area that they have come from in terms of the temperature, moisture content and pressure. The air masses which play the biggest role in determining the weather in the UK are the Polar and Tropical maritime air masses. These come to the UK from over the Atlantic Ocean and are thought to influence up to 80% of the weather that we receive. The first of these is the Tropical continental air mass which travels over the Atlantic Ocean from the south west of the UK. During the winter, when we are affected by this particular air mass, we can expect conditions to be relatively mild and often rainy. This is due to the fact that this maritime air mass travels to the UK over sea therefore gradually warming and picking up moisture on its way. Stratus clouds are often found therefore indicating reduced visibility and sometimes fog around coastal areas. Throughout the summer however, temperatures are warmer and winds are moderate. Despite the fact that the lower layers of the mass tend to be stable as a result of its passage over cooler waters, when it’s forced to rise over hills,...

Charles Lindbergh Amelia's Invention

...flying machine for the first time at the Iowa State Fair in 1908. The biplane she saw had double wings. It was made of wire, wood, and oiled canvas. It resembled to a large box kite. Soon, Amelia took her first airplane ride with a famous record-setting pilot, Frank Hawks. On her 24th birthday, July 24, 1922, her mother and sister helped her buy Kinner Canary, a bright yellow biplane. Amelia watched from the sidelines as famous aviators took the challenge of long-distance flights. In 1927, Charles Lindbergh became the first person to fly alone across the Atlantic. Then, inspired by Charles Lindbergh Amelia became the first women to fly across the Atlantic. Then after other flights, Amelia decided to fly around the world. Amelia spent many months planning her adventure. This flight was 27,000 miles. She had to be very careful. Her plan was to begin by leaving Oakland and fly to Honolulu. From Honolulu, Amelia would fly to Howland Island. Howland Island was in the central Pacific, making it hard to find without professional equipment. From Howland Island, they would fly to Port Darwin. Port Darwin is in northern Australia. Then they would go to Africa by way of Saudi Arabia. Then her and her navigator would cross the south Atlantic to Brazil and fly...

The History of the Music Business: Literature Review of Readings

...music history. From as early as the 1940s to the 21st century, artists such as Nirvana and managers such as Peter Grant have made major decisions that would shape their careers and subsequently the future of the music business (Goldberg, 2008; Welch, 2003). In this literature review, the events and decisions that helped shaped the future will be examined and explored in the text to understand their impact on the music business. Ahmet was one of the influential people in the early stages of the music industry (Greenfield, 2011). When he met all the guys with independent record companies and decided they were ‘a bunch of third-rate crooks’, he like Rothchild jumped on the opportunity to get into the record business and eventually finding Atlantic records with Herb (Greenfield, 2011: 40; Goodman, 1997). But not all independent record labels were third rate crooks, Morris Levy, started from an independent record company, Roulette and was an important figure in the early stages of the music business (Dannen, 1990). He was described as the octopus of the music industry with his influences and connections, especially with the mafia who were heavily influential in many parts of the States. This would set the precedent for the future rap industry in which the themes of alcohol, stripper, violence and drugs are common and run by gangsters. Also part of Levy’s powers also came from his understanding of copyrights of tracks and the fundamental roles as the core business assets in which Levy...
