The similarities and differences between the Australian and Chinese Economies provide an interesting comparison of economic systems. China is one of australis closest trade neighbours and is of cultural, political and economic strategic importance to Australia. The Chinese
Economy is considered a planned/command economy, where the government makes the decisions about production and investment. In comparison, the term to describe the Australian economy is a semi-planned/mixed market economy, where the private sector dictates most of the economy, with some government inva) making it the second largest economy in the world behind the United Stated in terms of economic size. The level of GDP/ capita in Australia in 2015 was $51,642 U.S dollars (listed by Knoema), which is contrasted with China’s level of G, ranking
2nd in the world with China ranking 101st in the world. Another component which is in contrast between the Australian and Chinese economy is Standard of Living, which is reliant on factors such as Human Development Index (HDI) , the popsicle index, happiness index, education index and level of healthcare. Human Development Index takes into consideration four factors: life expectancy at birth, gross national income per capita, mean years of schooling and expected years of schooling; to measure and rank countries’ level of social and economical development.
While China has much more GDP than Australia, Australia has a higher Human Development
Index (HDI) of 0.93, ranking 2nd, as opposed to China’s ranking at 90th, with a HDI of 0.73 (listed by knoema 2014). These statistics are reflective of a highly developed country (Australia) and a medium developed country (Chin

Annual Report Analysis

...CONTE N T S CHAI R M A N ’ S LETTE R DEAR SH AREH OL DERS FY2012 has been a good year for your Company. The key financial results were: ¥ Consolidated revenues increased by 30% to Rs. 96.7 billion in FY2012. ¥ Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA)1 rose by 55% to Rs. 25.4 billion. ¥ Profit after Tax (PAT)2 grew by 45% to Rs. 15.3 billion. ¥ Diluted Earnings per Share (EPS) increased from Rs. 64.9 in FY2011 to Rs. 83.8 in FY2012. I am particularly delighted by four developments. First, your Company succeeded in yet another blockbuster generic launch in the USA under 180days marketing exclusivity. Dr. Reddy’s launched olanzapine 20 mg tablets, the generic version of the brand Zyprexa®. Olanzapine is used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. This product has added around USD 100 million to your Company’s revenues for FY2012. Second, the biosimilars business continues along its impressive growth path. In my letter to you last year, I had discussed the critical importance of developing biosimilars in the years to come. I am happy to note that your Company’s global biosimilars business grew by 45% over last year and recorded sales of USD 26 million. Today, the biosimilars portfolio of Dr. Reddy’s constitutes (i) filgrastim, (ii) peg-filgrastim, (iii) rituximab and (iv) darbepoetin alfa, which have commercial presence in 13 countries among emerging markets. These are helping to treat patients suffering from cancer — and at prices that...

Financial Statement Analysis

...solution SOLUTIONS TO EXERCISES AND CASES For FINANCIAL STATEMENT ANALYSIS AND SECURITY VALUATION Stephen H. Penman Fifth Edition CHAPTER ONE Introduction to Investing and Valuation Concept Questions C1.1. Fundamental risk arises from the inherent risk in the business – from sales revenue falling or expenses rising unexpectedly, for example. Price risk is the risk of prices deviating from fundamental value. Prices are subject to fundamental risk, but can move away from fundamental value, irrespective of outcomes in the fundamentals. When an investor buys a stock, she takes on fundamental risk – the stock price could drop because the firm’s operations don’t meet expectations – but she also runs the (price) risk of buying a stock that is overpriced or selling a stock that is underpriced. Chapter 19 elaborates and Figure 19.5 (in Chapter 19) gives a display. C1.2. A beta technology measures the risk of an investment and the required return that the risk requires. The capital asset pricing model (CAPM) is a beta technology; is measures risk (beta) and the required return for the beta. An alpha technology involves techniques that identify mispriced stocks than can earn a return in excess of the required return (an alpha return). See Box 1.1. The appendix to Chapter 3 elaborates on beta technologies. C1.3. This statement is based on a statistical average from the historical data: The return on stocks...

To increase student engagement with the text, Yule has also included more than fifty new tasks, including thirty involving data analysis, enabling students to apply what they have learned. The online study guide offers students further resources when working on the tasks, while encouraging lively and proactive learning. This is the most fundamental and easy-to-use introduction to the study of language. George Yule has taught Linguistics at the Universities of Edinburgh, Hawai’i, Louisiana State and Minnesota. He is the author of a number of books, including Discourse Analysis (with Gillian Brown, 1983) and Pragmatics (1996). “A genuinely introductory linguistics text, well suited for undergraduates who have little prior experience thinking descriptively about language.
